MATTOON - Ilene M. Barrow of Mattoon died at 9:25 a.m. Saturday (March 31, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The graveside funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the Neoga Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Mark Prevo officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born in Neoga, the daughter of James Franklin and Edna (Walker) Pugh.
She married Ralph G. Barrow in 1943. He died in 1962.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Helen Hampton of Effingham; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Mrs. Barrow was a retired food service worker for the Community Unit School District of Mattoon and a member of the First Christian Church.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Mattoon.
Charles Cowger
TOLEDO - Charles Cowger, 91, of Savoy, formerly of Hidalgo, died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday (March 31, 2001) at Provena Hospital in Champaign.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Barkley Funeral Home in Toledo.
Burial will be in Aten Cemetery in Hidalgo.
Visitation was Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born March 22, 1910, in Hidalgo, the son of David and Luella Carr Cowger.
He married Wilba Thomas. She died in 1976.
He later married Louise Shappert. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, William Cowger and Charles Cowger; two daughters, Reeta Beecham and Sareta Cummins; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Cowger was a retired teacher in the Jasper and Boone County schools.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Kiwanis Club, both of Champaign.
Memorials may be made to the Champaign Presbyterian Church or the Habitat for Humanity.
John Melvin
GALESBURG - John Wayne Melvin, 84, of Galesburg, formerly of Bushnell, died at 5:28 a.m. Saturday (March 31, 2001) at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bushnell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Martha Scaff officiating.
Burial will be in Bushnell Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Bushnell United Methodist Church.
The Martin-Hollis Funeral Home of Bushnell is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Sept. 3, 1916, in Bushnell, the son of John E. and Ethel Jones Melvin.
He married Eileen Speer in 1937. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Gary Melvin of Sullivan and Jay Melvin of Warsaw; four daughters, Bonnie Rogers of Hamilton, Joyce Staff of Quincy, Janet Hughbanks of Evergreen, Colo., and Angie Repp of Geneva; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Melvin was a farmer and co-owner of Melvin-Chambers Insurance Agency in Bushnell.
He was a life member of the Bushnell United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Bushnell Odd Fellows Lodge.
Roy Miller
BEECHER CITY - Roy T. Miller, 85, of Beecher City died at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday (March 28, 2001) at his residence.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lockart & Sons Funeral Home in Beecher City with the Rev. Leonard R. Jones officiating.
Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 4829 of Shelbyville.
Visitation was Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 22, 1915, in Moultrie County, the son of Roy Frederick and Nonia Adams Miller.
He married Jacqueline M. Moore in 1944. She died in 1990.
Surviving are three sons, Roy W. Miller of Sullivan, Thomas E. Miller of Warren, Mich., and Jerry J. Miller of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Percy Miller of Tower Hill and Ed Miller of Fancher; one sister, June Crockett of Shelbyville; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Mr. Miller was a farmer and U.S. Army veteran of WW II.
He was affiliated with the First Assembly of God Church in St. Elmo and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Aulsa Alexander
Aulsa Mae Alexander, age 87, of Mattoon, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home.
Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Douglas Fleischfresser officiating.
Burial will be in the Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until time of service on Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home.
Aulsa was born June 10, 1912, in Wolf County, Kentucky, a daughter of James and Pearlie Swango Murphy.
She married John R. Alexander on Nov. 25, 1931.
He passed away on February 21, 1987.
She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Michael of Rochester; three sons, Jerry Alexander and wife Kay of Buffalo Grove, Brad Alexander and wife Susan and Greg Alexander, all of Mattoon; two sisters, Genevieve McConnell of Prescott, Arizona, Ruby Edwards of Ft. White, Florida; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Alexander was a homemaker and a member of the Broadway Christian Church.

Norma Campbell
CASEY - Norma Jean Campbell, 74, of Casey, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday (April 15, 2001) at her home.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Casey with the Rev. Mark Kaley officiating.
Burial will be in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Markwell Funeral Home.
She was born Jan. 15, 1927, in Yale, the daughter of Berl E. and Mamie Hickox Collins.
She married Frank S. Campbell in 1947; he survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Ann Larkin of Virginia Beach, Va., Janet Bolser of Florissant, Mo., and Fran Hughes of St. Charles; three sisters, Eva Farley of Casey, Wanda Robey of Greenup and Anna Lee Collins of Indianapolis; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
Mrs. Campbell was a homemaker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Naomi Circle, the Casey United Methodist Church and the Casey Women's Club.

Lucile Carpenter
ADVANCE, N.C. - Lucile Carpenter, 97, of Advance, N.C., formerly of Casey, died at 3 a.m. Sunday (April 15, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Washington Street Cemetery in Casey with the Rev. Mark Kaley officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the graveside service at the Markwell and Son Funeral Home in Casey.
She was born March 13, 1904, in Early, Iowa, the daughter of James Terrill Stone and Emma W. Jackson Stone.
She married Wesley Carpenter; he preceded in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Jeanne Wherry of Advance, N.C.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star.

Roberta Cox
KOKOMO, Ind. - Roberta A. Cox, 79, of Kokomo, Ind., formerly of Sullivan, died at 11:15 a.m. Sunday (April 15, 2001) at Manor Care in Kokomo, Ind.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors James Bradley and Pat Bousum officiating.
Entombment will follow.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born June 17, 1921, in Sullivan, the daughter of Leslie and Josephine Waggoner Grisby.
She married Lowell T. Cox in 1946; he survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Cathy Stover of Greentown, Ind.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
Mrs. Cox was a homemaker and had worked at Indiana Rail and Allisons.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kokomo, Ind.
