CHARLESTON - Phyllis J. Lang, 53, of Charleston, died Monday (May
28, 2001) at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Caudill-King Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born March 26, 1948, in Charleston, the daughter of William B.
and Norma J. McNary Waters. She married Danny Lang in 1968. He
survives.
Also surviving are one son, Tommy Lang of Charleston; one daughter,
Melanie Lang of Charleston; and her mother, Norma Waters of Charleston.
She was preceded in death by her father, one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Lang was a member of the North Side Baptist Church in Charleston.
Valeria McCoy
Valeria L. McCoy, 88, of Sullivan, died 2:10 p.m. Saturday (May 26, 2001)
in Sullivan Health Care Center.
Graveside funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in Greenhill
Cemetery, Sullivan with Rev. Glen Stewart officiating. Visitation will be
one hour before services in Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Memorials are
suggested to Moultrie County Habitat for Humanity.
Valeria was born October 19, 1912 in Hervey City, Illinois the daughter of
Clifford and Bertha Herman Lundy. She married Emery McCoy on
November 1, 1942 in Decatur and he preceded her in death on November
2, 1983.
She is survived by her niece Joan Pound and her husband Joe of Sullivan
and several other nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her sister Mary Murphy and brother
Glenn Lundy.
Aden McDaniel
MATTOON - Aden McDaniel, 76, of Mattoon, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday
(May 26, 2001) at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home.
The graveside funeral with military rites will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at
the Embarrass Cemetery, west of Redmon, with Burton Senter officiating.
There will be no visitation. Taber Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of
the arrangements.
He was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Allenville, the son of Paul and Mamie
Moran McDaniel. He married Patsy Clapp in 1942. He later married Mary
F. Daughtery in 1966. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Debbie Granda of Lincoln; two step-sons,
Keith Daughtery of Tuscola and Kevin Daughtery of Redmon; three
grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two step-sons.
Mr. McDaniel was a retired machinist and former Caterpillar employee. He
was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II and member of
the Tuscola VFW #1009.
Loren Morris
ATWOOD - Loren Dean Morris, 77, of Atwood, died at 6:55 a.m.
Saturday (May 26, 2001) at Sullivan Health Care Center.
The service will be held at a later date. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home in
Atwood is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Pierson, the son of Dewey and Velera Fulk
Morris. He married Audrey Matheson Jaco in 1988. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Darrell Morris of Champaign; two daughters,
Donna Betts of Albany, La. and Linda Morris of Mattoon; one step-son,
Timothy Jaco of Hollywood, Fla.; one step-daughter, Tammy Wilson of
Atwood; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Morris retired from Progress Industries in Arthur and worked for
Schrock Cabinet Factory in Arthur.
Erlene Newman
MARTINSVILLE - Erlene Newman, 87, of Martinsville, died at 11:50
p.m. Sunday (May 27, 2001) at Burnside Nursing Home in Marshall.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Greenwell Funeral Home in
Martinsville with the Rev. George Nika officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m.
Sunday at the Maple Hill Cemetery with military graveside services.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born July 13, 1913, in Westfield, a daughter of Mike and Myrtle
Strader Everhart. She married Roy Newman in 1969. He died in 1982.
Surviving are one step-son, Jim Newman of Colorado; one step-daughter,
Martha Marguess of Fairfield, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Newman was retired from the Westfield State Bank and a U.S. Navy
veteran of World War II. She was a member of the Martinsville United
Methodist Church and VFW Auxiliary.
Thomas Sherman
DANVILLE - Thomas Dale Sherman Sr., 83, of Danville, died at 11:15
p.m. Friday (May 25, 2001) at Provena U.S. Medical Center, Sager.
The funeral was held Monday at Pape Memorial Homes and Gardens.
Burial was in Atherton Cemetery.
He was born March 20, 1917, in Charleston, a son of George Raymond
and Nellie Sanders Sherman. He married Florence Mae Marker in 1977.
She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Thomas Dale Sherman Jr. of Crystal Lake and
two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Sherman previously worked for Illinois Consolidated Telephone
Company and was a member of the Mattoon Masonic Lodge 260 and
Danville Scottish Rite.
Memorials may be made to the Vermilion Heights Christian Church.
Wanda Tichenor
CHAMPAIGN - Wanda L. Tichenor, 68, of Champaign, died at 4:32 p.m.
