Goldie Hutson
CHARLESTON - Goldie Hutson, 95, of Charleston died at 4:50 p.m. Friday (Aug. 4, 2000) at Hilltop Nursing Home.
The graveside funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mound Cemetery in Charleston with the Rev. Bill Boaz officiating.
She was born June 10, 1905, in Ste. Marie, the daughter of William J. and Margaret House Shryock. She married Walter O. Hutson in 1924. He died in 1963.
Surviving are one son, William Hutson Sr. of Charleston; one daughter, Barbara J. Hunt of Terre Haute, Ind.; one brother, Phillip Shryock of Chicago; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Hutson was a retired LPN from the former Charleston Memorial Hospital and previously worked at Brown Shoe Co.
She was a former member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Charleston.
Fern Hocking
LOVINGTON - Fern Emaline (King) Hocking, 73, of Lovington died at 6 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 6, 2000) at her daughter's home in Sullivan.
Arrangements are incomplete at the Shrader Funeral Home.
Debra McQueen
Debra (Debbie) Ann McQueen 43 of Mattoon died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday (August 6, 2000) in the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana due to a malignant brain tumor.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor by Rev Richard Eident. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service-time. Burial will be in Sand Creek Cemetery near Windsor.
She was born February 23, 1957 in Effingham the daughter of Jerald and Goldie Davis McQueen.
She was a home care provider for several years and attended Windsor schools.
Surviving are daughter Brandie Jo McQueen of Mattoon, grandchildren Miles Callow and Tyler Barr of Mattoon, mother Goldie P. McQueen of Mattoon, brothers Ronald McQueen and wife Brenda of Mattoon, and James McQueen and wife Cristy of Neoga; sisters, Sherry Pieper and husband Frank of Champaign and Janet Stull and husband John of Mattoon; nine nieces and nephews and fifteen great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and brother Terry McQueen.
Memorials may be made to the grandchildren.
Dennis Paige
PHOENIX, ARZ. - Dennis Franklin Paige, 58, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Charleston, died in his home in Phoenix, Ariz.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Lovington with the Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Burial will be in the Keller Cemetery in Lovington with military rites. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1942, in Chicago, the son of Frank and Eva Singhill Pearson Paige. He married Betty Joanne Cochran in 1999. She survives.Also surviving are two sons, Brett Paige of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Douglas Paige of Mattoon; one stepson, William Sanders II of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Heather Paige of Ashmore; a special friend, Ellen Prehara of Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
Mr. Paige was a auditor and a Marine during the Vietnam war.

Rose Pierce
CHARLESTON, IL. - Rose Pierce, age 67, of Charleston, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2000 at Mattoon Health Care Center. Services celebrating Rose's life will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Dale Beck officiating. Visitation will be held this evening (Monday) from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Services and visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston.
Rose was born April 10, 1933 in Neoga, Illinois the daughter of James and Irma (Ellis) Sampson. She married Gary Lee Jones in 1953 in Mattoon, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1973. She later married Jim Pierce on July 16, 1977 in Charleston. He survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Michael G. Jones and his wife Laura, Brian Jones and his wife Becky and Randy L. Jones and his wife Michele, all of Charleston; one step daughter Connie Walters and her husband Monty of Ashmore, Illinois; one stepson Tim Pierce and his wife Rhonda of Charleston; seven grandchildren, Britni, Tori, Blair, Emily, Kayla, Teigan and Wade Jones, all of Charleston; three step grandchildren, Jason Walters and his wife Betsy and Matt Walters, all of Ashmore and Kelsey Nickell of Charleston; one brother, Robert Sampson and his wife Guylene of Foosland, Illinois, and five sisters, Mrs. Bernard (Joan) Weber and Helen Johnson and her husband Kenneth, all of Mattoon, Illinois, Norma Torano and her husband John of Key West, Florida, Marge Ryan and her husband Rodney of Arthur, Illinois and Eileen Summers and her husband Don of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. She was preceded by her parents, a sister, Elflida Fleshner and a brother, James Sampson.First and foremost, Rose was a homemaker who was devoted to her family, grandchildren and step-grandchildren, but many will remember her as a Teller at several local financial institutions. She was a Graduate of Mattoon High School. Her hobbies included ceramics and walking.Memorials in honor of Rose may be made to the Donor's choice.
Rosalie M. Benedict
CHARLESTON - Rosalie M. Benedict, age 77, of Charleston, died on Thursday, August 3, 2000, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. The Funeral Mass celebrating Rosalie's life will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Joseph Ring presiding. The Funeral Mass and visitation will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church at Tenth and Jefferson Streets in Charleston. Visitation will be held Friday evening August 4, from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil at 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at St. Stephens Cemetery in Flora, Illinois. Arrangements are being handled by Adams Funeral Chapel of Charleston.Rosalie was born March 2, 1923, in Sedalia, Missouri, the daughter of Peter and Sarah (Wilson) Stuerzenberger. She married James R. Benedict on July 26, 1951, in Chester, Illinois.
Survivors include her husband Jim of Charleston; three daughters, Ellen Beurskens and her husband Hank and Anne Pagliai and her husband Paul, all of Charleston and Kay Wheeler of Mt. Zion, Illinois; eleven grandchildren, Tony, Tim, Patrick, and Nicholas Beurskens, Amanda Kralik and her husband Jim, Jeff, Becky, Charlie and Bradley Wheeler and Rosie and John Pagliai, and two brothers, Robert Stuerzenberger of Abilene, Texas and James Stuerzenberger and his wife Donna of Owensboro, Kentucky. She was preceded by her parents and two brothers.
Rosalie was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston, St. Charles Women's Council and the Ladies Golf Association of the Charleston Country Club. She was a homemaker, who held a special fondness for her family, especially her grandchildren. She had a special way with children; her grandchildren and their friends were drawn to her and all of them affectionately called her "Nana."
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials in honor of Rosalie be made to the Newman Center or the Ronald McDonald House, in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 84, Charleston, IL 61920.
Wayne Benton
MATTOON - Wayne E. Benton, 53, of Mattoon, died at 9:20 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 3, 2000) at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Frances Brown
SHELBYVILLE - Frances W. (Banning) Brown, 83, of Shelbyville, died at 7:26 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 2, 2000) in Shelby Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 4, 1916, in Shelby County, the daughter of Cloyd T. and Maude Belle Courtright Banning. She married Clarence W. "Ted" Brown in 1935; he died in 1997.
Survivng are three sons, Harry Brown of Indiantown, Fla., Jack Brown of Elk Grove Village and Steven Brown of Lebanon; one daughter, Mary Everett of Strasburg; one brother, Tom Banning of Decatur; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one sister.Mrs. Brown retired from the Mattoon Garment Factory. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union of Mattoon and the Kaskaskia Boat Club of Shelbyville; she attended the First Church of the Nazarene, Shelbyville; and she was a member of the Mode United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, Shelbyville, or Mode United Methodist Church.
Clyde Myers
ARCOLA - Clyde Clifford Myers, 86, of Arcola, died at 10:50 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 3, 2000) at the Hilltop Nursing Home in Charleston.
Mr. Myers was born May 30, 1914, in Douglas County, a son of Bert and Nellie Little Myers. He married Alyce Ratts in 1938; she survives.
Also surviving are one son, David Myers of Camargo; two daughters, Diane Ehrsam of Mahomet and Debbie Myers of Arcola; one brother, Don Myers of Arcola; nine grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son. Mr. Myers worked in the steel mills of Chicago, and was a member of the Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church and a member of the National Farm Organization.
Memorials may be made to the Arcola Lions Club or Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church.
