Shirley Ann Brown, 71 of Cowden, IL, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2001 in the Shelbyville Manor.
Mrs. Brown was born July 28, 1930 in Cuba, IL the daughter of Harry and Lorraine Conrad Hagaman.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Cowden, IL. Formerly, she was employed by Tryco Manufacturing and Standolind Credit Union.
She married Herman Lyle "Babe" Brown June 3, 1950 in Shelbyville and he passed away November 15, 1988.
Surviving are sons Douglas A. Brown and wife Maribeth of Cowden, IL and Terry Brown and wife Mickey of Decatur, IL; grandchildren, Monica Courtright and husband Troy, Megan Brown and Tyler Brown; great grandchildren, Zachary Courtright, Trenton Courtright and Eli Courtright; sisters, Donna Lyngstad of Bakersfield, Calif., Joyce Wall of Cowden, Phyllis Wheeler of Normal, IL, Peggy Utsinger of Canton, IL, and Sandra Bowen of Baring, MO; brothers, Harry Steck of Canton, IL and Larry Steck of Frankfort, IL; sister in law, Helen Steck, Lewistown, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Hazel, brother Gary and brother in law Junior Wall.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2001 in the Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Cowden. Rev. Darrell Hinkle will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden. Memorials can be made to the Cowden First Responders.
Enrique "Henry" Castro

Enrique "Henry" Castro, 89, of Neoga died at 1:05 AM on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 in the Heartland Christian Village in Neoga.
Services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday December 6 at the St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Neoga with Father Robert DeGrand and Sr. Pat Thies officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday with the Rosary at 7:00 in the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home in Neoga.
Mr. Castro was born on June 20, 1912 in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, the son of Bibiano and Lucia (Marquez) Castro.
He married Isabel Velazquez on April 11, 1942 in New York City, she passed away on November 27, 1997.
He is survived by his son Henry Castro and wife Jo Ann of Andover, New Jersey; daughters Elizabeth Dreslik and husband Michael of Neoga; Martha Diamond and husband Robert of Torrington Conn.; Digna M. Castro of Las Piedras, Puerto Rico; his brothers Francisco Castro of Las Piedras Puerto Rico; Jesus Castro of Cerritos, California; Bibiano Castro of Las Piedras, Puerto Rico and his sister Carmen Castro of Las Piedras, Puerto Rico.
His six grandchildren, Christopher Castro, Michael Dreslik, Jason Dreslik, Elisa Diamond, Kristina Diamond and Julie Diamond as well as several great grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and three sisters.
Mr. Castro was a retired barber. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a member of the St. Mary of The Assumption Church in Neoga.

