NEOGA - Margaret "Gerrie" Buenker, 59, of rural Neoga,
died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday (May 2, 2001) at her
residence.
Burial will be in the Neoga Memorial Cemetery. Visitation
will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral
Home.
She was born, Feb. 9, 1942, in Hindsboro, the daughter of
Keith and Nama Whittington Mood. She married James
"Pete" Buenker in 1971; he survives.
Also surviving are one son, George Fidler of Mattoon;
three daughters, Angela Sue Hopper of Mattoon, Amy
Beth Brown of Olathe, Kan., and Susan Renae Smyser of
DePere, Wis.; and 8 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one
daughter.
Mrs. Buenker was a homemaker and former manager of
Casey's General Store in Neoga and of Lambo's Amoco in
Mattoon. She was a member of the American Legion
Auxiliary and Evergreen Chapter OES 96, both of Neoga;
VFW Auxiliary of Mattoon; and Moose Lodge of
Effingham.

Harry Carpenter
WEST UNION - Harry H. Carpenter, 86, of rural West
Union, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday (May 2, 2001) at his
residence.
A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. today at the Ohio
Cemetery, northwest of West Union, with the Rev. Glenn
Arbuckle and the Rev. Richard Chapman officiating. No
visitation is planned. The Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel in
West Union is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Jan. 11, 1915, in Clark County, the son of
William Marion and Mary Margaret Carver Carpenter.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and four
sisters.
Mr. Carpenter was a retired general repairman. He was a
member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church.
George Evans
CHARLESTON - George Evans, 61, of Charleston, died
Saturday (April 28, 2001) at his rural residence.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the
Tuscola Cemetery. Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston
is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Evans was a retired driver for Ne-Co Asphalt
Company.
Pearl Mullenix
MATTOON - Pearl Thelma Mullenix, 83, of Mattoon,
died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at her residence.
Burial will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery at a later date.
The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Stonington, the daughter
of Isaac and Myrtle White Justice. She married Donald
Mullenix in 1940; he died in 1953.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis E. Mullenix of Peoria and
Darryl K. Mullenix of Mattoon; one daughter, Cheryl R.
Wood of Mattoon; three brothers, George Justice Sr. of
Quincy, John Justice of Troy, Mont., and Leo Justice of
West Virginia; one sister, Violet Rathe of Mattoon; three
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Mullenix was a secretary for Community Unit 2
Schools.

MATTOON - Gloria G. Stokes, 56, of Mattoon, died at
7:27 p.m. Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln
Health Center.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Rest Haven
Memorial Gardens, Mattoon, with Pastor David Hewitt
and Richard Linder officiating. Visitation will be from 11
a.m. until time of service Friday at the Epperson Funeral
Chapel.
She was born Jan. 7, 1945, in Madison County, the
daughter of Oscar and Nellie Keller.
Surviving are two sons, Johnny May of Carlyle and
Wayne May of Jerseyville; two daughters, Pamela Linder
of Mattoon and Linda Lacey of Jerseyville; two brothers,
William Keller of Arizona and Peter Keller of California;
four sisters, Millie Chmielewsky, Diane Grace, Ida
Simpson and Betty Cunningham, all of Wood River; and
12 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one
grandchild.
Lucas Hartman
BELVIDERE - Lucas Daniel Hartman, infant son of
Joshua and Carrie (Secrest) Hartman, died Monday (April
30, 2001) at his home.
The service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First Church of
the Nazarene in Rockford. Visitation will be from 6 to 8
p.m. Thursday at Fitzgerald and Associates, Mulford
Chapel, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his parents of Belvidere; two brothers,
Zachary and Andrew, at home; grandparents Donald and
Theresa Secrest of Manteno, John and Therese Hulbert of
Manteno, and Robert J. Hartman of Chicago;
great-grandparents Ray and Shirley Secrest of Mattoon,
Mertie Epperson of Mattoon, Robert and Carol Hartman
of Chicago, Carol Hack of Chicago, and Donald and
Jacqueline Becker of Chicago; and
great-great-grandparents Tom and Kathryn Dougal of
Tampa, Fla.
Lucas was preceded in death by four great-grandfathers
and one great-grandmother.

Douglas Livingston
ST. JOSEPH - Douglas Lee Livingston, 30, of St. Joseph,
formally of Charleston, died at 6:07 P.M. Sunday at Sarah
Bush Lincoln Health Center. Funeral services celebrating
his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Epperson
Funeral Chapel, 1313 9th Street, Mattoon with Chaplin
Dan Crumrei and Pastor Bob Yountz officiating. Burial
with full military rites will be held at Arcola Cemetery,
Arcola, IL. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 P.M.
Wednesday at the funeral home. Everyone is invited to a
gathering of friends and family at Arcola Civic Center
immediately following the service.
He was born September 15, 1970, in Mattoon, the son of
Loretta (Colman) Fentress and Jerry Lee Livingston. He
married Dawn Stubbs August 14, 1999. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Andrew and daughter, Madisyn,
both at home; his father, Jerry Lee Livingston and wife
Judith of Dunnellon, FL; mother, Loretta (Colman) the
late Norman Fentress of Arcola; one brother, Marlin and
wife, Denise of Mahomet, IL and one sister, Tisha Pfeiffer
and husband Brian of Charleston; two stepbrothers, Larry
Griffith and wife, BeBe and Tay Griffith and wife, Cheryl,
both of Mattoon; three stepsisters, Rita Griffith of
Mattoon, Missy Hayes and husband Dean of Oakland, and
Rhonda Hayse of Atwood; mother and father-in-law, Bill
and Retta Gandy of Pana and Bob and Mary Stubbs of St.
Charles Mo.; sister-in-law Jody (Stubbs) Groenke of
Jacksonville FL.
Doug was a Forging Engineer and the Manager of Product
Engineering for Clifford-Jacob Forging Co. in
Champaign-Urbana. He graduated from Charleston High
School in 1988 and earned his bachelors degree in
Industrial Technology in 1994 from Eastern Illinois
University. Doug was a member of the National Guard,
Springfield, IL, where he earned the rank of Captain. He
was deployed to several countries of the world including
Ukraine, Korea, Iceland and Belize. He was also activated
in 1993 during the flood in Missouri. Doug was currently
Company Commander for the 233rd Military Police
Company in Springfield.
He was a prominent musician where he mastered the
drums and saxophone. Doug had a great love for sports,
participating in motorcycle riding, truck pulling, camping
and boating. He was a loving husband and father, a
dedicated family man and a good friend to many people.
In every sense of the word, he was a true patriot and had
a great love for his country. Doug will always be
remembered for his smile and generosity.
He attended the First Church of God in Charleston, and
was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity.
