Wayne L. Webb, age 69, of Mattoon, passed away at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2000, at his residence.
The funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. John P. Besore III officiating. Burial will be in the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Wayne was born in Mattoon on October 28, 1930, a son of George Neal and Leona V. Sparks Webb.
He married Barbara Ann Renouf on June 2, 1951, at Slate Lick, Pennsylvania.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Webb of Mattoon; three sons, David W. Webb and wife Maureen S. of Valparaiso, Ind., Joseph N. Webb and wife Patricia E. of Mattoon, and Michael G. Webb and wife Patricia A. of Pittsburgh, Penn.; one daughter, Linda A. Upton and husband James M. of Boca Raton, Fla.; two brothers, Kenneth E. Webb and wife Freda R. and William H. Webb and wife Liza, all of Mattoon; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George N. Webb and Edward Webb.
Mr. Webb was an electrician all his life and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 146 in Decatur. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 88, the Eagles Club 3438, Loyal Order of the Moose #803, and the First Presbyterian Church. Wayne was an avid golfer and bowler. He was handy with tools and was always willing to help others with their projects and he loved remodeling things. He will also be well remembered for having coached Little League in Pennsylvania for many years.

Clarence Zeigler
CHARLESTON - Clarence Zeigler, 68, of Charleston died at 4:20 a.m. Monday (May 1, 2000) at the Hilltop Convalescent Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harper-Swickard Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Boaz officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born July 31, 1931, in Oakland, the son of John and Emma Dick Zeigler.
Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Russell "Bud" (Nora) Sanders of Arcola.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Mr. Zeigler was a farm hand and construction worker.
Norma Cardinal
Norma J. Cardinal, age 79, of Mattoon, passed away at 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2000, at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Norma was born at home in Union, Indiana, on August 14, 1920, a daughter of James and Edith Brenton Tolbert.
She married Raymond Leon Cardinal on August 10, 1940. He passed away on November 18, 1977.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters.
Survivors include one son, Michael L. Cardinal and wife Nancy of Sullivan; one daughter, Marsha Nichols and husband H. Steven of Champaign; and three grandchildren, Andrew J. Cardinal of Champaign, Kelly J. Cardinal of Sullivan, and Allison Ackerman of Madison, Wisconsin.
Mrs. Cardinal was employed in catalog sales with the Sears, Roebuck, & Co. from 1969 until she retired in 1992. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Mattoon.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
Hazel Grabb
WINDSOR - Hazel E. Grabb, 80, of Windsor, died at 10:37 p.m. Friday (April 28, 2000) in the Mattoon Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor by Rev. Richard Eident. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the Windsor Cemetery.
She was born April 7, 1920 in Macon County, Illinois the daughter of William and Delmara Calvert Atwood.
She married Virgil E. Grabb April 9, 1939 in Decatur and he preceded her in death May 3, 1983.
She was a member of the Windsor Christian Church and member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Windsor. She and her husband operated several businesses in Windsor.
Surviving are son, Lawrence Grabb and wife Sally of Noblesville, IN; daughter, Judith Phipps and husband Pat of Windsor; brother W.L. (Bill) Atwood of Decatur; sister, Opal Armstrong and husband Herb of Denver CO; grandchildren, Kris Phipps and wife Heidi of Charleston, Mindy Bartscherer and husband Peter of Pennsylvania, Pam Howard of Windsor, David Phipps and wife Cindy of Mattoon, Rachel Grabb of Indianapolis, IN and Lindsay Grabb of Noblesville, IN and thirteen great-grandchildren.
One great-grandchild preceded her in death.

