CHARLESTON - Harold F. "Buck" Coartney, age 80, of Charleston, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2001 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Holmes officiating.
Interment will be in Miller-Coartney Cemetery, near Ashmore with military rites by the Honor Guard of the Charleston VFW.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2001 at the funeral home.
Harold F. Coartney was born December 22, 1920 in Ashmore, Township, a son of Ernest C. and Marie A. Thatcher Coartney.
He is survived by a sister, Ruth M. Cox of Hartland, Michigan; a foster brother, Donald W. Coartney of Prescott Valley, Arizona; nephews James H. and Jerry C. Cox of Michigan and a niece, Sharon S. Mullins also of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James W. Coartney.
Mr. Coartney was a retired custodian at Eastern Illinois University.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
"Buck" was a member and active in the Honor Guard of the Charleston VFW and was honored for working as a volunteer over 1000 hours at the Danville Veterans Administration Hospital.
He was also active in Alcoholics Anonymous in Charleston and the surrounding area for the past 18 years.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Children's Hospital, Danville Veterans Hospital or any Veterans organization of the donor's choice.
Jim Goble
MARTINSVILLE - Jim Goble, 83, of Martinsville died at 10:25 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) at his residence.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville with the Rev. Mark Doane officiating.
Burial will be in the Ridgelawn Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Martinsville American Legion Post 515 and Casey VFW Post 5762.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Masonic Service at 8 p.m. by Clark Lodge 603 A.F. & A.M.
He was born Feb. 27, 1917, in Lerna, the son of Albert Clarence and Jesse Belle Eldridge Goble.
He married Luella Morgan in 1946. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Leon Goble of Martinsville; one daughter, Joyce Bishop of Martinsville; two brothers, Calvin Goble of Charleston and Charles Goble of Martinsville; two sisters, Emma Jean Davis of Westfield and Elsie Smith of Casey; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Goble was a retired farmer and U.S. Army veteran of WW II.
He attended Martinsville United Methodist Church and was a member of the Martinsville American Legion Post 515 and Casey VFW Post 5762.

Thomas Graham
TOLEDO - Thomas A. Graham, age 30, of Janesville, passed away at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2001 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be at a later date.
Barkley Funeral Home in Toledo is in charge of the arrangements.
Thomas was born Nov. 27, 1970 in Mattoon, a son of Jerry and Norma (Carrell) Graham.
He married Rebekah Gast on July 24, 1992. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Brittney Gast and Sierra Jo Graham, both of Toledo; his mother, Norma Graham of Janesville; three step-brothers, Lonnie Babb of Lerna, Marion Babb of Janesville and Perry Graham of Toledo; and special friends Tanyia Ellison and Dayton Ellison, both of Lerna.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Graham was a laborer.
Mary Phelps
LOVINGTON - Mary Phelps, 82, of Lovington died at 10:35 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at Moweaqua Nursing Home.
The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan.
Burial will be in Kellar Cemetery, Lovington.
Visitation will be one hour before services.
She was born March 27, 1918, in Edgewood, the daughter of John W. and Lizzie Jones Woolridge.
She married Delmar W. Phelps.
He died in 1980.
Survivors include sons Harold E. Phelps of Lovington and Jerry W. Phelps of Taylorville; a brother, Frank Woolridge of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters Ruth Coy of Lewiston, Idaho, and Ina Plummer of Montrose; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, eight brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Phelps worked at Brown Shoe and Switchcraft in Sullivan and was a member of the Lovington First Baptist Church.

Pearl Powell
LOVINGTON - Pearl Marie Jones Powell, 76, of Lovington, formerly of Dayton, Tenn., and Decatur, died at 4:50 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care Center.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Arthur Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Mitch Flesch and the Rev. John O'Dell officiating.
Burial will be in Macon Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Shrader Funeral Home in Arthur.
She was born Dec. 21, 1924, in Centralia, a daughter of David and Edna Ring Daughtery.
Surviving are one daughter, Alta "Nickey" Welton of Lovington; ex-husband and loving companion, Rollin "Buck" Jones of Lovington; three brothers, David of Davenport, Iowa, James of Galva and Ronnie of Florida; six sisters, Jean Campbell of New London, Mo., Sharon Leasmon of Glava, Lena Linenberger of New London, Mo., Susie Halkovic of Florida, Sarah Madson of California and Noretta O'Dell of Salem; and 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Ms. Powell was retired from ADT in Chicago and attended the Arthur Southern Baptist Church.
Lloyd Sides
FORSYTH - Lloyd E. Sides, 73, of Forsyth, formerly of Sullivan, died at 9:42 a.m. Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at his residence.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Burial will be in Post Oak Cemetery in St. Elmo.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He was born April 13, 1927, in Macon County, the son of John and Elizabeth Burrus Sides.
He married Evelyn J. Aldridge in 1954.
She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Charles Sides of Forsyth and John Sides of Decatur; two daughters, Patricia Fornwalt of Decatur and Cynthia Chapa of Baytown, Texas; two sisters, Mamie Carlyle of Mount Zion and Elaine Craig of Sullivan; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Sides retired from Wagner Casting Co. and was a Army WW II veteran and member of the Local Union in Decatur.

Sylvia Spangenberg
MARTINSVILLE - Sylvia Spangenberg, 86, of Martinsville died at 2:35 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) at Heartland Manor Nursing Home in Casey.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville.
Burial will be in Livingston Cemetery in Marshall.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
She was born July 11, 1914, in rural Marshall, the daughter of Dora Callaway.
She married Henry Spangenberg in 1932.
He died in 1989.Surviving are one daughter, Mayme Hollingsworth of Marshall; one brother, Lloyd Rogers of Marshall; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two infant twin sisters.
Jessie Strohl
MATTOON - Jessie M. Strohl, 71, of Mattoon died at 11:57 a.m. Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Dona officiating.
Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Shelby County, the daughter of Willis O. and Oma Young True.
She married Gene F. Strohl in 1948. He died in 1982.
Surviving are two sons, Larry G. Strohl and Anthony "Tony" Stohl, both of Mattoon; one daughter, Brenda K. O'Dell of Trilla; two brothers, Willis True, Jr. of Mattoon and Cleo True of Vera Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Norma Stewart of Neoga and Lavonna Stroud of Lerna; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, two brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Strohl was a retired cook at the Ramada Inn and member of the Neoga Christian Church.

Sadoris Selock
LOVINGTON - Sadoris Mae Hendrickson Selock, 77, of Madison, IN.; formerly of Lovington died at 2:00 am. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, in The Waters of Clifty Falls, Madison, IN.
Services will be Monday at 2:00 pm. In the McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Lovington, visitation will be from Noon until 2:00 pm. in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Keller Cemetery, Lovington. Memorials: American Cancer Society.
She was born July 28, 1923, in Arthur, the daughter of George L. and Hallie Powell Hendrickson.
She worked several years as a bookkeeper for the Lovington School System.
She had lived in Madison, IN., for 24 years, working as a social and activities director for 10 years at the Clifty Falls Convalescent Center.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1969 and the Women of the Moose, and a member of the First Christian Church, Lovington.
She married Thomas L. Selock on November 3, 1947, they shared 52 happy years together, he preceded her in death on March 1, 2000.
Surviving are 1 son; David Selock and wife Donna of Madison, IN., 1 granddaughter; Amy Jarvis of Fort Meyers, FL., 2 great-grandchildren; Alicia & Amber Jarvis.
She was preceded in death by; parents, husband, 2 sisters.
