Peggy Kemper
OBLONG - Peggy Ann Kemper, 42, of Oblong, died at 5:55 a.m. Monday (Aug. 7, 2000) in Crawford County.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Bishop Funeral Home, Greenup, with the Rev. Marvin Oakley officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.She was born April 17, 1958, in Greenup, the daughter of Joyce Smith and Betty Nees Smith. She married Randall Eugene Kemper, in 1985; he survives.
Also surviving are one sister, Kathy Sidwell of Charleston, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

SUN CITY, Ariz. - Wesley Parcel Laws, 89, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Charleston and Hindsboro, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday (Aug. 7, 2000) at Sun City, Ariz., Hospital.

Robert Lisenbee
CHARLESTON - Robert "Bo" Lawrence Lisenbee Jr., 40, formerly of Charleston, drowned July 16, 2000, while fishing in Mobile, Ala.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Janesville Wesleyan Church with the Rev. John Mills officiating.
He is survived by his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Robert Lisenbee Sr. of Charleston; one brother, Daniel Lisenbee, stationed with the U.S. Army in Japan; one sister, Kathy Barnard of Tulsa, Okla.; a grandmother of Springfield, Mo.; and former wife of Charleston.
Lucille Niccum
GREENUP - Lucille Niccum, 84, of Greenup, died at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 8, 2000) at her residence.

Guy Spear
ARCOLA - Guy Spear, 75, of Arcola, IL passed away at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at his residence in Arcola, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August, 11, 2000 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 E. Main St., Arcola, IL. Rev. Paul Newton will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2000 at the funeral home.
Guy was born July 29, 1925 in Tompkinsville, KY. A son of Carmen and Donnie (Meadows) Spear. He married Lena Elizabeth Parker on February 10, 1951 in Barren County, KY. She passed away on December 8, 1994.
He is survived by: 2 Sons: Dean Spear of Hindsboro, IL and Bobby Spear and his wife Marcia of Arcola, IL; 2 Daughters, Glenda Abercrombie and her husband James of Tuscola, IL and Dianne Furlong of Arcola, IL; 8 Grandchildren: Nicole Hite and her husband Darren of Newton, IL, David Spear and his wife Beth of Hindsboro, IL, Kristie Abercrombie of Tuscola, IL, Danny Abercrombie of Tuscola, IL, Candy Furlong of Arcola, IL, Ryan Furlong of Arcola, IL, Andy Spear of Arcola, IL and Crystal Spear of Arcola, IL; five Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lena; three brothers, Herbert, Carl and George; and a sister, Vera Counts.
Guy was an Army veteran of World War II. He farmed when he came to this area in 1955. He later worked as a carpenter for Ed Cunningham for two and a half years. He worked for Progress Industries in Arthur, IL until his retirement in 1988. Guy also owned and operated Spear's Insulating for several years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and he attended Kemp Church of Christ.

Harlan Cottingham
CHARLES-TON - Harlan E. Cottingham, 83, of Charleston, died at 4:05 p.m. Friday (Aug. 6, 2000) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Montgomery St. Church of God. Burial will be in Bell Cemetery near Diona. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Caudill-King Funeral Home.
He was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Greenup, the son of Charles and Ulah May Hutton Cottingham. He married Virginia Lowry in 1947; she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Martha Carter of Casper, Wyo., and Mary Wright of Greenup; one sister, Ruth Waltrip of Springfield; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Cottingham had retired from Mid-State Foundry in Charleston and was an army veteran of World War II. He was a member of an anti-aircraft unit that landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. Mr. Cottingham was a member of the Montgomery St. Church of God.

Helen M. Gilbert
CHARLESTON - Helen M. Gilbert, 89, of Charleston, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Nursing Home in Mattoon. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Caudill-King Funeral Home. Burial will be in Indian Cemetery near Lerna. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 10, 1911, in Coles County, the daughter of George and Bertha Helen Grimes Graves. She married Edmund Gilbert on Dec. 17, 1933; he died on May 14, 1982.
Survivors include one son, George Gilbert of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. James (Bertha) Anderson of Sullivan and Mrs. William (Rose) Snider of Charleston; one brother, Charles R. Grimes of Charleston; one sister, Leona Phipps of Chrisman; one sister-in-law, Esther Gilbert of Greenwood, Ind.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one brother and one granddaughter. Mrs. Gilbert graduated from Mattoon Methodist Memorial School of Nursing in 1933. She was a retired register nurse and did volunteer work for over 40 years. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Charleston and former member of the Lerna Eastern Star Chapter.

Debra McQueen
Debra (Debbie) Ann McQueen 43 of Mattoon died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday (August 6, 2000) in the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana due to a malignant brain tumor.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor by Rev Richard Eident. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Sand Creek Cemetery near Windsor.
She was born February 23, 1957 in Effingham the daughter of Jerald and Goldie Davis McQueen.
She was a home care provider for several years and attended Windsor schools.
Surviving are daughter Brandie Jo McQueen of Mattoon, grandchildren Miles Callow and Tyler Barr of Mattoon, mother Goldie P. McQueen of Mattoon, brothers Ronald McQueen and wife Brenda of Mattoon, and James McQueen and wife Cristy of Neoga; sisters, Sherry Pieper and husband Frank of Champaign and Janet Stull and husband John of Mattoon; nine nieces and nephews and fifteen great- nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and brother Terry McQueen.

Harold E. Perkins
MATTOON - Harold E. Perkins, age 84, of Mattoon, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2000 at Mattoon Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday (today), August 8, 2000 at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend L. K. Hucker officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with military rites by the United States Marine Corps. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Harold E. Perkins was born March 16, 1916 at Mattoon, a son of Charles E. and Mary Alice Mapes Perkins. He married Betty Lou Williams on November 28, 1946 at Mattoon, she survives.
Also surviving are his children, Ronnie Perkins and his wife Patty of Dallas City, Illinois; Diana Zollman and her husband Richard of Mattoon; Eugenia Perkins of Lockheart, Texas and Tammy Hudson and her husband Larry of Mattoon; and two sisters, Naomi Smith and Lenora Shores of Mattoon.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bob Zollman and his wife Pennie of Sullivan, Illinois; Michael Perkins of Dallas City, Illinois; Amy Garrett of Florissant, Missouri; Amanda Garrett, Tyler Hudson and Josh Hudson all of Mattoon; four great-grandchildren and his dog, Annie. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Mr. Perkins was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II. He was a former employee of Brown Shoe Company and Eastern Illinois University.

Earnest Sparks
CHARLESTON - Earnest L. Sparks, 85, of Charleston, died at 2:53 a.m. Monday (Aug. 7, 2000) at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Nursing Home, Mattoon.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Caudill-King Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 19, 1914, in Newton, the son of Claude and Millie Reed Sparks. He married Juanita L. Gorrell in 1937; she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Keith Sparks of Charleston; one daughter, Berdina Cox of Fulton, Mo.; one sister, Olive Wilson of E. Moline; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by three brothers and two grandchildren.
Mr. Sparks retired as an auto mechanic at Lindley Chevrolet, Charleston. He was a member of the University Baptist Church.
