PARIS - Marvin Thomas Carwell, 70, of Paris, died at 6 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 29, 2000) at the Paris Community Hospital.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home in Paris with the Pastor Charles Sturgill officiating. Burial will be in Embarrass Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was born June 17, 1929 in Janesville, the son of James O. and Lola M. Walker Carwell. He married Twilla Lee Lauher in 1954. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Lola M. Carwell of Oakland; three sons, Steve Carwell of Sandy, Utah, Gary Carwell of Paris, and David Carwell of Port Au Prince, Haiti; one brother, Harold J. Carwell of Oakland; one sister, Virginia A. Carwell of Georgetown, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Carwell taught elementary education in the Paris School District and did accounting for Paris Feed and Seed Co. and Helfrich's Florists. He was a member of the Horace Baptist Church and member of the National Education Association and Illinois Education Association.
Memorials may be made to the Horace Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

Louis Garver
WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. - Louise Garver, 64, of West Lafayette Ind., died at 6:35 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 29, 2000) at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Indiana.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel in West Union, Ill. Burial will be in Clarksville Cemetery northwest of Marshall. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and before services on Wednesday.
She was born September 22, 1935 in Auburne Township, the daughter of Jack Sylvanus and Gladys Higginbotham Thompson. She married Bobbie Lee Garver in 1951. He died in 1983.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna Dalton of West Lafayette, Ind.; one sister, Dorothy Riggs of rural Marshall; one brother, Max Thompson of rural Marshall; one granddaughter; one step-father, step-brother and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Garver was a homemaker, farmer and retired electronics assembler from TRW in Marshall. She was a member of the Clarksville Baptist Church.

FORT WAYNE, IND. - Evelyn Edith Shields, 85, of Fort Wayne, Ind., formerly of Casey, died at 7 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 30, 2000) at her residence.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Neal Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial will be in Louisville. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m.. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born July 3, 1914 in Casey, the daughter of Homer and Goldie (Shawver) Brookhart. She married Don F. Shields in 1934. He died in 1999.
Surviving are one son, Richard H. Shields of Winina, Minn; two daughters Donna Shields of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Lois Pruiett of Mt. Vernon Washington; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son and one sister.
Mrs. Shields was a school teacher.
