ARCOLA - Katie S. Kuhl, 94, of Arcola, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2000) at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.

Richard John "Rick" Siford
MATTOON - Richard John "Rick" Siford, 53, of Mattoon, passed away at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at his residence after a long, hard battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2000 at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend Robert C. Clark officiating.
Interment with military rites will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Richard was born March 27, 1947 at Chicago, a son of Alden "Al" and Ruth Virginia Thompkins Siford.
He married Mary Ellen Goetzfridt July 3, 1972, she survives.
Also surviving are his father: Alden "Al" Siford and wife Jeanne of Mattoon; his mother: Ruth Dye and husband Gene of Mattoon; daughter: Anita Rae Siford and fiance Richard Story of Gays; son: Russell Jabs and wife Laura of Mattoon; two sisters: Linda Milligan and husband Jerry of Mattoon and Terry Betty of Mattoon; a brother: Max Betty of Mattoon; grandchildren: Brianna and Amber Siford of Gays; Austin, Ashley, and Andrea Jabs of Mattoon; Shelby and Trevor Godfrey of Mattoon. Nieces and nephews: Steve, Greg and Lisa Trumbold, Tammy Wiessing and Kim and Angie Milligan; and Linda's foster children: Jayvar and Elijah.
He was preceded in death by two sons.
Richard worked at G.E. from 1969 to 1972, Yellow Freight from 1972 to 1988, and was self-employed at Car Wash Plus in Mattoon.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968.
He attended First Christian Church, and was a member of Mattoon American Legion Post 88, and Mattoon Eagles' Lodge 3438.
Gary Stewart
CHARLESTON - Gary Lee Stewart, 30, of Charleston, died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) in Pleasant Grove Township near Lincoln Log Cabin State Park.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at the Caudill-King Funeral Home with the Rev. John Best officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with military rites by the Charleston VFW. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Caudill-King Funeral Home.
He was born Nov. 21, 1969, in Charleston, the son of Duane and Dawn Ingram Stewart.
Surviving are his father, Duane Stewart, and stepmother, Donna Stewart, both of Charleston; his mother, Dawn Brophy, and stepfather, Edward Brophy, of Glendale, Ariz.; two brothers, John Stewart of Charleston and Joe Stewart of Oakland; one stepsister, Misty Smith Jackson of Charleston; and grandparents, Leora Stewart of Charleston, and Donald and Clella Ingram of Toledo.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather.
Mr. Stewart was an army veteran of the National Guard.
He worked at Arkwright Inc. and was a volunteer for the Lincoln Fire Protection District for many years.
He attended the Bible Center Church.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 1300.

DECATUR - Norma Ariens, 75, of Decatur, formerly of Mattoon, died at 2:35 p.m. Monday (Sept. 4, 2000) at her residence.

MATTOON - Clair A. Brault, 76, of Mattoon, died at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Wilma Carrell
GREENUP - Wilma A. Carrell, 83, of Greenup, died at 12:05 p.m. Monday (Sept. 4, 2000) at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bishop Funeral Home, Greenup, with the Rev. Marvin Oakley officiating.
Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Greenup. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Vevay Park, the daughter of John and Angeline Stark Philippi.
She married Don Carrell in 1957; he survives.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Carrell worked at Ettelbrick Shoe Company for more than 30 years.
She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post 4598.
Larry Farris
KANSAS - Larry D. Farris, 34, of Kansas, died at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall with Larry Holensbe officiating.
Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery, rural Paris. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
He was born July 9, 1966, in Charleston, the son of J. Max Farris and Dorothy Monk Farris.
Surviving are his parents of Kansas; special friend, Alice Ellington of Charleston; two sisters, Lavonna Manning and Pamella Malone, both of Paris; three half brothers, Michael Farris of Westfield, John Farris of West Union and Dana Farris of Vancouver, Wash.; one half sister, Nancy Kirkpatrick of Marshall; his grandmother, Joye Monk of Marshall; and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and his maternal grandparents.
Mr. Farris was a carpenter and a member of the Martinsville Christian Church.
Marie Marler
TUSCOLA - Marie L. Marler, 92, of Tuscola, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola, with the Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Tuscola cemetery.
She was born July 17, 1908, in southern Illinois, the daughter of Charles M. and Etta A. Jared Jenkins.
She married Frank M. Marler in 1927; he died in 1992.
Surviving are one son, Charles Marler of Tuscola; one daughter, Rose Marie Lubitz of Honolulu; two brothers, Robert Jenkins of Hobart, Ind., and Wilbur Jenkins of Harrison, Ariz.; one sister, Irmal Sullivan of Charleston; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Marler was a longtime member of the Tuscola United Church of Christ, and a member of the Tuscola Chapter 44 Order Eastern Star and the Tuscola United Church of Christ Quilters Club.
She was cafeteria manager at Tuscola Community High School from 1949 until her retirement.

Joseph Ray
TRENTON, Mo. - Joseph H. Ray, 68, of Trenton, Mo., formerly of Charleston, died at 2:25 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Trenton with Father Edgar Probstfield officiating.
The Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home, Trenton, Mo., is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Feb. 23, 1932, in Springfield, the son of J.H. and Clementine Corcoran Ray.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon, of Trenton, Mo.; two sons, Eric Ray of Owensville, Mo., and Jeff Ray of Charleston; one sister, JoAnn Harmon of Bethalto; four brothers, Louis of Mt. Vernon, Robert of St. Louis, Ralph of Decatur and Paul of Sheridan, Mont.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Mr. Ray was an Air Force veteran and worked as a Medical Technologist in Mattoon; Oakley, Kan.; Marlette, Mich.; Sturgis, Mich.; Gainesville, Texas; and Lusk, Wyo. He retired in 1998 from Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, Mo.
A. Lorene Sears
ARCOLA - Mrs. A. Lorene Sears, 84, of Coal City, formerly of Arcola, died at 5:00 A.M. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000 at her residence in Coal City.
The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Friday, Sept. 8, 2000 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola with Father Joseph Allen as officiant.
Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday with rosary at 8:00 P.M. at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola.
Mrs. Sears was born Nov. 4, 1915, in Thomasboro, a daughter of Fred and Pearl Keith Maier.
She married Paul Sears in Arcola on Oct. 16, 1935.
He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1998.
Survivors include her son, Paul Martin Sears and wife Diane of Coal City; daughter, Rita J. Sears of San Francisco, California; 2 granddaughters, Jeannie Colbert and husband Jason of Lombard, Stephanie Spanbauer and husband Greg of Coal City; 3 great grandchildren, Samantha and Joey Spanbauer and Lauren Colbert; one brother, Kenny Maier of Arcola; and one sister, Helen Fortney of Marietta, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Francis Maier.
Mrs. Sears was a homemaker and a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Arcola where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and had served as secretary.
She had a love of flowers, blue spruce trees, and birds, especially purple martins, finches and hummingbirds.
