CHARLESTON - Dr. Richard W. Lawson, age 68, of Charleston, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2000 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Services celebrating Richard's life will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Dale Beck officiating at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held at Garrett Funeral Home, 303 North Washington Street in Titusville, Pennsylvania on Thursday evening, June 29 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and graveside services will be conducted on Friday, June 30, 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Titusville.
Richard was born March 2, 1932 in Warren, Pennsylvania the son of Clarence and Elsie Lindstrom Lawson.
He married Dorothy Bloomster on August 18, 1957 in Clarion, Pennsylvania.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Charleston; three daughters, Pamela Moore and her husband Douglas of Sheridan, Wyoming, Kris Lawson of Onalaska, Wisconsin and Rebecca Lawson of Sullivan, and several family pets. He was preceded by his parents.From 1964 to 1997, Richard was a Professor of Library Science at Eastern Illinois University. Prior to his tenure at Eastern, he served as an Assistant Professor of Library Science at Indiana University and Librarian at Slippery Rock State College in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Mansfield State College in Mansfield, Pennsylvania and Girard High School in Girard, Pennsylvania.
Many Charleston area residents will remember him as the owner of D & D Hobbies. Richard was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston, a lifetime member of the Indiana University Alumni Association, and was a former member of the Charleston Community Summer Band Program and the Erie, Pennsylvania Demolay and Past President of the Charleston High School Band Parents Association. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Clarion State College in Clarion, Pennsylvania, his Master's Degree from Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and his PhD from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He also attended Penn State, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Illinois.
Memorials in honor of Richard may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston, the Charleston Community Summer Band Program or the First United Methodist Church of Clarion, Pennsylvania in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 84, Charleston, IL 61920.
Larry LeCrone
SULLIVAN - Larry M. LeCrone, 64, of Sullivan, died at 3:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2000 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
Graveside services with military rites will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Camfield Cemetery, northwest of Sullivan. There will be no visitation. McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan, is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials are suggested in care of the family or to the McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan.
Mr. LeCrone was born on May 4, 1936, in Kirksville, the son of Frank N. and Bertha Marble LeCrone. He retired as assistant food service administrator from the Illinois Masonic Home in 1998 and was a food service administrator at Eastern Illinois University for 10 years. He was a retired G-Sgt. in the U.S.M.C. Among the many medals he received were two purple hearts and a bronze star. He retired from the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion Post #68 in Sullivan; V.F.W. Post #6410, the Geo. A. Sentel Lodge # 764.
He married Reta Ray on December 29, 1970, in Jacksonville, N.C. and she survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Bertha LeCrone of Kirksville; sons, Frank LeCrone and wife Chris of Tucumcari, N.M; Rob LeCrone of Kirksville; Charley LeCrone and wife Lindsay of Champaign; brothers, Ed LeCrone and wife Darlene of Marengo; Max LeCrone and wife Mary of Marshall; sister, Janet Freeman and husband Barry of Insbrook, MO; one granddaughter, Veronica LeCrone of Tucumcari, NM; one nephew and four nieces and their families.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Bud Powers
CHARLESTON - Edward H. "Bud" Powers, age 81, of Charleston, passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2000, at his residence.
The graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Robert C. Clark officiating. No visitation is planned. The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Bud was born in Mattoon on September 11, 1918, a son of William C. and Kathryn Powers.
He married Martha Emaline Turner on November 17, 1940.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Emaline Powers of Charleston; one great-nephew, Richard H. Paugh, four great-nieces, Tracey M. Paugh, Stacey R. Paugh, Cindy S. Paugh and Kathy J. Paugh all of Morrow Ohio.
Mr. Powers was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Wilma Jean Cross and one niece, Donna Paugh.
Mr. Powers was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WW II and Korea. He retired as a foreman from Young's Radiator in 1978 after thirty years of service. After retiring, Bud and his wife Martha owned and operated the Redstone Kennel in rural Charleston for many years. Bud traveled extensively to judge dog shows. He was a member of the American Kennel Club.
Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
Howard Tipton
ARTHUR - Howard L. Tipton, 63, of Arthur, died at 1:25 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2000, in his home.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Methodist Church, Arthur, with the Rev. James Elder officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Arthur. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery, Arthur. Memorials may be made to the Arthur Ambulance and EMT's or the Arthur Lions Club.
Mr. Tipton was born on January 13, 1937, in Decatur, the son of Jesse and Mary Winholz Tipton. Mr. Tipton was the retired owner and chef of the Old Heidelberg" restaurant in Arthur. He was a member of the Garfield Baptist Church in Decatur, treasure of the Illinois Chef's Association, treasure of the sportsman club, Arthur.
He married Maxine Hunnicutt on June 9, 1967 in Decatur; she survives.
