SHELBYVILLE - Leo Roney, 80, of Shelbyville, formerly of Findlay, died at 2:26 a.m. Friday (Aug. 25, 2000) at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
Burial will be in Findlay Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Shelby County, the son of Oscar and Vera Mae Morris Roney.
He married Bonnie Clark in 1941. She died in 1976. He then married Irma Biehler Workman in 1979. She survives.
Also surviving are children, Phileta Coventry of Decatur, Donna Woodard of Moweaqua, Paulette Gregg of Salem, Jay Roney of Shelbyville, Yvonne Bell and Cathy Landreth, both of Mount Zion, Lee Roney of Findlay and Roy Roney of Decatur; sisters Doris Bowers of Decatur, Avis Brent of Arrowsmith, Vera Lu Jeffers of Lakewood and Gail Smith of Shelbyville; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a great-grandchild, two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Roney was a lifelong farmer and member of the First Christian Church of Findlay, the Shelbyville Lodge and the Shelby County Farm Bureau.
Memorials may be made to the Springfield Memorial Hospital Oncology Department (Second Floor East).
Fay Winkler
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. Fay D. (Diller) Winkler, 69, died Thursday, August 24, 2000 in Colorado Springs after a short-term illness.
A memorial service will be held this Thursday, August 31, 2000 at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston on 311 7th Street (just off the square) with the Rev. Susan T. Reichenberg officiating.
She was born in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Walter and Anna Diller, both deceased, she will be buried next to them in Dillsburg on Sept. 9th.
Survivors include three children, Tony Winkler of Austin, Texas, Rick Winkler of Charleston, and Kim Gaston of Colorado Springs; five brothers, three sisters and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Fay lived in the Charleston area 37 years. In her earlier years, she was active in Farm Bureau Women's Committee and 4-H as well as the ABWA and First Presbyterian Church. She worked 25+ years of civil service, most of the time at the Coles County ASCS office.
Upon her retirement in 1996, she then moved to Grand Rapids, Mich. for a short time, then on to Colorado Springs, Colo. In her retirement years she gave her time to her grandchildren, family, volunteer work and the church.

Joe Devall
MATTOON - Joe W. Devall, 85, of Mattoon died at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000) at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home.
A graveside service was heldat the Ruffner Cemetery, east of Greenup, with military rites. The Barkley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Aug. 9, 1915, in Greenup, the son of Harlow and Pearl (Williams) Devall.
He married Marjorie M. Larson in 1958; she died in 1996.
Survivors include a sister, Frances Shafer of Jewett, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Devall was retired from the Department of Energy and was a Navy WW II veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor.
Walter F. Lang
CHARLESTON, IL - Walter Lang, age 81, of Charleston, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2000 at home. Burial will be at the Roselawn Cemetery with full military rites.
Walter was born October 8, 1918, in Charleston, Illinois, a son to Oliver and Lottie (Hanley) Lang.
He married Mildred Arlene Drumm in 1940.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Charleston; two sons, and one daughter, Dale E. Lang and his wife Maudie, of Ashmore, Illinois, Max L. Lang and his wife Patricia, Phyllis K. Madlem and her husband Donald all of Charleston, Illinois; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jesse Lang, Donald Lang and Oliver (Jr.) Lang all of Charleston, Illinois. Also one special cousin, raised by family, Ruth Marie Decker and husband John of Russell Springs, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lawrence Lang.
Walter served his country during World War II, in the Army, stationed in Panama and worked for the Charleston Stone Company
for 35 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was a lifelong member of the VFW and belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 841. Walter had a passion for the old antique steam engines and went to many of the shows in and out of the area.
His hobbies included making miniature steam engines, gardening and rebuilding Cub tractors.
He was a devoted husband and father, always there when someone needed him. He will always be remembered for the tremendous love he had for his family.
Memorials may be made to the Coles County Chapter of the American Heart Association.
Bertha Malone
CASEY - Bertha E. Malone, 85, of Casey died at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 23, 2000) at the Simple Blessings Senior Living Center.
Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Annapolis.
She was born Dec. 8, 1914, in Kirk, Colo., the daughter of Charles B. and Alpha Miller Kern.
She married Clarence Malone in 1945; he survives.
Other survivors include three brothers, Lee Kern of Mount Vernon, Mo., Eldridge Kern of Prescott, Ariz., and Leo Kern of Dennison, Texas; two sisters, Fern Taylor of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Marie Scott of Springfield, Mo., and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by one daughter.
Mrs. Malone had taught kindergarten for 20 years at the Golf Elementary School in Evanston before her retirement.
Memorials may be made to the Word of Life Church in Casey.
Lena M. Evans
MATTOON - Lena M. Evans, age 83, of Mattoon, passed away at 5:23 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Interment will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery.
Lena M. Evans was born August 29, 1916, at Scotland, Illinois, a daughter of Thomas and Gretta Poe.
She married Robert D. Evans, he preceded in death in 1991.
She is survived by a son, Richard Evans and his wife Madonna of Mattoon; grandchildren, Kimberly Smith and Robert Evans of Mattoon and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
David McGee
David Estey McGee, age 41, of Windsor, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2000.
Burial with military rites by the V.F.W. Post 4325 will be in the Iola Cemetery.
David was born in Mattoon on June 15, 1959, a son of Robert H. and Donna K. Smith McGee.
He married Sonia M. Parish on August 5, 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Sonia McGee of Windsor; two sons, Todd R. L. McGee of Columbus, Ohio and Trenton McGee of Lovington; one stepson, Gregory J. Laue of Windsor; two stepdaughters, Jennifer M. Olds and Blythe A. Laue, both of Windsor; his mother, Donna McGee of Mattoon; four brothers, Michael W. McGee of Mattoon, Carl O. McGee and wife Yukiko of Bremerton, Washington, Robert C. McGee of Mattoon and Mark L. McGee of Bloomington.
David was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Nicholas Scott "Nick" McGee.
Mr. McGee was a U.S. Navy veteran serving for eight years.
David was an electrician with the I.B.E.W. Local 146. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 4325 and a member of the Masonic Lodge 260.
Dale Miller
FORREST - Dale LaVern Miller, 57, of Forrest, died at 7:46 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 22, 2000) from injuries received in a vehicle accident.
Burial will be in the Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth.
He was born March 12, 1943, in Fairbury, the son of Gerald and Phoebe Miller.
He married Virginia Johnson in 1964; she survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Phoebe Miller of Chatsworth; three sons, Michael Miller of Charleston, Matthew Miller of Campus and Marcus Miller at home; one daughter, Michelle Honegger of Forrest; one brother, Gail Miller of Sugar Grove; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Miller was a farmer and leader of Chatsworth Junior Farmers 4-H.
He was member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chatsworth and a board member of Charlotte Township and Charlotte Farmers Grain.
He was a National Guard veteran.
Memorials may be made to the Chatsworth Jr. Farmers 4-H Club or the National Junior Swine.
Mary Winings
BETHANY - Mary Doehring Winings, 57, of Bethany, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 22, 2000) at the Sullivan Health Care Center, Sullivan.
She was born Oct. 7, 1942, in Shelby County, the daughter of Vernie Lloyd and Aimee Claytor Cutler Doehring.
She married Lee Roy Winings in 1991; he survives.
Also surviving are her mother, Aimee Lowe of Vandalia, Mo.; one son, Evan Clarke Pedigo of Sullivan; one stepson, Roy Lee Winings of Mattoon; two daughters, Kim Pedigo of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Monica Louise Kovach of Fayetteville, Ga.; one brother, Maurice Harlin Doehring of Sullivan; two sisters, Iva Jean Paris of Belmont, N.Y., and Esther Jayne Robinson of Laddonia, Mo.; three stepsisters, Louise Bottrell of Walker, Minn., Linda Beavers of Lufkin, Texas, and Virginia Bolin of Mattoon; one grandchild; and seven step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Clarke Lowe.
Mrs. Winings was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Sullivan.
