Emmett Harte (1 of 2)

CHARLESTON, IL - Emmett Robert Harte, age 92, of Charleston and formerly of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2001 at Hilltop Convalescent Center of Charleston.

Emmett was born May 11, 1908 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of William A. and Bertha (Schultz) Harte.

He married Gladys Kraemer on May 11, 1929 in Milwaukee.

She preceded him in death in June, 1981.

Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Henderson and her husband Walter of Des Plaines, Illinois, Sharon Stretch of Charleston and Janice Harness and her husband James of Rockford, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents, one brother and three sisters.

While living in Charleston, Emmett attended the Bible Center Church.

He was employed by International Harvester as an Assistant Auditor and the Treasury Department of DuPage County, Illinois.

He was a fifty year member of the B.P.O.E. Elks having been a member in Milwaukee and Elmhurst, Illinois.

He was a loving, gentle family man who was deeply respected by his family and friends.

Emmett's family requests that memorials in honor of him be made to the Bible Center Church of Charleston, Illinois or the Donor's favorite charity.

Memorials may be made during the visitation or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

CHARLESTON, IL - Emmett Robert Harte, age 92, of Charleston and formerly of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2001 at Hilltop Convalescent Center of Charleston, Illinois.

Services celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16 with Reverend James Harness officiating.

Visitation will be prior to service from noon until 1 p.m.

Services and visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 66615 W. Oklahoma, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Following the services, interment will be held in Arlington Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Wisconsin.

Adams Funeral Chapel of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.

Paula Oye

ARCOLA - Paula Oye, 78, of Arcola, formerly of Tuscola, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 17, 2001) at the Douglas Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mattoon.

Burial was in Tuscola Centery.

She was born May 7, 1922, in Charlestown, Ind., the daughter of Jesse and Helena (Groskurd) Badger.

She married Edwin Oye in 1951; he died in 1986.

Surviving are one brother, Louis "Bud" Badger of Atwood; two sisters, Winnie Ingram of Arcola and Eva Evans of Otisco, Ind.; and one foster brother, George Parks of Decatur.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters.

Mrs. Oye owned and operated a craft shop in Tuscola and worked for 15 years at the Tuscola IGA.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Arcola and a member of the VFW auxiliary of Villa Grove.

Vernon Thompson

PARIS - Vernon Woodrow Thompson, 83, of Paris, died at 2:43 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind.

The funeral will be 7 p.m. today at the Sutton and Son Funeral Home in Paris.

A graveside service with military rites will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Embarras Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born Dec. 9, 1917, in Vermilion County, the son of Carter Thompson and Elizabeth Marshall McDaniel.

He married Mary Eloise Mullins in 1943; she preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons, Gary Thompson of Oakland and Mike Thompson of Kansas; five daughters, Donna Luttrell of Lebanon, Marsha Hudson and Patty Agan, both of Oakland, Mary Jo Thompson of Paris and Joan Winthrop of Belk, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one grandchild.

Mr. Thompson retired from American Purolator Co.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Mary Fleming

Mary Ellen Fleming, age 82, of Mattoon, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2001 at a Bee Hive Home in Mattoon

Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Jan Kennedy officiating.

Burial will be in the Dodge Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until service time on Thursday afternoon at the funeral home.

Mary was born June 10, 1918, in Pitcher, Oklahoma, a daughter of Fern and Dollie Casebolt Trimble.

She married William F. Fleming on November 20, 1942.

He passed away August 24, 1985.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larry Waggoner, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Waggoner; one son, Michael Fleming and wife Joanne; three grandsons, Jason Waggoner and wife Courtney, Zachary Fleming and Adam Fleming, all of Mattoon.

Mrs. Fleming graduated from Pitcher High School as Valedictorian of her class.

She was musically inclined and played the French horn.

Mary was active in many businesses.

In her early years, she raised pheasants south of Mattoon and sold them nationwide.

She was owner/operator of the former Okaw Plating Plant in Mattoon.

In later years, she owned The Loom, an antique and upholstery shop located in Mattoon.

Mary had many hobbies.

She was a beautiful seamstress and enjoyed attending local auctions.

She had a great love for her pets.

She was not only a wonderful mother and grandmother, but a "best friend" to them.

Her love and devotion for her family will never be forgotten.

Her family will sadly miss her, but she can rest knowing their love for her will continue to grow forever.

Memorial gifts may be made to Lincolnland Hospice or Bee Hive Homes, c/o Schilling Funeral Home.

Hellen Freeman

PARIS - Hellen R. Freeman, 78, of Paris, died at 2:35 p.m. Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date.

The Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home, Paris, is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Paris, the daughter of Lester B. and Oda M. Sigler Milburn.

She married Stuart Hale Freeman; he died in 1986.

