Edna Irvin

96 year old McLeansboro resident, Mrs. Edna Irvin, died at 10:27 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 20th, 2005 at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro. She had worked at the former Elder Manufacturing Company, and was a cook at McLeansboro High School and the Hamilton County Senior Citizens Center for many years.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Linda Irvin of Broughton; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Irvin were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22nd at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial in Oddfellows Cemetery at McLeansboro.

Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21st at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

Thelma M. Dulany

89 year old Wayne City resident, Thelma M. Dulany, died at 2:48 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19th, 2005 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Il.

Surviving are a son, Everett Dulany of Wayne City; 4 brothers, Dale Goldman and Dean Goldman both of Wayne City, Cyril Goldman of Mt. Vernon, Il. and William Herb Goldman of Carlyle, Il.; a sister, Fern Baldridge of Texas; 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Thelma M. Dulany were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22nd at the Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City. Burial in Thomason Cemetery.

Visitation was after 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21st at the Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City.

Dr. C. K. Shannon

104 year old Mt. Carmel resident, Dr. C. K. Shannon, died Friday, Feb. 19th, 2005 at Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel. He was a graduate of the St. Louis School of Dentistry, and was in practice from 1924 until 1979 in Mt. Carmel.

Survivors include his wife Oressa Lambert Shannon; a daughter, Cleo Belcher of Mt. Carmel; 3 step-sons, Bill Haeberle and Frank Haeberle both of Bloomington, Indiana and Leo Lambert of Mt. Carmel; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Dr. C. K. Shannon were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22nd at the Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel. Burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation was from noon Tuesday, Feb. 22nd until the time of service at the Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Kenneth George Legg

80-year-old Mount Vernon, Ill. resident, Kenneth George Legg died on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Mount Vernon Care Center. He was a WW II Veteran and had retired from Airtex Products in Fairfield.

Survivors include two sons, Ed Legg of Effingham and Ervin Legg of Mason, Il., three daughters, Diane Paxton of Opdyke, Dorothy Venters of Fairfield and Donna Venters of LaClede, Il., a brother, James "Jim" Legg of Fairfield; a sister, Alberta Walters of Fairfield; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Kenneth George Legg were 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Oak Hill Cemetery at Taylorville, Ill., with military rites at the gravesite.

Visitation was from 3 til 5 Sunday evening at the Johnson Funeral Hom ein Fairfield.

Albert Fleming

84-year-old Fairfield resident, Albert Fleming died at 7:10 Thursday evening, Feb. 17, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lake St. Louis, Mo. He was a retired Airtex employee and an Army WW II veteran.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Crawshaw of Lake St. Louis, Mo., and Rhonda Owen of Wayne City; two sons, Russell Fleming of Galesburg, Il., and Gary Fleming of Mount Vernon, Ind., and a special friend, Elzora Keen of Wayne City; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Albert Fleming were at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20th at the Archie L. Sanders Chapel in Wayne City. Burial in Thomason Cemetery with military rites at the graveside.

Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19th at the Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Betty Ann Smith

71-year-old Fairfield resident, Betty Ann Smith died at 10:35 Sunday evening, May 1, 2005 at Way-Fair Restorium in Fairfield.

Survivors include her husband, Homer Smith; a son, Kenneth Smith of Fairfield; an adopted son, Jim Colclasure of Wisconsin; a daughter, Debra Kay Weber of Carmi; three brothers, Eber, Bernard and Donnie Lee, all of Fairfield; five sisters, Mae McClellan, Mildred Grove, Lois Coffelt and Treva Lee of Fairfield and Carolyn Byrns of Mount Carmel; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Betty Ann Smith were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at the First Assembly of God Church in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Visitaton was from 6 til 8 Tuesday evening, May 3, at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield, then 1 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the church.

Doris Houchins

86 year old Doris Houchins of Albion died at 7:40am Sunday, May 1st, 2005, at Rest Haven Manor in Albion.

Survivors include several nieces.

Funeral services for Doris Houchins were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4 at Nale's FuneralHome in Albion with burial in Graceland Cemetery.

