FINDLAY - Shirley Mae Plumb, 58, of Findlay, died at 6:35 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 21, 2000) at her residence.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Findlay. Burial will be in the Findlay Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today.
She was born Oct. 29, 1941, in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of Harold and Elizabeth Gilbert Byrley.
She married Robert Plummer; he died in 1970. She married Willie Ray Plumb in 1971; he survives.
Also surviving are five sons, Donald and Jerry Plumb, both of California, David and Jeff Plummer, both of Findlay, and Eddie Plumb of Windsor; two daughters, Joy Wells of Shelbyville and Susan Grandfield of Decatur; one brother, Jim Byrley of Ohio; two sisters, Pearl Jean Winnings of Findlay and Dottie Byrley of Ohio; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her father, stepfather, one son, two brothers and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Plumb was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Shelbyville and had been employed at the Findlay Marina for 20 years and at the QIK-N-EZ in Shelbyville for one year.
Memorials may be made to the Medical Fund for Shirley Plumb, c/o the Shelby County State Bank of Findlay.
Lawrence Schwerdt
SIGEL, IL - Lawrence "Larry" R. Schwerdt, 64, of Sigel, IL, died at 6:47 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 20, 2000) at St. John's Medical Center, Springfield, IL.
The funeral will be 10 A.M. Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) at St. Michael, The Archangel Church, Sigel, IL, with Fr. Robert DeGrand, of Sigel, IL, officiating assisted by Sr. Pat Thies, of Neoga, IL.
Burial with military rites by Sigel American Legion Post #1134, will be in the St. Michael Cemetery, Sigel, IL. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday (Sept. 22, 2000) with a wake service at 6:30 P.M. at the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home, Neoga, IL.
He was born February 1, 1936, in Sigel, IL, the son of Harry and Dorothy (Ludwig) Schwerdt.
He married Rosemary (Whitley) Shick on June 24, 1967 in Mattoon, IL; she died on February 21, 1996.
Survivors include a son, Larry A. Schwerdt and wife Alicia of Effingham, IL; step sons, Roger Shick and wife Christina of Lake Sarah, IL, Steve Bapp and wife Janice of Metcalf, IL; stepdaughter, Mrs. Don (Judy) Jansen of Effingham, IL; sisters, Mrs. John (Laverne "Bonnie") Kortte of Sigel, IL, Mrs. Rex (Emma) Harmon of Sigel, IL, Mrs. Clark (Marilyn) Bolin of Rio Dell, Calif., Miss. Rita Schwerdt of Sigel, IL, Mrs. Harold (Margaret "Peggy") Ballinger of Trowbridge, IL; and six grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Schwerdt was a construction worker, Curtis-Jensen Harvestore.
He was a United States Army veteran and a member of the St. Michael, The Archangel Church of Sigel, IL.
Joseph Sullivan
Joseph William Sullivan, age 71, of Decatur, died Wednesday, September 20, in his home, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 23, 10:00 A.M., at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with graveside services immediately following at Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, September 22, from 6 to 8 P.M., at Brintlinger's Funeral Home, Decatur, IL.
Mr. Sullivan was a deacon and active member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Although retired, he worked part-time for Excel Telecommunications. Previously, he had been co-owner of J & S Drywall, was an International Harvester dealer and a private pilot. Flying was one of his greatest joys. During the last few years he was enrolled at Richland Community College where he was studying computer programming.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and married Violet Nichols on New Year's Eve in 1952. Together, they have five children.
Surviving are his wife Violet; son Joe Sullivan and wife Debbie of Decatur; daughter Vesta Sullivan Gray and husband Dan of Baltimore, MD; daughter Cathy Glosser of Decatur; son John Sullivan of South Bend, IN; son Jerry Sullivan and wife Debbie of Decatur; he leaves nine grandchildren who were the light of his life; sister Mary Kastl and husband Francis of Mattoon, IL; brothers Tom Sullivan and wife Rose of Champaign, IL and Raymond Sullivan of Pueblo, CO.; along with many nieces and nephews.
We were all blessed and thankful to have had him in our lives. He leaves us not to mourn but to cherish very fond memories made together.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Alice Sullivan; four brothers and two sisters.
While undergoing treatment at John Hopkins Medical Institute in Baltimore, Joe had the opportunity to meet the world-renowned, Dr. Benjamin Carson, one of his favorite and most inspiring authors. Elizabeth Cook
MARTINSVILLE - Elizabeth Cook, 93, of Martinsville, died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 19, 2000) at Birchwood Nursing Home, Casey.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Greenwell Funeral Home, Martinsville. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born March 1, 1907, in Casey, the daughter of James and Clara Dill Davidson.
