SULLIVAN - James M. Leach Sr., 82, of Sullivan, died at 6:15 p.m. Friday (Feb. 16, 2001) at her residence.
The funeral will be 8 p.m. Thursday at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Frank Marshall officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 20, 1918, in Edinburg, the son of Raymond E. and Happy Marie Finch Leach.
He married Marvene Welch in 1968; she survives.
Also surviving are five sons, Raymond of Missouri, Lonnie and Steve, both of Decatur, James Leach Jr. of Mount Zion and Michael of Tuscola; two daughters, Carmen Hector of Mountain View, Ark., and Ellen Standerfer of High Point, N.C.; one sister, Mary Kathryn Walker of Decatur; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Mr. Leach retired from ADM in Decatur after 31 years with the company.
He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Sullivan and American Legion Post No. 68.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Kenneth Norman
MARTINSVILLE -- Kenneth E. "Ken" Norman, 72, of Martinsville, died at 8:25 a.m. Monday (Feb. 19, 2001) at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville with Randy Murphy officiating.
Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, with military rites.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born April 12, 1928, in Farina, the son of Loren and Irene Gamble Norman.
He married Ethel Simon in 1956; she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Don of South Holland, Jim of Davis and Rick of Martinsville; two daughters, Lois Towne of Bangor, Mich., and Debbie Hawley of Watson; three brothers, Loren "Duke" Norman of Escondido, Calif., Richard Norman of Ellenton, Fla., and Bob Norman of Palmetto, Fla.; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son and one sister.Mr.
Norman was a retired building contractor and a Marine veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the Martinsville American Legion Post 515 and former member of the Martinsville City Council.

Ralph Umstot
WEST UNION - Ralph L. Umstot, 87, of rural West Union, died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 18, 2001) at the Paris Healthcare Center in Paris.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel in West Union with the Rev. Alvin Titus, the Rev. Mike Pringle and the Rev. Lewellyn Umstot officiating.
Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, southwest of West Union.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 7, 1914, in Annapolis, the son of Otto and Sylvia McDaniel Umstot.
He married Edith Bayless Umstot in 1937; she died in 1997.
Surviving are one son, the Rev. Lewellyn "Bud" Umstot of Ray, Mich.; one brother, Edison Umstot of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one infant brother.
Mr. Umstot was retired from the Marshall IGA Foodliner, where he had worked many years as the bakery manager.
He was also operations manager at the Farm Service Co. in Marshall.
Thomas Jocelyn
SULLIVAN - Thomas W. "Tommy The Painter" Jocelyn, 94, of Sullivan, formerly of Arthur, died at 5:10 a.m. Friday (Feb. 16, 2001) at Eastview Terrace Nursing Home in Sullivan.
The private family funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Shrader Funeral Home in Arthur with the Rev. Leonard Moore officiating.
Burial will be in Arthur Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral.
He was born Aug. 16, 1906, in Arthur, a son of George B. and Mary E. Pugh Jocelyn.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Jocelyn of Aurora, Colo., and Charlene Elzy of Sullivan; one sister, Elizabeth Blaase of Arthur; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, one daughter and several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Jocelyn was a retired painter.
Frieda L. Lanman
CHARLESTON - Frieda L. Lanman, age 77 of Charleston and a former twelve year resident of Mesa, Arizona, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 18, 2001 at her residence.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23 at the First Baptist Church, 2800 University Drive with Reverend Pat Murphy officiating.
Frieda's children will receive friends and family in the Church Fellowship Hall following the service.
The Committal Service will be held at a later date in Mesa.
Frieda was born August 15, 1923 in Coles County, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond and Ella (Rutan) Snider.
She married Jack Lanman in Charleston on November 26, 1947.
He preceded her in death May 15, 1997.
Survivors include two children, Sue Smyser and her husband Dick of Charleston and Lynn Ryle and her husband Alan of Champaign, Illinois; six grandchildren, Lisa Winnett and her husband Kent, Tisha Snyder, Shannon Armstrong and her husband Jason, Melissa Smyser and her special friend Shane Lewis, all of Charleston and Scott Ryle and Nathan Ryle, both of Champaign; six great-grandchildren, Kassie Winnett, Keisha Winnett, Shelby Gilbert, Mahala Smyser-Lewis, Sequoia Smyser-Lewis and Dawson Armstrong, all of Charleston, and one brother Rufus Snider and his wife Marge of Charleston.
She was preceded by her husband, parents, four brothers and five sisters.
Frieda's church and family were very important to her; she was actively involved in many of her church's activities and was a fifty year plus member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston.
She will lovingly be remembered by her children and their families as "what a mother and grandmother should be".
She was involved in several organizations including the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post 1592 of Charleston, American Business Women's Association and the Illinois Hairdresser's Association.
Many will also remember her as a woman who genuinely enjoyed people and also as the Owner and Operator of Frieda's Beauty Salon, her profession of forty-two years.
Frieda enjoyed crocheting, playing the organ for her own enjoyment and during her retirement swimming and line dancing.
The special love she held for her grandchildren and her passion for crocheting resulted in her making and giving to each of them an afghan.
Frieda's family requests that memorials in honor of her be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Edna Kearney
Edna Opal Kearney, age 80, of Mattoon, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2001 at the Odd-Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon.
Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Jack Woods officiating, assisted by Reverend Robert C. Clark.
Burial will be in the Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Edna was born February 4, 1921, in Idabel, Oklahoma, a daughter of Charleston B. and Ellen Opal Overby Farley.
She married Dale B. Kearney on November 13, 1941.
Survivors include her husband, Dale B. Kearney of Mattoon; two daughters, Jeanne Richards of Champaign and Donna Kay Dodson and husband Brent of Charleston; two brothers, the Rev. James Roger Farley and wife Millie of Liverpool, New York and Jerry D. Farley and wife Mary of Alexandria, Virginia; one sister, Betty Williams and husband J.R. of Montgomery, Ill.; five grandchildren, Chris Richards of Urbana, Kelly Ankenbrand and husband Carl of Hoopeston, Jamie Wright and husband Rich of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, Kyle B. Richards of Champaign, and Tonya Lawyer of Thomasboro; six great-grandchildren, Nathan Phillips, Samantha Phillips and Taylor Ankenbrand, all of Hoopeston, Tyler Wright and Jordan Wright, both of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, and Zoe Lawyer of Thomasboro; two sisters-in-law, Norma Farley of Mt. Vernon and Lenora Farley of Venice, Florida; and seventeen special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one nephew.
Mrs. Kearney was a homemaker and member of the Faith United Methodist Church.
She was very active in the Faith United Methodist Women and held several different offices at various times.
Memorial gifts in her honor may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Elnora Keller
MATTOON - Elnora E. Keller, 84, of Mattoon, passed away at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2001 at Convalescent Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Gray officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Elnora was born March 23, 1916 at Casey, daughter of Raymond L. and Grace L. Cole Brothers.
She married Charles E. Keller May 29, 1953; he died October 25, 1989.
Survivors include a son: Dwaine Throneburg and wife Jenette of Bethany; two sisters: Margie White of Mattoon and Evelyn Mills of Orange, CA; and one brother: Richard Bidwell of Insurness, FL.
Three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one granddaughter.
Elnora was a member of First General Baptist Church of Mattoon, where she had served many years as organist.
She was also a member of the Mattoon Rebekah Lodge and the Mattoon Ladies' of the Moose.
She retired from the U.S. Grant Hotel, where she had worked in housekeeping.
She had formerly worked at the Casey Shoe Factory.

