Hildegard E. Kirchner, 80, of Mattoon, formerly of Seneca, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 25, 1999, at the Harmony Center of the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Seneca, Illinois, with Monsignor Raymond Boyle officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Seneca. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Osborne-Nelson Funeral Home in Seneca.
Hildegard was born in St. Louis, Mo. on November 5, 1919, a daughter of Joseph and Catherine Marquardt Schallom. She married Howard Kirchner on December 28, 1946. He passed away in 1987. She was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Survivors include four daughters, Arlene R. Bell and husband John of Boise, Idaho, Audrey R. Boyd and husband Mike of Mattoon, Anita R. Revelle and husband Donald of Lexington, Ill., Adele R. Koehler and husband Mark of Morris, Ill.; one brother, Edward R. Schallom and wife Lee of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Barbara Anton and husband Norman of St. Louis, Mo.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kirchner was a homemaker and a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Seneca.
Memorials maybe made to the Lincolnland Visiting Nurses or to donor's choice.
Esther Martin
ASHMORE - Esther Martin, 73, of Ashmore, died at 2 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 26, 1999) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Kenneth Matheny
VENICE, FLA. - Kenneth "Cy" Daniel Matheny, 84, of Venice, Fla., died Friday (Dec. 24, 1999).
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, Venice, Fla. The Farley Funeral Home Venice Chapel is in charge of the arrangements
He was born July 16, 1915, in Hutsonville.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Matheny of Venice, Fla.; one son, Kenneth A. Matheny of Chardon, Ohio; one daughter, Nancy Jo Carter of Kansas City, Kan.; one brother, George Matheny of Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Jean Turner and Helen Uskali, both of Mattoon; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Matheny worked as a signal supervisor with Con-Rail for 40 years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Cincinnati Layfette Masonic Lodge No. 483, Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a member of the National Association of Veteran Railroad Employees.

Charles Mory
MATTOON - Charles "Chuck" Mory, 79, of Mattoon, died at 6:25 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 23, 1999) at his home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. John P. Besore III and the Rev. Jan Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday evening at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home.
He was born June 19, 1920, in Elkhart, the son of Charles L. and Marie Bortner Mory. He married Emily Goddell Peel in 1941. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Mike Mory of Springfield; one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Connie) Pocus of Batavia; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son and one daughter.
Mr. Mory retired as the owner of Mory's Jewelry. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mattoon Rotary Club, and the Charleston Country Club.
Albert Paul
CHARLESTON - Albert Edward "Ed" Paul, 85, of Charleston, died at 8:35 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 26, 1999) at Prairie View Convalescent Home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
He was born April 14, 1914 in Charleston, the son of James and Bertha Etolie Paul. He married Carolyn Abbott in 1941. She survives.
Also surviving are one brother, Floyd Earl Paul of Camino, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Danny (Barbara) Minnick of Villa Park; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Mr. Paul was a retired executive officer for Charleston Columbian Savings & Loan for 39 years. He was a member of the Army Air Force as a radio operator on a B-24 in the 485th Bomb Group, Italy, during WW II. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Charleston, was a city commissioner, an officer of Carnegie Public Library and a director on the Charleston Cemetery Association.
Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Robert Russell Rice, Sr.
Robert Russell Rice, Sr., age 95, of Mattoon, died 12:50 P.M. Sat., Dec. 25, 1999, at the Odd-Fellow Rebekah Home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Diener officiating. Interment will be at Dodge Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Robert Russell Rice, Sr. was born November 28, 1904 at North Okaw Twp, a son of Lawrence Eugene and Maude Mae Miller Rice. He married Lela Florence Hayes February 5, 1929. She passed away April 28, 1997.
He is survived by one son Robert Russell (Bob) Rice Jr. and his wife Betty of Mattoon, one granddaughter, Sheryl Baugher and her husband Jason of Toledo and one great grandson Andrew Jason Baugher of Toledo.
He was preceded in death by one son and one sister.
Mr. Rice was a member of the Central Community Church for over 60 years, a life member of the International Order of Odd-Fellows #260, Mattoon Eagles Lodge and Teamsters Local #26.
Mr. Rice was a retired truck driver for A&B Transfer.
Chester Roberts
GREENUP - Chester W. Roberts, 85, of Greenup, formerly of Mattoon, died at 12:50 a.m. Friday (Dec. 24, 1999) at the Cumberland Nursing Center.
A graveside funeral will be at noon today in the Arthur Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Janes officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 23, 1914 in Katy, Texas, the son of Willis E. and Retta W. Dillon Roberts. He married Frances Anna Middlesworth in 1938. She died in 1995.
Surviving are 15 nieces and nephews.
Mr. Roberts retired from Meadow Gold Dairy in Mattoon, where he had been a truck driver for more than 40 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mattoon.
Mike Sanders
MATTOON - Mike Sanders, 53, of Mattoon, died Thursday (Dec. 23, 1999) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with the Rev. John Crutcher officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 12:30 until service time today at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 14, 1946 in Mattoon, the son of Thomas E. and Evelyn E. Hall Sanders.
Surviving are his mother, Evelyn Smith of Mattoon; one brother, David Sanders of Mattoon; and one nephew, Joshua Sanders of Mattoon.
He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather, and one stepsister.
Mr. Sanders was a certified public accountant with Doehring Winders and Company. He was a member of the Mattoon Moose Lodge and Mattoon Eagles Lodge.
Mabel L. Shafer
TOLEDO - Mabel L. Shafer, 95, of Toledo, died at 9:20 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 25, 1999) at Cumberland Nursing Center, Greenup, IL.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Barkley Funeral Home, Toledo. Burial will be in Jewett Cemetery, Jewett, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was born June 3, 1904, in Jewett, the daughter of Andrew and Dora Giles Wilson. She married Virgil Shafer in 1924. He died in 1950.
Surviving are three nephews, Larry Wilson of Effingham, and John Wilson and H.A. Wilson, both of Toledo; and four nieces Winona Reisner of Gila, Wanda Starwalt of Jewett, Alice Sherwood of Toledo, and Marjorie Shafer of Greenup.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers.
Mrs. Shafer was a retired cook from the Toledo Schools. She was a member of the Jewett Community Church.
