Gwendolyn Ruth Boggs, 77, of Shelbyville, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, FL. died at 3:40 a.m. Saturday January 12, 2002 in the Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville. She was born April 8, 1924 in Shelbyville, the daughter of Orlia and Bertha Bixler Hill.
She returned to Shelbyville in 1985 after working 30 years as Secretary of the Building and Zone Department for the City of Fort Lauderdale. She was formerly a switchboard operator for the Decatur Memorial Hospital and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Shelbyville. She married George Boggs and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Steele and husband, Mark of Shelbyville; granddaughter, Lori Price and husband Jeff of Shelbyville, precious great-granddaughter, Rachel Dianne and dear friends Charles, Betty and Bess.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Lockart & Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Pastor Tom Suey officiating.
Visitation will be one hour before servicetime on Wednesday.
Burial in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Eva F. Bennett, 91, of Topeka, Kansas, died on Thursday, January 10, 2002 in her residence.
She was born February 12, 1910 in Shelbyville, the daughter of David Oscar and Stella Ruff Yost.
Mrs. Bennett was raised in Emporia. She attended Empora State Teachers College, majoring in art. She worked for Creative Educational Society and traveled the midwest. She owned and operated a beauty salon in Topeka for several years. She was active in Fairlawn Plaza Merchants Association; Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce; YWCA; Pi Delta Theta Sorority; Golden City Forum; Everywoman's Resource Center; Topeka Community Foundation; Peppertree Homeowners Association Board; Capper Foundation; Topeka Zoo and was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist.
She married R. J. McOwen on September 26, 1938. He died on April 10, 1960. She married Charles R. Bennett on March 10, 1962. He died on August 27, 1985.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Roberta McOwen, died August 30, 1958.
She is survived by her sister Myrel Carr of Anthony, KS; sister; Gladys Roberts of Lawrence, KS; sister Nita Hinkle, Vista, CA; Edna Louise McOwen-Witz, Hilton Head, SC; LaVera Bennett-Ratcliff, Eureka Springs, AR and several nieces and nephews.
A cremation is planned. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday February 17 at the Bradbury-Thompson Center, Washburn University, Topeka.

Rosalie Grafton Long
Shelbyville
Rosalie Grafton Long, 95, of Shelbyville, formerly of Kelly, Louisiana, died peacefully at home, at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2002.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2002 in the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville. A time for fellowship and food will follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville is in charge of the arrangements.
Interment will be at a later date in Adams Cemetery in Kelly, Louisiana, beside her husband, Edgar and grandson Scott. Memorials may be given to Habitat for Humanity in Shelby County, PO Box 148, Shelbyville, IL 62565 or Lincolnland Hospice, 700 W. Lincoln Ave., Suite 800, Charleston, IL 61920.
Mrs. Long was born on September 15, 1906 in Bernice, Louisiana, the daughter of Benjamin Whitney and Martha Rebecca Gray Grafton. She was the third of their ten children and she outlived all except one sister. She married Edgar Thompson Long on December 19, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She was a founding member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Shelbyville, a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #69 of Shelbyville and Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter in Olla, Louisiana.
She was an avid crossword puzzle worker, an accomplished quilt maker and an excellent cook, especially pies and cakes. During her 95th year, she made a quilt and donated it to be used for fundraising for Habitat for Humanity in Shelby County, where her son-in-law, Winston Campbell is president.
Surviving are her children, David Grafton Long of Navasota, Texas and Ann Long Campbell and her husband Winston of Shelbyville; four grandchildren, Jan Campbell Jesse and her husband Wyatt, and their children, Waylon, Clayton and Luke of Shelbyville; Teresa Campbell Holland and their children, Nikki and Christian of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Charlotte Long Hughes and her husband Douglas and their daughter, Paige of Dallas, Texas; and Priscilla Long Hooper and her husband Robert, and their children, Robby, Henry and Madison of Medfield, Massachusetts; and one sister, Dorothy Grafton Jarmon of Dubach, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; her only grandson, Scott Michael Campbell; six brothers and two sisters.
Ethelyn Eugenia White

