CASEY - Edna S. Dodds, 94, of Casey, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 7, 2000) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey.
Burial will be in the Washington Street Cemetery.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday until service time at the funeral home.
She was born June 2, 1906, in Greenup, the daughter of Jake Walters and Zona Ivens.
She married Porter Dodds in 1929; he died in 1956.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, three brothers and five sisters.
Mrs. Dodds was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church of Casey, the Rebecca Lodge of Casey, Order of Eastern Star and Past Noble Grand Club.
John Edrington
LOVINGTON - John E. Edrington, 76, of Lovington, died at 4:35 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 7, 2000) at his residence.
Arrangements are incomplete at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Lovington.
Catherine Frietsch
CASEY - Catherine May Frietsch, 84, of Casey, died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 7, 2000) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Casey with Father Jeff Grant officiating.
Burial will be in the Washington Street Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born March 24, 1916, in St. Louis, the daughter of Edward and Ursa Pierce Neimeyer.
She married Carl Frietsch in 1940; he died in 1975.Surviving are one stepson, Edward Frietsch of Deer Creek; one stepdaughter, Lavergne Drinkwater of Santa Anna, Calif.; and one sister, Mildred Slusser of Casey.
Mrs. Frietsch was a clerk for Arndts, a manager for Schauz Flower Shop, and an employee of the Wright Flower Shop and the Dairy Bar. She and her husband operated the Amber Inn Restaurant.
She was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Casey, the World War I Casey/Westfield/Martinsville Barracks No. 1873 auxiliary, and Altar and Rosary Society at St. Charles, Mo.
Memorials may be made to the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church or the National Kidney Foundation.
Lewis Hawkins
OAKLAND - Lewis Edgar Hawkins, 75, of rural Oakland, died at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2000) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Taber Funeral Home, Oakland.
There will be no visitation.
He was born April 11, 1925, in Douglas County's Sargent Township, the son of Hervie Arthur and Charlotte Mae Brown Hawkins.
He married Alice Kathleen Doty in 1954; she died in 1998.
Surviving are two daughters, Johnna Holloway of Chelsea, Mich., and Kimberley Bassett of Tuscola; one son, Michael Hawkins of Longview; two brothers, Velda Hawkins of Westfield and Virgil Hawkins of Las Vegas; one sister, Leoma of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Hawkins was a farmer and an Air Force veteran.

Katie Kuhl
ARCOLA - Katie S. Kuhl, 94, of Arcola, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2000) at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola with the Rev. Joseph Allen officiating.
Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The Shrader Funeral Home, Arcola, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 29, 1906, in Wendelin, the daughter of Kilian and Rosa Kuenstler Iffert.
She married Anthony Kuhl in Wendelin in 1926; he died in 1954.
Surviving are three sons, Virgil Kuhl of Ocala, Fla., Paul Kuhl of Payson, Ariz., and Byron Kuhl of Fair Oaks, Calif.; one daughter, Mary Cannon of Decatur, Ala.; one brother, Leo Iffert of Noble; two sisters, Pauline Kessler of Altamont and Josephine Iffert of Berwyn; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, one brother, three sisters and one grandchild.
Mrs. Kuhl had worked as a seamstress at Arcola Collegiate Cap and Gown for 26 years.
She was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church.

Norma Ariens
Norma Christine Ariens, age 76, of Decatur, formerly of Mattoon, passed away at 2:35 p.m. on Monday, September 4, 2000, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Robert C. Clark officiating.
Burial will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
Norma was born in Toledo on November 22, 1923, a daughter of Arthur and Ola Snyder Titus.
She married Leland Otto Ariens on November 9, 1945. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2000.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Ariens and wife Judy of Decatur; one granddaughter, Angela Ariens and one grandson, Ryan Ariens; one great-grandson, Justin Ariens and one great-granddaughter, Brittany Ariens, all of Detroit, Michigan; two brothers, Gary Titus and Everett Titus, both of Greenup; four sisters, Madge Homann of Texas, Phyllis Mingus of Salinas, California, Esther Oakley of Jewett and Retha Brock of Mattoon.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Sedgwick.
Mrs. Ariens was a homemaker.

Merle Baugher
Merle Ruth Baugher, 79, of Mattoon formerly of Windsor, died at 6:20 p.m. Sunday (September 3, 2000) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles Co. IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday (September 7, 2000) in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor with the Dr. E.E.Elliott and Rev. Lana Robyne officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Windsor Cemetery.
Merle was born March 13, 1921 in Wayne Co., IL the daughter of William Lloyd and G. Marie Faulkner Anderson.
Merle married Oliver Eugene (Beanie) Baugher December 31, 1944 in St. Charles, MO and he preceded her in death September 19, 1999.
She was a teacher in a country school before taking a position at the Windsor Grade School. She was the third generation of teachers in her family.
Merle was involved in community service as well as being active in the Windsor United Methodist Church. She served the church by teaching of an adult Sunday school class and being active in Methodist Women for many years.
Her greatest achievement was being a good wife to Beanie, good mother to her children and a great grandmother. She was always there when she was needed. After living in the Windsor community for most of her life, Merle and Gene moved from their picturesque farm home to Mattoon in 1998.
Surviving are her children James M. Baugher and wife Mary Beth of Bloomington, Anne Castagna and husband Jim of Toulon and Cynthia Voudrie and husband Greg of Mattoon; sister Gladys Anderson Marshall of Bald Head Island, NC; sister-in-law Carol Ann Anderson of Windsor; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Merle was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son John Eugene, brother Bill Anderson and sister Gloria Anderson.
Memorials may be made to the Windsor United Methodist Church or the First Baptist Church of Mattoon.
C.A. Brault
MATTOON - C.A. "Bing" Brault, 76, of Mattoon, died at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with the Rev. Herman Niebrugge officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Plankington, S.D., the son of Leo and Mary Brault.
He married Pat Benolt in 1945; she died in 1976. He married Mary Ferris in 1981; she died in 1995.
Surviving are one son, Steve Brault; one daughter, Chris Armstrong of Mattoon; one sister, Janice Balser of Joliet; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brault was an official of the mechanics department for the Illinois Central Railroad.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and an army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Charlotte Kitchen
DANVILLE - Charlotte Jean Kitchen, 75, of Danville, died at 9:12 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at Provena USMC, Sager campus.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating.
The Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation, Danville, is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Danville, the daughter of Charles and Georgia Michaels Unger.
She married William Kitchen; he died in 1989.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce Reiss of Canton, Miss., and Roger Lehmann of Charleston; one daughter, Stacey Kitchen of Danville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kitchen served in the WAVEs during World War II.