Sunday (May 27, 2001) in Urbana.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist
Church in Westfield with the Rev. Joe Grozik officiating. Burial will be in
Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time on
Wednesday at the church. Markwell & Son Funeral Home is in charge of
the arrangements.
She was born July 13, 1932, in Westfield, a daughter of Eugene and Edna
Marie Davis Rogers. She married Edward Tichenor in 1960. He survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Rick Tichenor of Westfield; Brian Tichenor
of Monticello and Mark Tichenor of Champaign; her mother, Edna Perisho
of Westfield; and one granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She was retired from JC Penney's as a sales associate and was a member
of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 24 of Champaign.
Nell Waller
CHARLESTON - Nell Waller, age 88, of Charleston, passed away 5:30
a.m. Sunday, May 27, 2001 at the Odd Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the
Harper-Swickard Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Prevo officiating. Visitation
will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. Graveside services will be
1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2001 at the Wickliffe City Cemetery,
Wickliffe, Kentucky.
Nell Waller was born August 7, 1912 at Wickliffe, Kentucky, a daughter of
Benjamin and Emma Duke Morris. She graduated from Wickliffe High
School in 1927 and Bowling Green College (Western Kentucky University)
in 1935. Nell married Ashton Carr Waller August 7, 1935 and he preceded
her in death January 17, 1988. She is survived by her children, Ashton
Waller and his wife June of Charleston, Robert Waller and his wife Sharon
of Lake Forest, Illinois, William Waller of Tuscon, Arizona and a
son-in-law, Roger Watkins of Herrin, Illinois, whose wife Mary preceded
him in death in 1995. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Robert Waller
and his wife Jackie of Portland, Oregon, Jennifer Lamm and her husband
Steve of Chicago, Katherine Kauffman and her husband Duane of
Indianapolis, Indiana, Jonathan Waller and his wife Christy of Sullivan,
Illinois, Kathryn Watkins of Murphysboro, Illinois and Matthew Watkins of
Herrin as well as one great-grandchild, Ally Gott of Sullivan, Illinois. She
was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
After graduation from college, Mrs. Waller taught school in West Virginia
where she was well respected by her students. She and her family lived in
various cities in the Southeast and Midwest, where her husband was
employed with General Motors. While in Park Ridge, Illinois, during the
1950's she was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and was an
avid bowler, leading her league in scoring year after year. She and her
husband retired to Anna, Illinois. Following his death in 1988, she moved to
Charleston, Illinois where she was active in the First Christian Church.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to
either the First Christian Church or the Charleston Public Library.
Louise Williams
GREENUP - Louise S. Williams, 82, of Greenup, died at 2:20 a.m.
Saturday (May 26, 2001) at Mattoon Health Care Center.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the Barkley Funeral Home in
Greenup with the Rev. Tim Pearce officiating. Burial will be in Harmony
Cemetery in rural Greenup. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service
today at the funeral home.
She was born June 19, 1918, in Greenup, the daughter of Edward
Champion and Mayme Tutewiler Stewart. She married Thomas Williams in
1937. He died in 1999.
Surviving are one son, Charleston Williams of Lakeside Calif. and three
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Williams was a seamstress at Ettelbrock Factory in Greenup and a
member of the Toledo United Methodist Church.
Jimmie Ashmore
OAKLAND - Jimmie L. Ashmore, age 67, of Oakland, passed away
Thursday afternoon, May 24, 2001, in Ft. Meyers, Florida.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, May 29, 2001, at 10:30
a.m. at Taber Funeral Home, Oakland with Tony Crouch officiating. Burial
will be in the Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5
to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Ashmore was born December 22, 1933, at Oakland, the son of James
W. "Bill" and Grace Higgs Ashmore. He married Janet Johnson on August
28, 1952, in Hernando, Mississippi. She survives. Also surviving are three
sons, Rick Ashmore of Ft. Meyers, Florida, Randy Ashmore of Pubelo,
Colorado and Rod Ashmore of Naples, Florida; 1 daughter, Mrs. Randy
(Ronna) Beck of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Jackie Bacon of
Charleston; one aunt, Esther Hall of Oakland and several nieces and
nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Ressa Ashmore and
two brothers, Bill M. Ashmore and Gene Ashmore.
Mr. Ashmore was a building contractor the past 45 years.
