Strasburg, Illinois - Darlene R. Fortkamp, 57, of Effingham, formerly of Strasburg, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2001 in her residence.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg with Rev. Paul McGhghy, Rev. Michael Mohr and Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating.
Visitation from 4-8 p.m. Friday in the fellowship hall of the church and one hour before service time Saturday.
Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Strasburg.

Mrs. Fortkamp was born on September 7, 1943 in Mattoon, the daughter of Donald W. and Geneva E. Gust Shafer.
She was a graduate of Windsor High School Class of 1961 and Lake Land College as a registered nurse.
Her nursing career included working as an EMT for the Windsor Ambulance Service, LPN at Shelby Memorial Hospital, Registered Nurse at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham and Director of Nurses at Heartland Christian Village, Neoga.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg.
She married Rev. Gary Fortkamp on February 2, 1963.
Surviving are her husband; son, Tim Fortkamp and wife Melissa of Newton; grandchildren, Christopher, Brittany and Briar Fortkamp of Newton; mother, Geneva "Joe" Wirth and husband Dale of Mattoon; brothers, Albert Shafer and wife Sudy of Windsor and Ralph Shafer and wife Vicki of Mattoon; and sister, Lou Ann Butler and husband Ted of Villa Grove.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald W. Shafer.
Harold Kingston
WINDSOR - Harold E. (Speedy) (Shorty) Kingston, 66, of Windsor died at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday (February 21, 2001) at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Bethel Cemetery, Okaw Township, Shelby County, IL with Rev. Richard Eident officiating.
Military rites will be performed by the VFW Post 4829 Shelby County Firing Squad.
Visitation will be from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor.
He was born July 7, 1934 in Rose Township, Shelby County, IL the son of William Lester (Sandy) an Faye Launies Kingston.
He was retired from Blaw-Knox in Mattoon working 36 years.
He served in the Sea Bees of the US Navy.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He married Carolyn Budds October 19, 1959 in Taylorville.
Surviving are his wife Carolyn; son, Harold (Doug) Kingston of Windsor; daughters, Gina Szachnitowski and husband Bruce of Windsor and Vickie Williams and husband Terry of Windsor; his mother, Faye Flesner of Windsor; one sister, Shirley McDaniels and husband Nelson of Aurora; seven granddaughters; two step-grandsons and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his father.

NEW LONDON, Texas - Mary Elizabeth Linder, 81, of New London, Texas, died at 5:55 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001) at Sunshine Nursing Home, New London, Texas.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Rusk County Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Earl Duggens officiating.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Borrows Overton Funeral Home in Overton, Texas.
She was born May 22, 1919, in Illinois, the daughter of Riley and Nora Stewart Clossen.
Surviving are one son, Ken Linder of Overton, Texas; one daughter, Wanda Billings of Kilgore, Texas; one brother, Harley Closson of Charleston; two sisters, Norma Mineo of Charleston and Lois Pettyjohn of Stauton; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Linder was a member of the Methodist Church.
Stella Janes Anderson
CHARLESTON - Stella Janes Anderson, age 91, of Charleston, passed away 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at Convalescent Care Center, Mattoon.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 22, 2001 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Boaz officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Stella Janes Anderson was born December 30, 1909, in Cumberland County, Illinois, a daughter of George and Gertie Tanner Janes.
She married Victor C. Anderson May 2, 1931 in Coles County, he preceded her in death February 1, 1976.
Surviving are her children, Jane Anderson and her husband Bruce of Mattoon and Ronald Anderson and his wife Shirley of Charleston.
Also surviving are grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jeff Cox and his wife Kim of Champaign; Rhonda Hostetter and her husband Randy and their children Holly and Chrissy of Mattoon; Angela Fisher and her husband Jay and their children Madison and Megan of Charleston and Ryan Anderson of Effingham.
A brother, T. V. Janes and his wife Lee of Lady Lake, Florida and several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Betty Jane Anderson; a brother, John Janes; and a sister, Bertha Harris.
Mrs. Anderson was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
She attended the Charleston Teacher's College, now Eastern Illinois University and taught thirty-one years in Charleston and Lerna area schools, retiring from Lincoln School in Charleston.
Stella was a member and served as the first Senior Regent in 1950 for Charleston Women of the Moose, was a fifty year member and Past Worthy Matron of Leah Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
She was a member of the local, state and national Retired Teachers Associations; Railroad Trainmen and Railroad Women's Auxiliary of Railroad Trainmen.