Ethelyn Eugenia White, 89, of Shumway died at 10:06 a.m. Saturday January 12, 2002 in Sunbridge of Effingham.
She was born on August 20, 1912 in Gary, IN the daughter of Lawrence and Esther Berquist Malo.
She married Arthur Charles White on June 17, 1931 in Chicago and he preceded her in death on August 31, 1998.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in New Port Richey, FL and the Order of the Eastern Star in Downers Grove. She was a homemaker after working as head cashier for Giesche Shoe Store in Downers Grove.
Surviving are one daughter Judyth Hedge and husband James of Shumway; grandchildren Lee Hedge and wife Rita of North Ogden, UT, Stacy Robinson and husband Chris of Virginia Beach, VA and Jeff Hedge and wife Shonda of Indianapolis, IN ; great-grandchildren Megan and Samuel Hedge and Taeghen and Colton Robinson; sister Eleanor Hawkins of Carmel, IN.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Lockart & Sons Funeral Home in Beecher City with Rev. Mario Mayer officiating.
Visitation will be one hour before servicetime.
Burial will be in North Meadowlawn Cemetery in New Port Richey, FL on Thursday.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, Beecher City or the Lake Bluff Children's Home in Lake Geneva.
William E. (Bill) Nichols
Mode
William E. (Bill) Nichols, 82, of Mode, IL passed away at 7:41 Monday, January 7, 2002 in St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, in Effingham.
Mr. Nichols was born March 8, 1919 at Mode, IL the son of Walter Jefferson and Martha Naomi Walls Nichols.
He was a member of the Roy Vanderpool VFW Post #4829 of Shelbyville, the American Legion Post #611 of Stewardson, IL, the Disabled American Veterans, the Shelby County Farm Bureau and the Labor Local #59 of Decatur for 35 years. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Beecher City and attended the First Christian Church of Cowden. He worked construction and was a life long hog farmer.
He married Lillian Walters, April 24, 1954 and she survives. Also surviving are sons Andy Nichols and wife Carol and Mike Nichols and wife Madonna both of Mode and Danny Nichols and wife Ruthann of Stewardson; daughter Frances Nichols of Mode; sisters Vesta Buckley, Florence Smith, Violet Sullivan, Lois Means, Charlotte Masters and Jenny Snyder all of Decatur and Myrtle Hoese of Niles, MI; ten grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Max Nichols and John Nichols, one sister, Nellie Knapp and two brothers in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2002 in the Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Rev. Darrell Hinkle will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Union Cemetery near Mode with military rites performed by the American Legion Post #611 of Stewardson. Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church of Cowden.
James Everett Bailey

The Lord called James Everett Bailey, 82, of Shelbyville, formerly of Dalton City and De Soto, MO, home at 1:35 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2002 in Shelbyville Manor.
Funeral Services will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Greg Breeden officiating. Visitation from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Graveside services with military rites will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Woodlawn Cemetery, De Soto, Mo. Memorials may be given to the First Church of the Nazarene, Shelbyville or Lincolnland Hospice.
Mr. Bailey was born on August 26, 1919 in Potosi, MO, the youngest of 17 children of Edward and Amanda Venable Bailey. He was a retired glassmaker for the Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Mt. Zion, and Army veteran of WWII and was affiliated with the First Church of the Nazarene in Shelbyville. He married Eula Henry and she preceded him in death. He later married Luda Gadberry Hardy on June 1, 1973.
Surviving are his wife, Luda; son, James H. Bailey and wife Linda of Sullivan; step-sons, David Hardy and wife Cheryl of Decatur and Jerry Ritchie and wife Marcella of De Soto, MO; daughter, Evalene Shackelford and husband Ron of Sugar Land, TX; step-daughters, Sheila Lane and husband Clifton of De Soto, MO and Sharon Trudeau of Owasso, OK; sister, Nellie Perryman of Pilot Knob, MO; 22 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; and fifteen brothers and sisters.
He will be missed by his loved ones and friends.
Anna Marie Pease
Pana
Anna Marie Pease, 91, of Pana, died at 12:40 a.m. in Heritage Manor on Saturday January 5, 2002.
She was born on August 28, 1910 in Oconee Township, the daughter of Herman Nicholas and Jesse May Schafer Berns.
She had been an employee of the dress factory and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Nokomis.
She married Frank Walsh in 1926, he preceded her in death.
She married John Fredrick Pease on September 28, 1949. He died on June 28, 1996.
She is survived by her son Frank Raymond Walsh and wife Lila of Sugar Grove, Illinois; her step children, John F. Pease III and wife Janey of Tower Hill; Donald Pease and wife Sally of Tower Hill; Imogene Richardson and husband Howard in Texas and Gary Pease of Rockford, Illinois.
Two grandchildren, Danny Brookman of Oconee; and Linda Thull of Litchfield; five great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren survive also.
Her special friend, Bob Wideman of Pana survives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands; daughter, Betty Ann Brookman on November 5, 1989; two brothers, Herman Berns, Jr. and Harry Berns.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home in Pana and Tuesday from 12 noon until time of service at Shiloh Baptist Church in Nokomis.
Funeral services are Tuesday, January 8, 2002 in Shiloh Baptist Church in Nokomis at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dallas White officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Pana.

