KANSAS - Josiah Earl Ingram, 88, of Kansas, died at 7:05 a.m. Tuesday
(June 5, 2001) at Carle Hospital in Urbana.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. today at the Sutton and Son Funeral Home,
Paris. Burial will be in Embarras Cemetery with Masonic Rites by the
Kansas Masonic Lodge 280 AF & AM.
He was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Jamaica, the son of Earl and Mary Williams.
He married Ruth Bernice Story in 1939; she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Larry Ingram of Lenexa, Kan.; one daughter,
Mary McDonald of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a twin brother and one sister.
Mr. Ingram was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill
Christian Church, the Edgar County Farm Bureau and Gideons
International, and was a 50-year member of the Kansas Lodge 280 AF &
AM and the Danville Scottish Rite Consistory.
Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Christian Church.
Charles Taylor
SULLIVAN - Charles R. Taylor, 86, of Sullivan, died on June 6, 2001, at
9:40 p.m. in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday June 10, 2001, in the
McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan, visitation will be Saturday from
6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Keller
Cemetery, Lovington. Memorials: First Christian Church, Sullivan or the
First Christian Church, Lovington.
Mr. Taylor was born on June 5, 1915 in Lovington the son of Charles W.
and Mertie Ellen Landers Taylor. He was in the Navy during WW II,
retired from the Sullivan School District, member of the First Christian
Church, Sullivan.
He married Rachel N. Murphy on September 16,1933, in Crown Point,
Indiana. She preceded him in death on May 22,1998.
Surviving him are daughters; Rochelle Boyd and husband "Ike" of
Lovington, Karen McCoy and husband Gary of Dayton, Ohio, Marsha
Schwartz and husband John of League City, Texas, Kathy Schwerin and
husband Kent of Flanagan, IL; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother and 2 sisters.
Isabelle J. Thacker
MATTOON, IL - Isabelle J. (Clucas) Thacker, age 66, of Mattoon, passed
away 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health
Center.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the
Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Hewitt officiating. There will be
no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home in Mattoon is in charge of arrangements.
Isabelle was born September 11, 1934, in Ramsey, Illinois, to Richard and
Geneva (McDaniel) Clucas. She married Fred P. Thacker on March 25,
1950. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. Thacker is survived by one son, Fred Thacker, Jr. of Mattoon; three
daughters, Vicki Williams and husband Merle of Joliet, Lana Cline and
husband Merl of Mattoon, and Debbie Louthan and husband Mark of
Mattoon; one brother, John Clucas of Pana, also survives her. Three sisters
preceded her in death.
Mrs. Thacker leaves her grandchildren, Reneé Dimmick, Paul Cline, Jenny
Cole, Scott Williams, John Cline, Carrie Schelling, Trisha Focht, Freddy
Thacker, Angie Cline and Danielle Thacker. She also leaves nine
great-grandchildren, Ryan Cline, Dominic Nall, Marky Cole, Samuel
Dimmick, Debbie Focht, Whitley Cline, Tyler Cole, Alexander Dimmick
and Tyler Ashcraft.
Isabelle J. Thacker was retired from Federal Kemper Insurance Company
in Decatur where she was formerly employed as an Underwriter. She was a
member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose and Eagles
Lodge in Mattoon.
Robert Weber
EFFINGHAM - Robert M. Weber, 63, of Effingham, died at 7:30 a.m.
Wednesday (June 6, 2001) at his residence.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church
in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today with a 6 p.m. Parish prayer service and
7 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary at the Bauer Funeral Home in
Effingham.
He was born May 11, 1938, the son of Ralph and Maureen Marsh Weber.
He married Rose Hofman Weber; she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael Weber of Effingham and Phillip
Weber of Spring Valley, Calif.; five daughters, Sandra Schoenhoff of
Effingham, Lisa Cornell of Effingham, Julie Gass of Mattoon, and Sheena
and Shaelyn Weber both of Olympia, Wash.; one brother, Steve Weber of
Springfield; one sister, Jane Goeckner of Dieterich; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sons.
Mr. Weber operated an appliance repair service. He was a member of the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham.
Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Church or School.
Frederick Connelly
CHARLESTON - Frederick "Fred" H. Connelly, 86, of Charleston, died at
1:01 p.m. Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Prairie View Nursing Center.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home
with the Rev. Barney Wells officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn
Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 4, 1915, in Clark County, the son of Everett and Ruth
Welch Connelly. He married Myrtle Tanner; she died in 1990.
Surviving are one son, Thomas Connelly of Charleston; one brother,
Bobby Connelly of Casey; two sisters, Rosalee Bartlett of Terre Haute,
Ind., and Daphne Ulrey of Clay City; four grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Mr. Connelly was a retired farmer.
Linda Daniels
CHARLESTON - Linda Lucille Daniels, 58, of Charleston, died at 11:40
p.m. Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Salvation Army Citadel with
Capt. Normalee Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Dodge Grove
Cemetery. The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born July 28, 1942, in Mattoon, the daughter of Calvin and Goldie
Spidle Wisely.