Visitation was from 5 til 7 Tuesday evening, May 3, at Nale's Funeral Home in Albion.

Eric D. Bryant

5 month old infant Eric D. Bryant of West Salem died at 9:54am Saturday, April 30th, 2005, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

He is survived by his parents Lance Eric Bryant and Johanna Hobson; maternal grandparents Malinda Hobson and Delbert Hobson both of Carmi; paternal grandparents Doug and Christine Bryant of Albion; maternal great grandparents William and Ada Littlepage of West Salem; Paternal great grandparents Troy and Almedia Bryant of Harrisburg; and Maternal great great grandparents Ellsworth LaMar of Hazelton, IN and Mildred Littlepage of Owensville, IN.

Graveside services for Eric D. Bryant were at 11:30am Tuesday, May 3rd, at Zion United Methodist Cemetery in West Salem with burial to follow.

Visitation was from 10-11am Tuesday at the Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem.

Ingram Funeral Home of West Salem was in charge of the arrangements.

Charles E. "Chuck" Swanigan

51-year-old former Fairfield resident, Charles E. "Chuck" Swanigan of Newburgh, IN died at Sunday, May 24, 2005 [Note: a relative writes that Mr. Swanigan's correct date of death is April 24, 2005.] in Baghdad, Iraq. He worked in security operations for DynCorp International and was retired from the US Army after 21 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, JoLynn Bunting-Swanigan; a daughter, Kelly Swanigan of Fremont, OH; five sons, Cody & Zachary of Newburgh, IN, Charles & Christopher Swanigan of Fremont, OH, and Jeremy Swanigan of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Sherry Rhodes & Deloris Gallagher both of Fremont, OH; a brother, Carl Swanigan of Fremont, OH, and six grandchildren.

Funeral services for Charles E. "Chuck" Swanigan were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 3 at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Visitaiton was from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield.

A memorial service was held Monday, May 2 at the 1st Christian Church in Newburgh, IN from 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice Center, 610 e. Walnut St., Evansville, IN.

Louise Janette Trotter

86-year-old Dahlgren resident, Louise Janette Trotter died at 9:40 Wednesday evening, April 27, 2005, in the Casey Care Center at Mount Vernon, Ill.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Hook of Dahlgren, a son, Rodney Trotter of Dahlgren, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and a brother, Herbert Gage of McLeansboro.

Funeral services for Louise Janette Trotter were at 11 a.m. Saturdy, April 30, at the Dahlgren Methodist Church with burial in the Oddfellows Cemetery at Dahlgren.

Visitation was from 6 til 8 Friday evening, April 29, at the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren.

Deneen Kennett

85-year-old Fairfield resident, Deneen Kennett died at 10:50 Wednesday night, April 27, 2005 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. He had been a machinist at Airtex Products in Fairfield. A WW II Veteran, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Mr. Kennett had served as Commander of the VFW Post 4535 in Fairfield from 1972-1973. He had also served two terms on the Fairfield City Council.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene Kennett of Fairfield; sons, Gary Kennett of Riverside, Ohio and Jerry Kennett of Apopka, Florida; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Deneen Kennett were at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Johnson Funeral Hom ein Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Visitation was from 6 til 8 Friday evening, April 29, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Dorian Jay Smith

64-year-old Nashville, Tennessee resident, Dorian Jay Smith died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at his home in Nashville.

A native of Ellery, he is survived by his mother, Vernelle Smith of Fairfield; a son, Eric Smith of New Rochelle, New York; a daughter, Deidre Decker of Wentzville, Mo.; five sisters, Jenny Schmid of Three Rivers, Calif., Linda Horton of San Jose, Calif., Nancy Smith of Fairfield; June Stock of Marion, Ill., and Carol Warren of New Albany, Ind. Two grandchildren also survive.

Memorial services for Dorian J. Smith were at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at the Bethel First United Methodist Church near Ellery, with burial of ashes in the Bethel Cemetery. There was no visitation.

The Johnson Funeral Home of Fairfield was in charge of all the arrangements.