Audrey Roessler, 66, of Shelbyville, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2001 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
Funeral sevices will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. John P. Schmeling officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Shelbyville.
Mrs. Roessler was born on April 13, 1935 in Morrisonville, the daughter of Clarence L. and Lola M. Hagan Gatton. She worked at Prosser's Gravel Pit in Shelbyville for many years before retiring. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Shelbyville. She married Clyde Robert Fleming on Feb. 28, 1953 in Shelbyville. He died on October 25, 1975. She married Jack E. Roessler on April 9, 1978.
Surviving are her husband, Jack; sons, Robert Fleming and friend Michelle Graham of Shelbyville, Rick Roessler and wife Kathy of Shelbyville and John Roessler and wife Laura of Grand Ledge, MI; daughters, Brenda Martin and husband Doug of Shelbyville, Lorrie Fleming of Evansville, IN, Janet Voyles of Windsor and Connie Vicich and husband Jeff of Pana; brother, Clarence Gatton and wife Karen of Springfield; sisters, Shirley Griffith, Ruth Gebhardt and husband Robert and Marie Wood and husband Gene all of Springfield and Lois Nass and husband Ken of Collerville, TN; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and lots of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and first husband, Robert Fleming.
Kenneth E. Rueff
Shelbyville
Kenneth Edward Rueff, 87, of Shelbyville, died at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2001 in Shelbyville Manor.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Tom Compton and Rev. Ron Tucker officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Gideons International or Donor's Choice.
Mr. Rueff was born on January 30, 1914 in Vandalia, the son of Ezra and Geneva Causey Rueff. He graduated from Tower Hill High School in the Class of 1931. He was retired from the U.S. Soil and Water Conservation Services in Shelbyville and was a seed corn dealer for Funks for 40 years. He was affiliated with the Free Methodist Church of Shelbyville, a 4-H leader for many years and an avid gardener. He married Mildred Furr on June 26, 1937 and she died on March 20, 1978. He then married Hazel Eversole McDonald on June 26, 1979.
Surviving are his wife Hazel; sons, Leroy Rueff and wife Susie of Bradley and Jim McDonald and wife Jackie of Shelbyville; daughters, Linda Glick and husband Lynn of Shelbyville, Kathy Reeves and husband Roger of Hillsboro and Ginny Kater and husband David of Quincy; brothers, Frank Rueff and wife Brenda and Bob Rueff and wife Gladys all of Crystal Lake and Paul Rueff and wife Margie of Marengo; sisters, Mary O'Kelley of Cowden and Reba Price of Kenosha, WI; sister in law, Doris Rueff of Delavan, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Lance and Lane Glick, Andy Rueff, Sarah Wiedner, Jill Winslow and Jeff McDonald; and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John Rueff.
Mildred M. Miles
Pana
Mildred M. Miles, 86, of Pana died on Tuesday December 4, 2001 at 3:40 a.m. in Heritage Manor of Pana.
She was born on December 13, 1914 in Christian County in rural Pana to Otto and Effie Driskel Wienke.
She was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ, a Member of the Order Eastern Star Arcana Chapter; St. John's Women's Guild. She was a homemaker who lived her entire life in Pana.
Mrs. Miles married J. Robert Miles on July 22, 1937, he preceded her in death on September 16, 1986.
She is survived by her daughter Marcia Weiland and husband Don of Kirkwood, MO, son Rodney Miles and wife Shirley of Pana.
Eight grandchildren; Keith Miles, Jeff Miles, Tom Miles, Kathy Smart, Sharon Brown, Kevin Weiland, Brian Weiland and Kristen Weiland also survive.
Four great grandchildren, Patricia Miles, Melinda Holmes, Morgan Brown and Kyle Smart, and two sisters, Evelyn Cloninger and Ethel Halleman both of Pana survive.
She was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Robert Miles on February 23, 1994; grandson, David Miles; sisters Marian Nantkes and LaVonne Wieneke.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the McCracken Dean Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 8, 2001 in McCracken Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 with Reverend Jeffrey T. Moore officiating.
Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Nokomis.
Memorials may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ or American Heart Association.

Sheila Joyce Phelps Vail, 53, of Shelbyville died at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2001.

Sheila was born on April 13, 1948 in Shelbyville, the daughter of Cecil H. and Pauline Cutler Phelps. She was a graduate of Shelbyville High School Class of 1966.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth Vail of Shelbyville; mother Pauline Phelps of Shelbyville; brother Phillip Phelps and wife Kathy of Valler; sister Carol Phelps of Shelbyville; half brother, Harold Phelps of Scottsdale, AZ; and half sister, Deloris Sefton of Mesa, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Phelps; and son, Kevin L. Vail.

Benjamin Franklin Dilley, 75, of Shelbyville died at 4:51 a.m. on Wednesday December 5, 2001 at the Pana Community Hospital.
He was born on December 8, 1925 in Christian County, the son of John and Estella Sanford Dilley and was an avid fisherman.
Surviving are brother, Dale of Shelbyville, Gene of Henton, John of Billings, MT, George and Woodrow both of Olney and Jesse of Pana; sisters Shirley Jones and Alverta Brown both of Pana and Letha Thomas of Lacey Springs, AL; 21 nephews and 15 nieces and special friend Gail Plunkett of Findlay.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Henton Cemetery with Rev. Ronald Brown officiating.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. at the Lockart & Sons Funeral Home, Shelbyville.