CHARLESTON - Luke Samuel Oakley and Nathan Michael Oakley, infant twins of Brian and Sheri Oakley, of Charleston were born on Thursday, February 15, 2001 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
Luke passed away on Thursday and his brother Nathan passed away on Friday.
Private family graveside services will be conducted by Adams Funeral Chapel today with Pastor Scott Sims officiating.
Luke and Nathan are survived by their parents, Brian and Sheri; a brother, Jakob Daniel Oakley; grandparents, Don and Phyllis Madlem and Don and Florence Oakley; great-grandparents, W.T. "Bill" Madlem, Mildred Lang and Emilie Stanford; aunts and uncles, Kevin and Stacy Madlem, Brian and Andrea Madlem, Kevin and Lori Oakley and four cousins.
The twins were preceded by a great-grandmother, Ruby Madlem, and two great-grandfathers, Ernest Stanford and Walter Lang.
Willis Bennett
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Willis "Pooch" Bennett, 76, of Daytona Beach, Fla., died Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2001) at his residence.
The Baggett and Summers Funeral Home, Daytona Beach, Fla., was in charge of the arrangements.
Surviving are his wife, Tillie Jane "T.J." Bennett; one son, Mark Allen Bennett of Gaithersburgh, Md.; two daughters, Linda Sue Adams of Frederick, Md., and Michelle Rafferty of Centerville, Va.; one brother, James M. Bennett of Charleston; one sister, Mary E. Reid of Alpine, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Bennett was retired as a Special Agent FBI after 25 years of service.
He was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church, Retired FBI Agents Association and the Memorial Hospital auxiliary of Ormond Beach.
He was a Marine veteran of World War II.

She was born Aug. 14, 1946, in Cherry Valley, Ohio, the daughter of Roy and Zella Barr Dabney.
She married Thomas Earl Conrad in 1946; he died in 1968.
Surviving are one brother, Frank Dabney of Yuba City, Calif.; three sisters, Diane Harris of Tulsa, Okla., Carolyn Riddle of Casey and Marilyn Bell of Decatur; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