She married Russell Cook in 1926; he died in 1989.
Surviving are two sons, James Cook of DeLeon Springs, Fla., and William Cook of West Union; one daughter, Beverly Williams of West Union; one brother, Chuck Davidson of Martinsville; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, two brothers, one sister and three grandchildren.
Harry Dean "Bud" Diepholz
Harry Dean "Bud" Diepholz, age 69, of Mattoon, passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2000, at his residence.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the St. John's Lutheran Church with the Reverend Bruce D. Osborne officiating assisted by the Reverend Delton Nack.
Burial with military rites by the V.F.W. Post 4325 will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. this evening at the Schilling Funeral Home.
Bud was born in Gays on March 25, 1931, a son of Arthur William Harman and Drucilla Louise Kull Diepholz.
He married W. ImoJean "Jean" Rinehart on January 28, 1955.
Survivors include his wife W. ImoJean "Jean" Diepholz of Mattoon; three sons, Brad D. Diepholz and wife Karen of Phoenix, Arizona, Kris M. Diepholz of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Kurt S. Diepholz of Mattoon; one daughter, Jean M. Reid and husband Robert of Mattoon; four brothers, Delbert Diepholz and wife Freda, Howard Diepholz and wife Brenda, Arthur "Junior" Diepholz and Kenneth Diepholz and wife Ann, all of Mattoon; and four grandchildren, Scott Reid and Jennifer Reid, both of Mattoon and Clark Diepholz and Harry Dean Diepholz II, both of Phoenix, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur Diepholz and Maurice Diepholz and one sister, Lawanda "Sis" Franks.
Mr. Diepholz was a U.S. Army veteran. Bud was a former owner/operator of the D-Z Sports store. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, the Eagles, the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
Memorials may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church or to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Regional Cancer Center.

Ruby Pierce
CHARLESTON, IL - Ruby R. Pierce, age 84, of Charleston, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2000 with Reverend Bill Boaz and Pastor Mike Stallons officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. this (Thursday) evening. Services and visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston. Interment will follow the services at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston.
Ruby was born February 5, 1916, in Ashmore Township, Coles County, Illinois, the daughter of Ernest R. and Ethel (Williams) Wright.
She married Charles K. Pierce on March 18, 1936 in Marshall, Illinois. He survives.
Other survivors include a son, Bob Pierce and his wife Wanda; one daughter, Willetta Jones and her husband Phil, all of Charleston; three grandchildren, Jeff Jones and his wife Amy and Teresa Uphoff, all of Charleston and Kim Ritchhart and her husband Scott of Lincoln, Illinois; five great grandchildren, Jamie Uphoff, Heidi Uphoff, Dakota Jones and Spencer Jones, all of Charleston and Casey Ritchhart of Lincoln; one brother, Rex Wright and his wife Linda of Tuscola, Illinois; one step sister, Esther Messmore of South Bend, Indiana; one step brother, Minor Campbell of California, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents; one sister, Georgia McVickers; two brothers, Charles Wright and Wayne Wright; her stepmother, Gladys Campbell Wright and one stepsister, Dorothy Holmes.
Ruby was a member of the East Harrison Street Church of God. She was a retiree from Brown Shoe Company after having reached twenty-five years of service. Her family was very special to her; she loved her children and grandchildren and also was mother to her three younger brothers. She enjoyed painting, gardening, flowers and music.

Dr. James Ammons
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. - Dr. James Paul Ammons, 80, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., formerly of Humboldt, died Sept. 1, 2000, at his residence.
A memorial service was conducted at the Martin Funeral Home in Clanton Ala., with the Rev. Torbell officiating. Burial was in the family plot.
He was born June 20, 1920, in Humboldt, a son of Frank and Lutie Ammons.
He and his wife Kathryn Virginia were married in 1941; she died in 1976.
Surviving are two sons, Ronnie Ammons of Pelham, Ala., and Michael Ammons of Carterville, Ga.; one daughter, Diane Green of Navarre, Fla.; two sisters, Vineta Stuart of Hot Springs, Ark. and Leota Partlow of Arcola; three grandchildren.Dr. Ammons had worked several years for Illinois Central Railroad, he retired as a chiropractor in Clanton, Ala. He was an Army veteran of WW II and member of the Chiropractic Association.