Also surviving are sons; Harold Hunnicutt of Valpariso, IN, Richard Tipton and wife Katie of Moweaqua; Alan Tipton of Decatur, Robert Tipton and wife Ginny of Assumption; daughters, Jeannie Schaal and husband Steve of Decatur; Kathy Tipton of Nashville, TN; brother, Tom Tipton of Decatur; sister-in-law, Barb Tipton of Decatur; nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved grandmother and two brothers.
Evelyn Armstrong
MATTOON - Evelyn L. Armstrong, 75, of Mattoon, died at 1:04 p.m. Tuesday (June 20, 2000) at the Mattoon Health Care Center.
The graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (July 5, 2000) at Bethel Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Simonella officiating. The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born in Bristol, Wis., Oct. 9, 1924, a daughter of Herman and Christina Foss Schuld.
She married Roger Armstrong in 1942; he died in 1996.
Surviving are one son, Todd Armstrong of Neoga; one daughter, Mrs. Gene (Judy Ann) Curtis of Manassas, Va.; one brother, Ted Schuld of Edgerton, Wis.; one sister, Mrs. Johnny (Christine) Baumgartener of Oregon, Wis.; and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Armstrong was a homemaker and a member of the Central Community Church.
Karen Sue (Lightner) Aiello
Aiello, Karen Sue (Lightner), 60, of Wichita, formerly of Mattoon, retired broker, died Thursday, July 27, 2000 after a five month battle with cancer.
Service, 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, Aug. 1, Downing & Lahey Mortuary East Chapel.
Mrs. Aiello was born December 19, 1939 in Latham, Kansas. She recently retired from a career as a real estate broker and developer in Denver, CO. She returned to Wichita three years ago to care for her father, Ralph S. Lightner and mother, Byrlee Corbin Davidson. Sue was a tremendous supporter of the arts and education. She will be remembered by her children and numerous loved ones as someone of unparalleled generosity and tremendous abundance of life and vitality. Services will be followed by a reception at 20 Lynwood Blvd., Eastborough.
Survivors: Father, Ralph S. Lightner of Wichita; Mother, Byrlee Corbin Davidson of Wichita; Sons, Tyler of Denver, CO; Antonio of New York, NY; Daughter, Colette Aiello-Knox of Charlotte, NC; Companion, Joe Matherly of Mahomet, IL; Sisters, Michelene Davidson of Wichita; Debbie Ritter of Kansas City, MO; Two Grandchildren; Niece and Nephew, Patrick and Bevin Tucker.

Roger Culp
MATTOON - Roger Allen Culp, 47, of Mattoon, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday (July 27, 2000) at a friend's residence in Newburg, Mo.
The memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Culp officiating.
He was born Sept. 25, 1952, in Robinson, the son of Bernie C. and Mary Evelyn Peterson Culp.
Surviving are his mother, Mary Garrad of Mattoon; one son, Joshua Culp of Asheville, N.C.; two daughters, Charity Decker and Faith Brown, both of Mattoon; two brothers, Rev. Thomas Culp of Charleston and Joe Culp of Mattoon; three sisters, Shirley Beach and Helen Sanders, both of Mattoon, and Linda Coppage of Kentucky; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Culp was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Robert Donsbach
EFFINGHAM - Robert A. Donsbach, 72, of Effingham, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday (July 29, 2000) at his residence.
The funeral will be noon Wednesday at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a parish wake at 6 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m.
He was born June 17, 1928, in Effingham County, the son of Herbert and Elizabeth (Koester) Donsbach. After the death of his mother, he was raised by his grandparents, William and Mary Donsbach.
He married Elizabeth R. "Betty" Walk in 1950. She died in 1986.
Surviving are seven sons, Michael of New Orleans, Robert of Toledo, Gregory of Watson, Randy, William and David, all of Effingham, and Steven of Mason; one daughter, Cynthia J. Matteson of Effingham; special friend, Mary L. Hook of Effingham; one brother, Bernard of Effingham; two half brothers, Norbert Donsbach of St. John, Ind., and Louis Donsbach of Black Oak, Ind.; one half sister, Phyllis Rice of Lawrenceville; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Donsbach was a mechanic at Laue Motor Company and then later at Luckett Ford in Effingham, and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 665, American Legion Post 120 and VFW Post 1769, all of Effingham.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Lincolnland.
Adrian D. Evans
MATTOON - Adrian D. Evans, 75, of Mattoon, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, July 30, 2000 at Mattoon Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, with Reverend Frank Myers officiating. Interment will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Adrian D. Evans was born August 6, 1924 at Toledo, Illinois, a son of Virgil W. and Helen Oakley Evans.
He married Betty L. Jewell in November 1973, she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Virgil and Duane Evans of Streator, Illinois, one daughter, Evelyn Tkatch also of Streator; two stepsons, Rick Jewell and wife Cheryl of Mattoon and Lenny Jewell and wife Debbie of Riverview, Michigan as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One special aunt, Marge Thorton of Charleston also survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, George Evans and one grandson.
Mr. Evans was a retired farmer and former employee of D-Co Oil Company and was former manager of Hilltop Trailer Park. He was a member of Toledo United Methodist Church.