Surviving are four sons, Danny Daniels of Charleston, Tim Lucas of
Toledo, and James and Chuck Lucas, both of Charleston; two daughters,
Julie Pearcy of Charleston and Londa Murphy of Mattoon; one brother,
Russell Wisely of Paducah, Ky; six sisters, Christy Livingston, Lodell
Arthur and Vivian Mitchell, all of Mattoon, Esther Williams of Melbourne,
Fla., and Maggie Rhoades and Becky Grubb, both of Charleston; and seven
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Linda was a homemaker and a member of the Salvation Army, the Eagles
Post 3100 and the Moose Lodge Ladies Auxiliary 1175.
Edna Farris
SULLIVAN - Edna M. Farris, 96, of Sullivan, died at 10:47 a.m.
Wednesday (June 6, 2001) in the Illinois Masonic Home, Sullivan.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Illinois Masonic Home
Chapel. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Dodge
Grove Cemetery, Mattoon. Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Masonic
Home. Reed Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Edna was born October 30, 1904, in Gays, the daughter of Hershel and
Jessie Marie Harrison Houchin. She had worked at Kuhne Manufacturing
in Mattoon and then devoted the last several years to cleaning homes and
helping to care for the families children. She had attended the Marshall
Avenue Christian Church, Mattoon and had been a member of the Mattoon
Moose and Mattoon Eagles Clubs. She married Clint Brewer on February
12, 1924 and he preceded her in death on July 6, 1936. She then married
Vernon "Bun" Fleenor on July 22, 1946 and preceded her in death on
February 5, 1954 and then she married Troy Farris on May 29, 1956 and
he preceded her in death on November 3, 1974.
Surviving are her nephews, Ron Houchin and his wife Betty of Brookville,
Indiana, Don Houchin of California; nieces Dixie Dickens and her husband
Evan of Sullivan and Saralou Letner of Mattoon.
Edna will be greatly missed by her great nephew, Greg Dickens and wife
Micah; great-great-nephew, Hutson Dickens; great-niece, Amanda Bolsen;
several other great-nieces and nephews; all her card club members at the
Moose and Eagles Clubs and all her close neighbors and friends.
Clara Winkleblack
MATTOON - Clara Ann Winkleblack, 79, of Mattoon, died at 10:46 a.m.
Wednesday (June 6, 2001) at her home.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home
with Pastor Doug Woods officiating. Burial will be in Enon Cemetery, rural
Ashmore. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She was born July 6, 1921, in Jasper County, the daughter of Earl and
Sylvia Slane Sowers. She married Charles William Winkleblack in 1943; he
died in 2000.
Surviving are three sons, Lewis Duaine Winkleblack of Lerna, Charles
Allen Winkleblack of Windsor and Ernest Glenn Winkleblack of Mattoon;
three daughters, Eula Mae Mince of Mattoon, Dorothy Winings of Gays
and Charlette Mince of Bridgeport, Ala.; one sister, Lois Strader of
Greenup; special friend, Gene Strader of Greenup; 13 grandchildren; and
11 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother.
Mrs. Winkleblack was a homemaker and a member of Enon Baptist
Church.
Leonard Kerr Knudsen
Mattoon, IL - Leonard Kerr Knudsen, age 59, of Mattoon, formerly of
Moline, Illinois, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2001, at 11:15 a.m. at
his residence.
Leonard was born May 5, 1942, Rock Island, Illinois to Kelly and Juanita
(Kerr) Knudsen. He married Pamela J. Van Meter in Arlington, Texas on
December 24, 1983. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Anne Mattly and Joan Barnett of East
Moline, and Tricia Knudsen still at home; one son, Michael O'Dell of
Hannibal, Missouri; and one grandson, Wyatt Barnett of East Moline.
Mr. Knudsen has three surviving brothers, Ted Knudsen of East Moline,
Jack Knudsen of Midlotian, Texas, and Tim Knudsen of Moline. One
sister, Sally Krause survives in Brookfield, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by 3 children; Lenny, Jeff and Chris and one
sister Diane.
Mr. Knudsen was a laborer with Cobb Construction and a member of the
New Life Tabernacle Church.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 7, 2001 from 5-8 p.m. at the
Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday June 8, 2001
at 2:00 PM at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Rev. Van
Frownfelter and Rev. Dave Dolan officiating. Burial will be at Bethel
Cemetery, southeast of Mattoon.
Dean Medsker
ANNAPOLIS - Dean Medsker, 77, of rural Annapolis, died at 11:40 p.m.
Monday (June 4, 2001) at his home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenwell Funeral Home,
Martinsville, with the Rev. Art Orndorff officiating. Burial will be in
Medsker Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home.
He was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Clark County, the son of Guy and Laura
Effner Medsker. He married Nora Ellen Stephens in 1946; she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Ellen Hill and Dianna June
Medsker, both of Annapolis; one brother, Jerald Medsker of Martinsville;
four sisters, Grace Schryer in Rochester, Ind., Ruth Exline of Hymera,
Ind., Leta Wilson of Tolono and Clara Mae Sanders of Florida; two
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Medsker was a retired cement mason and member of Local 143. He
was an Army veteran.
