Melody Mae "Dee Dee" Carter Hooper, age 32, of Mattoon, passed away at 7:55 p.m. Sunday, (April 1, 2001) at the St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First General Baptist Church with the Reverend Steven Gray officiating.
Burial will be in the Dodge Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. this evening at the Schilling Funeral Home.
Dee Dee was born December 13, 1968, in Mattoon, a daughter of David Sr. and Carolyn Steury Carter.
Dee Dee married Ron Hooper on June 4, 1994. He survives.
Other survivors include one brother, David Carter Jr. and wife Beth of Mattoon; one sister, Laura Gordon and husband Rohn of Mattoon; one half-brother, Andrew Carter of Oceanside, California; three stepbrothers, Andrew Graddy of Bellevue, Michigan, Scott Graddy of Sterling Heights, Michigan and Brannen Carter; her mother and stepfather, Carolyn and George Graddy of Lancaster; stepmother, Janet Carter of Indianapolis, Indiana; mother-in-law, Frances Hooper of Assumption; one brother-in-law, Andrew Hooper of Assumption; maternal grandmother, Daisy Steury of Mattoon, paternal grandmother, Betty Carter of Mattoon; many nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Carter, Sr.
Dee Dee was a graduate of Springfield University with an associate degree in nursing and her R.N. from St. John's School of Nursing in Springfield.
She worked in the nursery at the First General Baptist Church on South Ninth Street, where she was a member.
She worked as an R.N. and also as a pharmacy tech at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the First General Baptist Church.
Marilyn J. McCausland
CHARLESTON, IL - Marilyn J. McCausland, age 67, of Charleston passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2206 Fourth Street, Charleston, with Reverend Dale Beck officiating.
Visitation will be held this evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston.
Interment will be in Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Marilyn was born August 24, 1933, in Arcola, Illinois the daughter of Oscar George and Marie (Hansen) Wahl.
She married Richard E. McCausland on March 22, 1986 in Wheaton.
Survivors include her husband Richard of Charleston; four sons, Ralph McCausland and his wife Joan of Charleston, Roger McCausland and his wife Sue of Shelton, Washington, George McCausland and his wife Sue of Kingston, Illinois and Jim Derrick and his special friend Harmony of Wheeling, Illinois; four daughters, Jean Pison and her husband Robert of Carmel, Indiana, Karen Derrick of Indianapolis, Indiana, Martha Picszek and her husband Russ of Yorkville, Illinois and Ruth Maddock and her husband Mike of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; a brother, George Wahl and his wife Virginia of Georgia and fourteen grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents and one brother, Dr. John Wahl.
Marilyn was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston.
She graduated from the University of Chicago, and upon her retirement in management from the Gary-Wheaton Bank in Wheaton, she and her beloved husband Richard traveled extensively.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, flower gardening and hiking, but nothing was more meaningful to her than her grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Marilyn's family requests that memorials in her honor be made to the American Cancer Society.

NEOGA, IL - Joseph Foster "Joey" Walk, Jr., 20, of rural Neoga, IL, died Sunday afternoon (April 1, 2001) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday (April 5, 2001) at St. Michael, The Archangel Church in Sigel, IL, with Father Robert DeGrand of Sigel, IL, Father John Titus of Springfield, IL and Sister Pat Thies of Neoga, IL officiating.
Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Sigel, IL.
Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001 with a 7 p.m. Wake service at St. Michael, The Archangel Church in Sigel, IL.
The Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home, Neoga, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
Joey was born December 13, 1980, in Effingham, IL, the son of Joseph Foster and Catherine M. (Niemerg) Walk, Sr.
Survivors include his parents, Joe and Cathy Walk, Sr. of rural Neoga, IL; a sister, Jayne Walk at home; brothers, Ted and Lee Walk also at home; grandparents, Andrew and Martha Niemerg of Dieterich, IL, and Mary Walk of Teutopolis, IL.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Foster and Mary Louise Walk.
Mr. Walk was a student at Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL, he was the assistant baseball coach at Lake Land College and assistant basketball coach at St. Michael School in Sigel, IL.
He was a member of the St. Michael, The Archangel Church, Sigel, Phi Theta Kappy (National Honors Fraternity), he was a graduate of the Class of 1999 at Neoga High School.
Joey was a four year letterman in Baseball and a three year letterman in Basketball at Neoga High School.

Opal Washburn
CASEY - Opal M. Washburn, 94, of Casey, died at 5:55 a.m. Monday (April 2, 2001) at Heartland Manor Nursing Center in Casey.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Markwell and Son Funeral Home in Casey with the Rev. John Davis officiating.
Burial will be in the Green Moss Cemetery in Dolson Township.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 11, 1907, in Martinsville, the daughter of Charles Wesley Slater and Naomi Weir Slater.
She married Willard Washburn in 1927; he died in 1948.
Surviving are one daughter, Wanda N. Cross of Clarksville; one brother, Dale Slater of Marshall; four grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son and six brothers.
Mrs. Washburn was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Valley EUB Church in Greenup.
Michael Welsh
MATTOON - Michael W. Welsh, 47, of Mattoon, died at 2:20 p.m. Monday (April 2, 2001) at his residence.

Virgil Willis
Virgil Charles Willis, age 80, of Mattoon, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001, at the Mattoon Health Care Center.
Funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Joseph I. Somers officiating.
Burial with military rites by the V.F.W. Post 4325 will be the Dodge Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday morning at the funeral home.
Virgil was born August 16, 1920 in Gradon, West Virginia, a son of Dell and Minnie Armantrout Willis.
He married Geraldine O. Miller on April 2, 1947. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Rae Del Susan Cahill and husband Jack of Noblesville, Indiana, Brenda Cheryl Hall and husband Art of Mattoon; two grandchildren, Eric Preston Hall of Mattoon and Jon Michael Cahill of Hot Springs, South Dakota; one brother, Dennis Willis of Cottageville, West Virginia; one sister, Mabel Rorabaugh of Perry, Ohio; one nephew, Jerry White and wife Pat of Mattoon, three nieces, Marcia White of Mattoon, Patty Jo Leathers and husband Steve of Flora and Vicki Uhl and husband Jim of Mattoon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Matthew Troy Cahill, and seventeen brothers and sisters.
During World War II Virgil attained the rank of Sergeant while serving with the 274th Infantry, Glider unit Company G.
He saw action in campaigns in Africa , Sicily, Italy, France, Germany, Rome, Arno, Central Europe and Rhineland.
He was awarded the American Defense Medal on November 1, 1943 and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars.
Sgt. Willis was discharged with combat injuries October 17, 1945.
He lived in Mattoon as a meat cutter and construction worker until his retirement in 1975.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