Georgia Nirkind
Georgia A. Nirkind, age 92, of Mattoon, passed away at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the Convalescent Care Center.
The graveside funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Danville National Cemetery in Danville, Ill. No visitation is planned. The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Georgia was born in Mattoon on March 31, 1908, a daughter of Thomas O. and Mattie Fay Eaton Beatty.
She married G. W. Fred Walton. He passed away in 1934.
She married Samuel S. Nirkind on January 19, 1937. He passed away on April 20, 1984.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Puhl, and her sister, Irene Owens.
Survivors include two grandsons, Walter Puhl III of Taylorville, George Puhl of Peoria Heights; two granddaughters, Gwynne Hinton and husband Aaron of St. Elmo, Adele Phillips and husband Dan of Sun City, Calif.; one great-grandson, Daniel Phillips of Sun City, Calif., and three great-granddaughters, Candy Kneller and Mandy Kneller, both of St. Elmo and Brianna Phillips of Sun City, Calif.; son-in-law, Walter Puhl Jr. of Mattoon; and nephew, Tom Owens of Mattoon.
Memorials are suggested to the Mattoon Senior Citizens Center or the Alzheimer's Unit at Convalescent Care Center.
Eunice Pierson
OAKLAND - Eunice I. Pierson, 91, of Oakland, died at 11:05 p.m. Saturday (April 29, 2000) at her residence.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Taber Funeral Home, Oakland, with Tony Crouch officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 16, 1908, the daughter of W. L. (Coop) and Sarah Ann Henry Allen.
She married John Pierson in 1991. He survives.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
Mrs. Pierson was a member of the Oakland Christian Church, the Oakland Rebekah Lodge, Royal Neighbors No. 503, and the Oakland Senior Citizens. She was retired after 60 years as a beauty shop owner.
Memorials may be made to the Oakland Christian Church or the Oakland Senior Citizen Center.
Otha Tabbert
STEWARDSON - Otha O. Tabbert, 79, of Stewardson, died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday (April 29, 2000) at Stewardson.
A private graveside family service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stewardson Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The Brummerstedt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Aug. 19, 1920, the son of Noah and Beryl Huffmaster Tabbert.
He married Thelma Mietzner in 1948. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, William Tabbert of Stewardson; one daughter, Mrs. Steve (Irene) Koester of Westville; three brothers, Max Tabbert of Windsor, Maurice Tabbert of Mattoon and Herbert Tabbert of Effingham; four sisters, Margaret Tabbert of Stewardson, Ellinere Tabbert and Alma Ruth Perry, both of Mattoon, and Gail Rincker of Strasburg; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Mr. Tabbert was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II.

Jean White
MATTOON - Jean Louise White, 72, of Mattoon, died at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000 at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend Scott Kozisek officiating. Interment will be in Janesville Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jean was born January 12, 1928 in Mattoon, the daughter of Glen W. and Hazel Rogers Childers.
She married James A. White, Jr., June 4, 1944 in Mattoon, he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Dr. Jimmie Jean Wilbur and husband Michael Fortunato of Land O'Lakes, FL and Ms. Terree Lynn White of Herscher, IL; her mother: Hazel Childers-Cougill of Charleston; one brother: Charles W. "Bud" Childers and wife Merna of Payson, AZ; three grandchildren: Jamey Pitsch of Champaign, Stacey Frick of Cincinnati, OH, and Michelle Fugate of Mattoon. Three great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her father, Glen W. Childers, one brother, Jackie Lee Childers, and a brother who died in infancy.
Jean was a former employee of K-Mart and GNC, a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Dorans; The Ladies' Aid; and a past member of ABWA. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She bravely fought a four year battle with cancer.

Hazel Arganbright
ARTHUR - Hazel O. Arganbright, 85, of Arthur died at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, (June 29, 2000) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the Vine Street Christian Church, Arthur, with the Rev. Michael Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Shrader Funeral Home, Arthur. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 26, 1914, in Edwardsville, a daughter of Titus O. and Etta O. Johnstone Williams.
She married Clarence E. Arganbright in 1935; he died in 1986.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Ruth Ann) Lowder of Arthur and Mrs. Beryl (Shirley) Edwards of Decatur; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Arganbright was a homemaker and a member of the Vine Street Christian Church, the Mariorretta Rebekah Lodge No. 347, both of Arthur and the PSI IOTA XI Sorority.
