LOVINGTON - Dakotah Leigh Goss, infant son of Buff Joseph Goss and Mia Dawn Albers Hinton of Lovington, died at 4:02 a.m. on Thursday (Aug. 24, 2000) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Surviving are his parents; four brothers; two sisters; and grandparents, Loris and Helen Goss of Hartford, Mich., and David and Lois Albers of South Haven, Mich.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Clifford Reed
EFFINGHAM - Clifford H. Reed, 77, of Effingham, formerly of West Union, died at 8:35 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 26, 2000) at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
He was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Tuscola, a son of Grover and Mary Mae Adams Reed.
He married Geneva Cooper; she died in March.
Surviving are two sons, David Alan Reed of Martinsville and Darrell Wayne Reed of Mattoon; five daughters, Mary Ann Blei of Effingham, Loretta June Walker of Indianapolis, Deborah Lynn Clearwater of Paris, Janice Bergman of Vincennes, Ind., and Patty Konecny of West Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, Dean Reed of Marshall; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, two daughters, two sisters and one grandchild.
Mr. Reed was a retired truck driver, employed with various companies for more than 60 years. He had been a member of Truck Driver Teamsters Local in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Harold Templeton
GAYS - Harold Gene Templeton, 82, of Gays, died at 3:53 p.m Sunday, (August 27, 2000) in the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County.
Burial will be in the Ash Grove Cemetery, Windsor, with military rites.
He was born August 11, 1918, in Ash Grove Twp., Shelby Co. IL, the son of Roy Franklin and Edna Celestial Robison Templeton.
He married Mildred P. Angell December 27, 1947, in Gays; she preceded him in death April 15, 1995.
He was a member a former deacon of the Ash Grove Christian Church a veteran of WW II serving in the Army, member of the American Legion Post #88 in Mattoon and former member of the Shelby Memorial Hospital Board. He was a retired farmer.
Surviving are daughters, Jane E. Storm and husband Larry D. of Windsor and Jean A. Webb and husband Mack D. of Mattoon; sisters, Maxine Herdeen and husband Delmar of Mattoon and Margery Gilstrap of Corvallis, OR; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild and one step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Memorials may be made to the Ash Grove Christian Church.
Thelma Yaw
SULLIVAN - Thelma E. Yaw, 95, Sullivan, died at 2:35 p.m. Sunday (August 27, 2000) in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.
Burial will be in Arthur Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Moultrie County Senior Center.
Thelma was born April 23, 1905, in Arthur, the daughter of George and Jennie Hester Fifer.
She retired from the Sullivan IGA, was a member of the Moultrie County Senior Citizens and her hobbies included bowling and bingo.
She married Russell H. Yaw on October 19, 1924 and he preceded her in death on February 9, 1977.
Surviving are her grandchildren, Mike Davis, Mission Hill, California, Cheri Redfern and her husband Theron of Lovington, Marjorie Horn and her husband Chester Alan of Sullivan, Kathy Risley and her husband Thom of Sullivan, Jeri Davis and his wife Ruth Ellen of Decatur, Marci Thompson and her husband Pat of Sullivan and Stephanie Campbell and her husband Lee of Windsor; fourteen great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, daughters, Mary Catherine Shaw, Maxine Davis; five brothers and three sisters.
Fay Collins
ATWOOD - Faye Collins, 80, of Atwood died at 1:10 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 27, 2000) at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home in Atwood with the Rev. Jay Adrian officiating. Burial will be in Mackville Cemetery in Atwood. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Atwood, the daughter of Francis and Rosa Lee (Dukeman) Sanders Sr.
She married Woodrow W. Collins in 1937. He died in 1988.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Collins of Atwood and John R. Collins of Rantoul; one daughter, Evelyn Carrillo of Atwood; one brother, Francis R. Sanders Jr. of Atwood; one sister, Betty Sharp of Atwood; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Collins was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church of Atwood.

Palmer Cox
Palmer Sargent Cox, 93, of Camargo, IL, died at 3:30 AM, Saturday, August 26, 2000 at the Urbana Manor Care Center, Urbana, IL.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with the Rev. Chris Ritter officiating. A visiting hour for friends of the family will be held from 2-3 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Cox will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered on the family farm.
Mr. Cox was born July 6, 1907 in Coles County, IL, the son of Claud and Margaret Pearl Sargent Cox.
He married Miriam Beall Cox. She preceded him in death.
He married Rosemary Nussel Cox. She survives.
Other survivors include: 1 daughter: Sue Cox Dickson of Monticello, IL, and 1 son, Claude Edward Cox and wife: Sam of Hawthorn Woods, IL, 1 step-daughter: Marylee Nussel McGee and husband: Kim of Newman, IL, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-grandchildren.