PARKVIEW TERRACE, N.D. - Maxwell E. "Ole" Eastman, 76, of Parkview Terrace, N.D., formerly of Johnstown, N.D., died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, N.D.
The Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks, N.D., was in charge of the arrangements.
Burial was in Johnstown Cemetery.
He was born Feb. 7, 1924, in Johnstown, the son of Dan and Clara Thorson Eastman.
Surviving are one brother, James Eastman of Johnstown, N.D., and one sister, Borgie Dickman of Arthur.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Eastman served in the Army and farmed near Johnstown.
Leon Gale
MATTOON - Leon W. Gale, 81, of Mattoon, died at 1:24 p.m. Monday (Feb. 19, 2001) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
A private family service will be conducted at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Groner officiating.
No visitation is planned.
He was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Newark, N.Y., the son of William McKinley and Alta Lenora Downey Gale.
He married Edith Good in 1963; she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Kip Gale of Decatur and Billy Thornhill of Hermitage, Tenn.; four daughters, Demaris Plumly of New York, Sue Morgan of Decatur, Kathy Kelly of Mattoon and Helen Thornhill of Neoga; one sister, Blanche Kusky of Ryback, N.Y.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and one sister.
Mr. Gale was a retired Mattoon city employee.
He was a member of American Legion Post 88 and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was born May 31, 1923 in Toledo IL, the son of John Edward and Ora Dell Ray Jackson.
He married Zada Howard, June 30, 1945, she survives.

One Brother L. F. Jackson and wife Marie of Mattoon.
One sister, Hanna Bly of Shelbyville IL.
Three grandchildren, Jeremy and his wife Emily Hudson of Mattoon, Stacy Hudson and Sarah Jackson both of Mattoon.
Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers and three sisters preceded in death.
Jesse worked at the Oliver Corp. in Shelbyville for over 20 Years.
He also worked for Home Construction in Mattoon for 10 years.
He retired from Trailmobile in Charleston after 11 years of service.

SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. - Barbara Jean Zimmerman Slemmons, 78, of Sun City Center, Fla., formerly of Charleston, died Sunday (Feb. 18, 2001).

She was born April 16, 1924, in Charleston, the daughter of Gene and Lois Zimmerman.
Surviving are one son, Craig Slemmons of Gurnee; one daughter, Sue Ellen DeJohn of Hawthorn Woods; one brother, George Zimmerman; and one sister, Martha Z. Gibson of Paris.
She was preceded in death by one son.
Margaret Cuppy
GREEN CASTLE, Ind. - Margaret "Margie" B. Cuppy, 86, of Greencastle, Ind., formerly of Arcola, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 17, 2001) at her residence.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Shrader Funeral Home, Arcola, with the Rev. Colby Dickinson officiating.
Burial will be in Arcola Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 20, 1914, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Ora and Elizabeth Applegate Arnold Sr.
She married Haden W. Cuppy in 1955; he died in 1993.
Surviving are three brothers, Donald Arnold of Greencastle, Ind., Byron "Barney" Arnold of New Salem, Ind., and Ora "Pete" Arnold Jr. of Cloverdale, Ind., and one sister, Jeannette Arnold of Speedway, Ind.
Mrs. Cuppy was a bookkeeper for Shell Oil Co. in Indianapolis.
She was a member of the West Washington Street United Methodist Church in Indianapolis and attended the Hindsboro United Methodist Church.
She was a 50-year member of the Cumberland, Ind., Order of Eastern Star and a former member of the Jarman Hospital Ladies Auxiliary in Tuscola.

She was born July 19, 1953, in Charlestown, Ind., the daughter of Arthur and Wanda Jean Peck Reynolds.
