CHARLESTON - Iola I. Phillips, 84, of Charleston, died on June 2, at her
home.
Born May 28, 1917 in Charleston, IL, on the day of the Charleston
Tornado. The first of seven children born to Robert and Gay Biggs
Thomason. Her daddy called her "Curly", a name that many friends and
family called her throughout her life.
She married Harry H. Phillips on July 24, 1935 in Marshall, IL. He passed
away Dec. 17, 1998. Together they had four children; three still remain;
Larry and wife Nancy Phillips, Terry and wife Tammy Phillips, both of
Charleston; Tony and wife Morning Phillips, of Waco, TX; and one
daughter, Sherry A. Malcovsky deceased.
Iola leaves behind one brother; Rex Thomason of Oakland, and one sister;
Geneva Tichener of Charleston. Preceding her in death was a sister; Peggy,
and three brothers; Tommy, Don, and Bob.
She was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
They lovingly knew her as Mamaw. She was loved by all and will be
greatly missed.
During her working career she crafted shoes at Brown Shoe Co. in
Charleston; built jet airplanes during the Korean War for North American
Aerospace in Columbus, OH; and dished out many a meal at the Dutch
Pantry Restaurant in Greenup; the Old University Lanes Bowling Alley and
J&M Cafe, both in Charleston. She loved being around people and serving
others. She attended Salisbury Church.
Services will be held 2:00 PM Wed. June 6, 2001 at Caudill-King Funeral
Home. Visitation will be held 5-7 PM on Tues., at the funeral home. Burial
will be in Harmony Cemetery, North of Greenup.

Helen Reynolds
SHELBYVILLE - Helen Ann Martz (Gould) Reynolds, 66, of Shelbyville
died at 11:20 p.m. Friday (June 1, 2001) at her residence.
The private graveside service will be in Glenwood Cemetery with Rev.
Greg Breeden officiating. A time for fellowship will be at 2:30 p.m.
Tuesday in the First Church of Nazarene Fellowship Hall for family and
friends. Howe & Yockey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Oct. 25, 1934, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Franklin
Charles and Goldie Mae Giberson Martz. She married Stan Reynolds in
1992. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James M. Gould Jr. of Pana and Joseph M.
Gould of Assumption; two daughters, Janet M. Patrick of Longmont, Colo.
and Julie M. Tucker of Findlay; one step-son, Barry W. Reynolds of
Fairfield, Ohio; two step-daughters, Tracy J. Gentry of Charleston and
Melanie S. Watson of Shelbyville; three brothers, Ray Martz of Shelbyville,
Howard Martz of Palmero, Calif., and Herb Lloyd of Greenville; one sister,
Bertha M. Shields of Mattoon; 10 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren,
and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant children, one sister
and several half-brothers.
Mrs. Reynolds was a waitress and retired bartender. She was a member of
the Women of the Moose Chapter 1325 and VFW Ladies Auxiliary of
Shelbyville.
Kathalene Maulding
SULLIVAN - Kathalene Z. Maulding, 79, of Sullivan, died at 12:20 a.m.
Friday (June 1, 2001) in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the McMullin-Young Funeral
Home Sullivan. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery, Decatur. Visitation
will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
She was born on Aug. 29, 1921, a daughter of Dewey and Media B.
Johnson King. She married Reginald E. Maulding Sr. in 1944; he died in
1993.
Survivors include two sons, Reginald E. Maulding Jr. of Decatur and
Michael L. Maulding of Windsor; daughters, Brenda K. Perkins of
Thompsonville, Joyce A. Phillips of Dallas, Tex., Donna S. Brown of
Windsor and Shannon D. Maulding of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister, Alma
Stephens of Decatur; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son.
Mrs. Maulding was a member of the First Baptist Church, Sullivan.

Dorothy Reedy
DALTON CITY - Dorothy M. Cordray Reedy, 93, of Dalton City, died at
11:10 p.m. Thursday (May 31, 2001) at the Eastern Star Home, Macon.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in the McMullin-Young Funeral
Home, Bethany. Burial will be in Marrowbone Township Cemetery,
Bethany. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday with a 6:30 p.m. Eastern Star
Service at the funeral home.
She was born July 29, 1907, in Bethany, a daughter of Edd and Leona
Olive Sharp Cordray. She married Howard Edward Reedy in 1936; he died
in 1979.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay L. Gaitros of Dalton City and Betty
Robison of Nevada; sisters, Mary Snow of Decatur and Pauline Moses of
Arthur; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, six
great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter.
Mrs. Reedy was a member of the Methodist Church in Dalton City, the
OES Crystal Chapter 39 of Sullivan and the American Legion Auxiliary in
Dalton City.