Florence M. Beck
Oconee
Florence M. Beck, 83, of Oconee, died on Friday, January 4, 2002 in Heritage Manor in Pana. She was born on July 15, 1918 in Findlay, daughter of Homer C. and Edith Teter Downs. She was a graduate of Rosamond High School and Huber Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Pana. She served in the U.S. Navy as a registered nurse, stationed in Hawaii. She was employed by Drs. Seigert and Mathewson at Siegert Medical Group, then at the same facility after it became known as Pana Medical Group. Member of Oconee Methodist Church where she was pianist and organist and also had served as church secretary; charter member of Oconee American Legion Auxiliary and was past president; and was very involved in the Oconee community for many years.
She married Cecil L. Beck on November 8, 1947 in the First United Methodist parsonage in Pana. She is survived by her husband Cecil L. Beck of Oconee, children; Lawrence Beck and wife Gail of Urbana; Linda Beck and husband Richard of Ramsey; Debra McFarling and husband Fain of Moweaqua; Christine Cothern and husband Jerry of Ramsey; Cathy Dust and husband John of Simpsonville, SC. Eleven grandchildren, Richard, Lisa, Cherly, Jesse, Phillip, C.J., Wesley, Abby, Sadie, George and Maggie; seven great-grandchildren; Chad, Clint, Tiffany, Andrea, Timmy, Katelyn and Briana. Her brother, Arthur Downs of Moweaqua also survive.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Robert and brother Donald Downs.
The family suggests memorials to Buchanan Cemetery Association or Alzheimer's Association. Visitation is Wednesday from five until eight in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Thursday January 10, 2002 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Dan Wright and Rev. Rolland Devor officiating. Burial will be in Buchanan Cemetery, Herrick. Graveside military rites by Roy Ireland American Legion Post #317, Oconee.
Beverly Sue Riley

Beverly Sue Riley, 55, of Pana died at 4:45 p.m. in her residence on Thursday January 3, 2002.
She was born on October 21, 1946 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the daughter of George and Ida Frances English Jay.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Big D grocery store; Pana Federal Savings and Loan; and Tele-A-Pair. She came to Pana in 1965 from Decatur, where she was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School.
She was a former member of the Eastern Star, Oconee.
She married Phillip J. Riley on December 30, 1966 in Warrensburg, Illinois.
She is survived by her husband Phillip J. Riley of Pana; children; Teri C. Fulk and husband Brad of Wood River, Illinois; Cristy E. Long and husband Ralph of Springfield; Cinda M. Cloe and husband Reed of Pana; Kim Cole and husband Shane of Decatur; Timia Griefer of Decatur.
Eight grandchildren, Nicholas Fulk; Garret Cloe; Madison Cloe; Kinsee and Tony Ramsey; Wade, Lacey and Molly Gray; one great grandchild, Conor Reynolds also survive.
Her father, George Jay and wife Harriet of Pana; mother, Fran Karlow and husband Ed of Las Vegas, NV; brothers and sisters; George "Bud" Jay, Jr. and wife Karen of Pana, Judith Sinopoli and husband Sam of Las Vegas, NV; Steve Jay of Ogden, Utah; David Ellington and wife Karen of Decatur; J. Douglas Ellington of Las Vegas, NV survive also.
Visitation is Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home with a Memorial service on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home with Rev. Lawrence Gibson officiating.
