ROCHESTER - Martha K. Murphy, 75, of Rochester,
formerly of Mattoon, died at 7:40 p.m. Saturday (April 28,
2001) at her residence.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Calvary
Cemetery in Mattoon with the Rev. Herman Niebrugge
officiating. The Staab Funeral Home in Springfield is in
charge of the arrangements.
She was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Murphysboro, the daughter
of William R. and Regina Hufnagle Kimball. She married
William E. Murphy in 1963; he died in 1971.
Surviving are several cousins.
Mrs. Murphy retired in 1986 from the payroll department
of Illinois Department of Corrections.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society
or the American Heart Association.
John Saathoff
ARTHUR - John E. Saathoff, 67, of Arthur, formerly of
Toledo, died at 6:00 Sunday (April 29, 2001) at Sarah
Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Barkley Funeral
Home in Toledo with the Rev. Tim Pearce officiating.
Burial will be in Janesville Cemetery. Visitation will be 6
to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McMullin-Young Funeral
Home in Arthur and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Barkley
Funeral Home in Toledo.
He was born April 5, 1934, in Champaign, the son of O.H.
and Grace Fruhling Saathoff. He married Winona Carrell
in 1955; she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael Saathoff of Toledo
and Bryon Saathoff of Arthur; one brother, H.J. "Bob"
Saathoff of Gibson City; one sister, Dorthea "Dort" Grider
of Champaign; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Mr. Saathoff was service manager for Sloan Implement
Company in Atwood. He was an Army veteran.

and Lake Land College John Deere Training Center.
Margaret Taylor
GREENUP - Margaret Louisa Taylor, 86, of Hidalgo, died
at 9:10 p.m. Monday (April 30, 2001) at the Newton
Resthaven Nursing Home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Barkley
Funeral Home in Greenup with the Rev. Tim Pearce
officiating. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until service time at the
funeral home.
She was born Oct. 22, 1914, in Rose Hill, the parents of
Hiram and Agnes Powell Tracy. She married Wayne
Taylor in 1936; he survives.
Also surviving are one brother, Roy Tracy of Columbia
City, Ind.; three sisters, Lois Disler of Freemont, Ind.,
Evon Weaver of Nashville, Ind., and Beulah Auten of
Franklin, Ind.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Taylor was a grocery store clerk. She was a member
of the Rose Hill Household Science Club and attended the
Rose Hill United Methodist Church.
Billy Eugene Wright, 68, passed away April 28, 2001.
Preceded in death by son David Wayne Wright. Survived
by son Marc Wright of Tucson, Grandson Nathan Wright
of Phoenix, and three great grandsons, Brothers Marvin of
Decatur, Illinois and Bob of Tucson and Sister, Linda

MATTOON - Goldie J. Bahney, 68, of Mattoon, died at

Antioch, Calif., formerly of Mattoon, died recently.

Emogene Brewer
OAKLAWN - Emogene Brewer, 76, of Oaklawn,
formerly of Greenup, died Friday (April 27, 2001) in
Oaklawn.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mount
Zion Cemetery near Greenup. The Barkley Funeral Home
in Greenup is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Feb. 19, 1925. She married Bert Brewer; he
died in 1986.
Surviving are two sons, Michael and Stephen Brewer; one
daughter, April Warren; two sisters, Loraine Neal of
Greenup and Lucille Hutton of Toledo; and three
grandchildren.

ST. JOSEPH - Douglas Lee Livingston, 30, of St. Joseph,
formerly of Charleston, died at 6:07 p.m. Sunday (April
29, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the
Epperson Funeral Chapel in Mattoon. The funeral will be
2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in
Arcola Cemetery in Arcola.

Margaret Ryerson
WEST YORK - Margaret Louise Ryerson, 77, of West
York, died at 12:01 a.m. Sunday (May 13, 2001) at
Crawford Memorial Hospital In Robinson.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the West York
Bible Church with the Rev. Berton Heleine and the Rev.
Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Bradbury
Cemetery, east of West York. Visitation will be 5 to 8:30
p.m. today at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel in West
Union and from noon until service time Wednesday at the
church.
She was born Oct. 25, 1923, in Palestine, the daughter of
Virgil E. White and Stella Ziegler White. She married
Charles H. Ryerson in 1942; he died in 1983.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Nash of West York;
one brother, Kenneth White of Robinson; four sisters,
Carol Weger of New Hebron, Betty Johnson of Kokomo,
Ind., Linda White of Centerville, Penn., and Janet Striegel
of Danvers; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
and a companion, John Fullroth of rural Hutsonville.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers and
sisters, and one grandchild.
Mrs. Ryerson was a homemaker. She was a charter
member of the West York Bible Church and a member of
the William White Amvets Auxiliary of Palestine.

Ralph C. Hardy
TOWER HILL, IL - Ralph C. Hardy, 87, of Tower Hill,
IL, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, May 13, 2001, in
Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
Mr. Hardy was born June 3, 1913, in Shelby County, the
son of Abraham Lincoln and Ida Estella Lockart Hardy.
He was a member of the Tower Hill Christian Church and
the Shelby County Historical Society. He farmed until he
was 87 years old. He was a loving husband, father,
grandfather and great-grandfather.
He married Wanda Pauline Wilcoxen on Dec. 22, 1941 in
St. Charles, MO, and she survives. Also surviving are his
son, Charles Hardy and wife Carlene of Tower Hill;
daughters, Linda Pritts and husband Bill of Dalton City,
IL and Barbara Hubner and husband Harold of
Assumption, IL; grandchildren, Clay Hardy and wife Kim,
Luke Hardy and wife Penny, Chad Hardy and wife Carrie,
Matt Hardy and wife Dena, Mark Pritts and wife Jennifer,
Gina Pritts, Trudy Filchak, and Deborah Davis and
husband Doug; great-grandchildren, Josh Hardy, Seth
Hardy, Niki Hardy, Coulter Hardy, McQuade Hardy,
Mackenzie Hardy, Brittany Pritts, John Filchak, Samantha
Filchak, Matthew Davis and Tiffany Davis; step
great-grandchildren: Nathan, Kristen and Nick.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nellie
Hardy; brothers, Ray Hardy and Leverette Hardy; and
great grandson, Michael Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May
16, 2001 in the Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in
Shelbyville with the Rev. Derrick Ritchie officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. today. Burial will
be in Tower Hill Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the

James Howard
HIDALGO - James L. Howard, 72, of Hidalgo, died at
8:30 p.m. Sunday (May 13, 2001) at his residence.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Barkley
Funeral Home in Greenup with the Rev. Jerry Wilson
officiating. Burial will be in Aten Cemetery, Hidalgo.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born June 22, 1928, in Rose Hill, the son of Ralph
and Pearl Brown Howard. He married Anneta Sowers in
1948; she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Larry Howard of
Waterloo, Iowa, and James D. Howard of Hidalgo; one
daughter, Linda Ervin of Hidalgo; one brother, Lowell
Howard of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Mr. Howard was a farmer and member of the Rose Hill
United Methodist Church.
