BOURBON - John A. Atwell, 89, of Bourbon, died at 10:50 a.m. Monday (Aug. 28, 2000) at the Arthur Home, Arthur.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bourbon Baptist Church, Bourbon, with the Rev. Wayne Arganbright officiating. Burial will be in the Bourbon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
He was born Jan. 1, 1911, in Bourbon, the son of Everett A. and Lillis Sipp Atwell.
He married Nancy C. Harrington in 1933; she died in January.
Surviving are one son, Thomas E. Atwell of Newark, Ohio; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son and one sister.
Mr. Atwell was a retired farmer and former postmaster of Bourbon. He had also worked at the Tuscola Post Office and the Champaign Post Office, having retired in 1974. He and his wife formerly operated the Bourbon General Store. Mr. Atwell was a member of the Bourbon Baptist Church; a 50-year member of the Tuscola Masonic Lodge 332, AF and AM; a member of the Tuscola Moose Lodge; a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and a member of the Douglas County Farm Bureau.

Edna M. Hite
Edna Marion Hite, 88, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 1:03 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at Mattoon Health Care in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2000 at the Edwards Funeral Home 221 E. Main St. Arcola, IL. Rev. John Sheppard will officiate. Burial will be in the Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hite was born March 18, 1912 in Humboldt, IL. A daughter of Henry "Hank" and Mary (Moore) Louthan.
She married Everett Hite on February 12, 1932. He passed away Sept. 23, 1984.
Edna is survived by: 1 Son: William Fred Hite and his wife Myrna of Philo, IL; 1 Brother: Harold Louthan of Humboldt, IL; 4 Grandchildren: Cindy Paeth and her husband Gene of Pesotum, IL, Gene Hite and his wife Connie of Springfield, IL, Raymond Hite and his wife Traci of Fulton, MO, Michelle Outlaw of Urbana, IL; 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett; 1 granddaughter, Edith Hite: 1 brother, Voris Henry Louthan and 6 sisters, Blanche Whiteley, Zola Callahan, Marie Thompson, Flo Campbell, Dorothy Morgan and Irene Tanner.
Edna was a homemaker. She was a member of the Humboldt Christian Church, a member of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary all of Humboldt.

Mae Kuykendall
MARSHALL - Mae G. Kuykendall, 98, of Marshall, formerly of Kansas, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 29, 2000) at Paris Healthcare Center.
An OES memorial service will be conducted by OES Chapter 774 at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Marshall. A memorial service will immediately follow with the Rev. John Davis officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Kansas. No visitation is planned. The Pearce Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Dec. 5, 1901, in Marshall, the daughter of Ivan Loser and Ora Forsythe Loser.
She married Thomas Howard Kuykendall in 1922; he died in 1963.
Surviving are two sons, William H. Kuykendall of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and James Thomas Kuykendall of Livonia, Mich.; one daughter, Barbara Marrs of Marshall; two sisters, Dorothy Pendell of Westfield and Ester Howell of Desert Palms, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, four brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Kuykendall was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshall, a charter member and past worthy matron of OES Chapter 774 of Kansas, and honorary member of OES Chapter 739 of Marshall. She was also a member of the Past Matron Circle and a member and former president of the Marshall Senior Citizens.