Carl Furry
SHELBYVILLE - Carl E. Furry, 85, of Shelbyville, died at 9:15 p.m.
Wednesday (May 30, 2001) in Shelbyville Manor.
A private graveside service with military rites will be held Saturday morning
at Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Robert Litteral
officiating. The Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, is in charge
of arrangements.
He was born March 17, 1916, in Loxa, a son of Joel Fletcher Sr. and Ona
Niccum Furry. He married Henrietta A. Roland in 1940; she died in 1990.
Survivors include daughters, Cynthia Stretch of Shelbyville and Kathy
Endsley of Blue Mound; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Furry was a retired lineman from the Shelby Electric Cooperative. He
was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville. He was a WW
II Army veteran, was a POW and had received the Purple Heart Medal and
one Oak Leaf Cluster.
Memorials may be made to the WW II Veterans Memorial in Washington,
D.C.
Phillibena Kilman
MATTOON, IL - Phillibena (Bea) Kilman, age 90, of Mattoon, passed
away at 5:41 PM Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at the Sarah Bush Lincoln
Health Center.
Mrs. Kilman was born September 13, 1910, in Greenville, IL to John and
Helen (Dale) Spies. She married Alva M. Kilman on July 15, 1935. He
preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kilman is survived by two sons, Jerry Lee Kilman of Fayetteville,
North Carolina and John M. Kilman of Mattoon; and two daughters,
Sandra Dinkelmann and Donna Mae Oye, both of Mattoon. She also leaves
8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
two sisters.
She was formerly employed by Margie's Grill and Knowles Cafeteria. She
was a member of the Baptist Church and attended Mt. Sinai one-room
schoolhouse in Sorenta, IL as a child. She enjoyed arts, crafts and playing
Bingo.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 9th at Brown
Cemetery in Pocahontas, Illinois, with Rev. Jacob Frederick officiating.
Visitation wil be held Saturday, June 2nd from 6-8 PM at the
Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Lincolnland
Visiting Nurses.
Brian Wallace
MARSHALL - Brian Neal Wallace, 32, of Marshall, died at 10:29 p.m.
Tuesday (May 29, 2001) in Terre Haute Regional Hospital, Terre Haute,
Ind.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel, in
West Union, with the Rev. Dennis Wright officiating. Burial is in the
Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 7 a.m.
on Sunday until service time at the funeral home.
He was born July 11, 1968, in Paris, the son of Lynnzay E. and June
Burger Wallace.
Survivors include a son, Tyler Lee Wallace of Marshall; his father,
Lynnzay E. Wallace of Marshall; one sister, Angel L. Wallace Budde of
Marshall; paternal grandmother, Alberta Powell of Palestine.
He was preceded in death by his mother and other grandparents.
Mr. Wallace was a semi-trailer fabricator with Great Dane Trailers Inc.
MARIE YOUNG
Marie Harriett Young, age 74, of Gays, passed away at 10:07 p.m. on
Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the Sullivan Health Care Center.
Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the
Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Virgil Baker officiating. Burial
will be in Smyser Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until time of
service Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
Marie was born in Elkhart, Indiana on September 9, 1926, a daughter of
Warren E. and Charlotte Schulze Roose. She married Carol Dean "Pete"
Young on September 21, 1946. He passed away December 29, 2000.
Survivors include three sons, Steven C. Young and wife Ruth of Decatur,
Tex A. Young and wife Heidi of DeWitt, Michigan and Keith P. Young and
wife JoEllen of Gays; one daughter, Marsha Miller and husband Bobby of
Katy, Texas; twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers,
Warren "Buster" Roose Jr. and wife Sarah of East Alton, William Q. Roose
and wife Lela of North Augusta, South Carolina; and two sisters, Katherine
Brown of East Alton and Shirley Birmingham and husband Harvey of
Bethalto.
Marie was a homemaker. She was a member of the Moultrie County Home
Extension and a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church.

MARTHA JUNE GOSSETT
CHARLESTON, IL.- Martha June Gossett, age 78, of rural Charleston,
passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2001 at Provena Covenant Medical
Center in Urbana, Illinois. Graveside services celebrating her life will be
held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19 at Liberty Cemetery with Pastor
Scott Sims and Pastor Ray Finney officiating. There will be no visitation.
June was born June 19, 1922 in Hutton Township in Coles County, Illinois
the daughter of Sam and Bonnie (Black) Lawyer. She married Ralph S.
Gossett in Perryville, Missouri on December 17, 1940.
Survivors include Ralph, her loving husband of sixty years; one son, Larry
Gossett and his wife Vicky of Ashmore, Illinois; three grandchildren, Scott
Gossett and his wife Carrie and Sarah Gossett, all of Charleston, and Joe
Gossett of Ashmore; and, two great grandchildren, Courtney Gossett and
Allison Gossett, also of Charleston. She was preceded by her parents; a
son, Charleston William Gossett, two sisters, Maxine Black and Marjorie
Lawyer; and two brothers, Marion Black and William Kenneth Black.
June was a Charter Member of the Charleston Community Church, and
more recently attended Salisbury Church. She enjoyed flower and
vegetable gardening and hummingbirds. The foundation of her life was her
family and her five very special grandchildren and great grandchildren; and
she'll be remembered as a loving wife to Ralph and a loving and caring
mother and grandmother. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with
the Food Service at Eastern Illinois University.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral
Chapel.
Jessie L. Groves
Jessie L. Groves, 93, of Windsor, died at 5:00 a.m. Sunday (June 17, 2001)
in the Mattoon Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lovins-Lockart
Funeral Home, Windsor with Rev. Richard Eident officiating. Visitation will
be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in the Ash Grove
Cemetery, Windsor.
She was born April 29, 1908 in Neoga the daughter of Pearl and Susie
Rockwell Plummer. She married Chester Groves July 4, 1937 in Mattoon
and he preceded her in death in August of 1984.
She was a member of the Windsor Christian Church and the Ladies Aid of
the church, the Senior Bowling League, Effingham and was a volunteer and
key lady at the Heartland Christian Village, Neoga. She assisted her
husband in his ministries of the Christian Churches in Mason, Latonia,
Elkville, Patoka, West Salem, Marshall, Toledo, Jerseyville, Marshall
Avenue Church in Mattoon and Griffin, IN.
Surviving are one daughter Clara Jane Bell and husband Bob of Windsor;
grandchildren Terry Bell and wife Diane of Windsor, Barry Bell and wife
Toni of Windsor and Sherry Finley and husband Jeff of Charleston;
great-grandchildren April Bell, Robin Bell, Regan Finley, Devan Finley and
Katie Bell.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