Mr. Cox Graduated from Charleston High School, Charleston State Teachers College (now Eastern Illinois University) and the University of Illinois, where he was a member of the Farm House fraternity. He taught agriculture at Tuscola High School for 15 years and farmed the Coles County family farm all of his adult life. He was also a director at the former Charleston National Bank for 50 years.
Mr. Cox was a member of the Tri-City Country Club in Villa Grove, IL, and the Kaskaskia Country Club in Arcola, IL. He was a member of the Tuscola United Methodist Church and a supporter of the Camargo United Methodist Church.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association, Camargo United Methodist Church or to a charity of the Donor's Choice.
Sandra Gordon
MATTOON - Sandra Gordon, age 53, of Mattoon, passed away at 5:58 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2000 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2000 at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend Robert C. Clark officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from Noon to service time Thursday.
Sandra Gordon was born March 27, 1947 in Mattoon, Illinois, a daughter of Max and Mary E. Drury Hurst.
She is survived by her step-father, Lester M. Smith of Sullivan; daughters, Teresa Newgent and her husband Michael of Lerna and Nichelle Romack of Mattoon; a brother, Donald E. Hurst of LaPorte, Texas and three special grandchildren, Jennifer, Shelby and Brandon.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Mrs. Gordon attended the First Christian Church and was a member of the Sullivan American Legion Post 68 Auxiliary. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
Marjorie Hanfland
NEOGA - Mrs. Marjorie E. Hanfland, 84, of Neoga, Illinois, formerly of Sigel, Illinois, died at 6:05 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 27, 2000) at the Heartland Christian Village in Neoga.
The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Michael, The Archangel Church in Sigel, Illinois, with the Father Robert L. DeGrand officiating and Sister Pat Theis assisting. Burial will be in the St. Michael Cemetery in Sigel. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with a Wake service held at 7 p.m. at the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home in Neoga.
She was born Dec. 2, 1915 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Clem J. and Mary Eva (Baker) Fearday.
She married Anthony W. Hanfland on Nov. 24, 1938 in Neoga.
He preceded her in death on May 22, 1989.
Surviving are three sons, Charles Hanfland and wife Janet of Sigel, Illinois, Williams Hanfland and wife Linda of Bloomington, Illinois, and Gerald Hanfland and wife Susan of Sigel, Illinois; one daughter, Mrs. Steve (Linda) Smithson of Minneapolis, Minn.; two brothers, Wilbur "Bill" Fearday of Sigel, Illinois and Ray Fearday of Teutopolis, Illinois; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Schuemacher of Clinton, Maryland and Mrs. Carolyn Knabe of Lake Worth, Florida; and 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Mrs. Hanfland was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the St. Michael, The Archangel Church and Ladies Council of St. Michael's Church, both of Sigel.
Memorials may be made to St. Michael's Parish in Sigel, the Heartland Christian Village in Neoga, or to the donor's choice.
Ray Lane
Raymond Henry "Ray" Lane, age 81, of Mattoon, passed away at 9:04 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2000, at the Mattoon Health Care Center.
Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery.
Ray was born in Wolfe County, Kentucky on December 21, 1918, a son of Henry and Ella Freshwater Lane.
He married Pauline Wingler in 1939.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Lane of Mattoon; two sons, Dr. Larry R. Lane and wife Glenda and Dr. Steven H. Lane, all of Champaign; three grandsons, Dr. Robert Lane and wife Theresa "Teri" of Oak Park, Calif., Mr. Charles Lane and wife Lori of Fresno, Calif., and Dr. William Lane and wife Tanya of Naples, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Genevieve "Genny", Henry and Hunter; and one brother, James Lane and wife Alicia of Oblong.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Lane attended grade school and high school in Robinson, Ill. He received a B.A. from Eastern Illinois University in 1940. Mr. Lane received a Master's degree from the University of Illinois and Specialist In Education degree from Eastern Illinois University.
He started his teaching career at Greenup, Ill. in 1940 as a music teacher for grades 1-12. In 1944, he was inducted into the Navy and served in Special Services. He was discharged in 1946 and became Superintendent of Schools at Toledo, Ill. which became part of Cumberland Unit #77 from 1948-51.
In 1951, he became Superintendent of Unit #40 in Effingham, Ill. After eighteen years, he moved to Mattoon, Ill. and served as Superintendent of Unit #2 Schools for seven years. Following his retirement he worked at Samuel Music Company for several years, which was a continued expression of his love of music. He was also employed by the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mattoon. Ray was a 50-year member of Kiwanis Clubs in Effingham, Toledo and Mattoon, serving as a past president in Toledo and Mattoon. Mr. Lane also belonged to the A.F. and A.M. at Effingham, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Danville, the American Legion Post 88, the N.E.A., I.R.T.A., and Phi Delta Kappa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