Surviving are one brother, Albert Milburn of Mattoon, and one sister, Goldie Lannon of Charleston.

She was also preceded also in death by one brother and three sisters.

Mrs. Freeman was an assembler at Midwest Body Inc. in Paris.

Jan Hall

Janice Kay "Jan" Hall, age 50, of Mattoon, passed away at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2001, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

A memorial service celebrating her life will begin at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Robert C. Clark officiating.

Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Jan was born September 13, 1950, in Decatur, a daughter of Wendell E. and Kathryn Sur Howell.

She married William L. Hall on November 16, 1979.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Hall of Mattoon; three stepdaughters, Debbie Hall of Moberly, Mo., Christie Schwab and husband Mike of Tillamook, Oregon, and Billie "B. J." Hall of Moberly, Mo.; two sisters, Connie Thomas and husband Vernon "Bud" of Treasure Island, Fla. and Nancy Fleming of Santa Ana, Calif.; six nephews and two nieces; numerous cousins; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Floyd Bickel.

Mrs. Hall attended St. Joseph Catholic grade school and graduated Mattoon High School in 1968.

Jan was a current member of the First Christian Church in Mattoon.

She worked as a secretary for Industrial Roofing for fifteen years.

Jan enjoyed life, including motorcycle riding, horse-back riding, for which she received several awards.

Jan loved animals, especially her dog, Beau.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to American Cancer Society or Coles County Animal Shelter.

Deloris Heselton

MATTOON - Deloris M. Heselton, 69, of Mattoon, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael D. Lindsey officiating.

Burial will be in the Drummond Cemetery, Neoga.

Visitation will be from noon to service time at the funeral home.

She was born Dec. 7, 1931, in Mattoon, the daughter of Charles and Thelma Hill Goodwin.

He married William Heselton in 1957; he survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Steve Baker and Jerry Heselton, both of Newman; one daughter, Cheryl Heselton of Mattoon; one stepdaughter, Edna "Eddie" Antonovich of Collinsville; two brothers, Harold Goodwin of Mattoon and William Goodwin of Clinton, Ind.; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Heselton was a member of the East Side Church of the Nazarene and the Eagles.

Rickey Kemper

GREENUP - Rickey A. Kemper, 47, of Greenup, died at 12:50 p.m. Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Barkley Funeral Home in Greenup with the Rev. Marvin Oakley officiating.

Burial will be in the Jewett Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born Nov. 9, 1953, in Terre Haute, Ind., the son of Robert and Wanda Simpson Kemper.

He married Anita Kingery in 1973; she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Bill Price of Greenup and Johnny Price of Mattoon; three daughters, Anita Kemper of Mattoon, Melissa Neal of Oklahoma and Mary Sparling of Yale; two foster sons, Carlos Glenn and Doug Porter, both of Charleston; one foster daughter, Daisy Edwards of Humboldt; three sisters, Jo Ann Kemper of Casey, and Rebecca Carver and Tami Carll, both of Greenup; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter.

Mr. Kemper worked at Husinga Grain in Casey.

Dorothy Jean Lear

SULLIVAN - Dorothy Jean Lear, 80, of Sullivan, died Sunday at 5:45 p.m. in her home.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan.

There will be no visitation.

Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan.

Memorials may be made to the Moultrie County Chapter American Cancer Society.

She was born on June 7, 1920 in Moultrie County, the daughter of Charles W. and Susie A. Montgomery Webb.

She was retired from the Brown Shoe Co., member of the First United Methodist Church, Sullivan, R.S.V.P., in Sullivan, Moultrie County Senior Citizens.

Surviving are sons; Robert K. Elkin and wife Sandra of Yuma, AZ, John P. Elkin and wife Cathy of Sullivan; William D. Elkin and wife Mickey of Sutter, IL; daughters, Patsy E. Shull and husband Dwane of Lakeside, CA, Linda S. Ryan of Orlando, FL, Pamela A. Farber and husband Ron of Orlando, FL; sisters, Mable Standerfer of Sullivan, Jane Colclasure of Iola, Ruth Goodwin of Ramsey; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

Jane Potter

CHARLESTON - Jane M. Potter, 63, of Charleston, died at 12:43 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Caudill-King Funeral Home.

Burial will be in the Ashmore Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born Jan. 10, 1938, in Ashmore, the daughter of Dale and Thelma Toops Keigley.

She married Randall Potter in 1959; he survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Anita Gallion of Sorento and Sara McGinness of Charleston; his mother, Thelma Keigley of Charleston; one brother, Fred Keigley of Hampton, Va.; four sisters, Naomi Butler and Caroline Wright, both of Charleston, Sharon Kellner of Mattoon and Kathleen Kerns of Kansas; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Potter was preceded in death by her father.

Memorials may be made to the Myocitis Association of America in care of the funeral home.
