Family and baseball were synonymous with Ken. He coached numerous youth leagues including Charleston's Senior Babe Ruth and Marshall's American Legion teams, Kansas Little League and the Charleston-Mattoon Twins.

In baseball circles throughout east Central Illinois, Ken was a giant. However, his love of baseball was secondary to that of his love for his family and those he coached.
Linda and their four children, Ken III, Jeremy, Jason and Kimberly were his most valuable teammates, supporting his passion for baseball and including his players as a part of the Coffey family.
Ken was employed as a Construction Project Coordinator in the Physical Plant at Eastern Illinois University.
