Gladys M. Tynan, 90, of Humboldt, died at 9:25 PM Friday, June 15,
2001 at the Arthur Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at
the Humboldt United Methodist Church, 419 Jefferson Street, Humboldt,
with Reverend Margaret Misal officiating. Burial will be in the Humboldt
Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 6:00-8:00 PM at the
Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust, Arcola.
Mrs. Tynan was born Nov. 21, 1910 in Casey, a daughter of Charles and
Lucy Smith Washburn. She married Eugene Tynan in Shelbyville on March
2, 1935. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1995.
Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Fidler and husband Ed of Arcola,
son-in-law, Roger Croy of Mattoon; 2 sisters, Lillian Chapman of Casey,
Thelma Miller of Lafayette, Indiana; 1 brother, Paul Washburn of Belaire;
5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lorene Croy on Dec. 19,
2000, and 5 brothers, Charles, Russell, Earl, Kenneth and Stanley.
Mrs. Tynan was a homemaker and a member of the Humboldt United
Methodist Church. Memorials are suggested to the church.
Shannon McNamara
ROLLING MEADOWS - Shannon E. McNamara, 21, of Rolling
Meadows, presently attending Eastern Illinois University and living in
Charleston, died Tuesday (June 12, 2001) in Charleston.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Colette Church, Rolling
Meadows. Burial will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Meadows Funeral Home in
Rolling Meadows.
She was born June 21, 1979, in Arlington Heights, the daughter of Robert
L. and Cynthia E. Koch McNamara.
Surviving are her parents of Rolling Meadows; one brother, Robert L.
McNamara; and grandparents, Margaret Koch and Robert L. McNamara.
She was preceded in death by one grandmother and one grandfather.
Miss McNamara was a senior attending Eastern Illinois University. She was
very involved with athletic competition, primarily track, and was a member
of the Alpha Phi Sorority.

Frieda Murphy
ARCOLA - Frieda Lucille Murphy, 72, of Arcola, died at 4:17 p.m.
Thursday (June 14, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home,
Neoga, with the Rev. Ron Lake officiating. Burial will be in the Neoga
Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the
funeral home.
She was born Sept. 15, 1928, in Lovington, the daughter of Robert and
Myrtle Dollar Lear.
Surviving are two sons, Patrick M. and Timothy Murphy, both of Arcola;
one sister, Donna Smethers of Sparta; three grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Joy Smith of Mattoon.
Mrs. Murphy was a retired cook from the Kaskaskia Country Club and the
Letterman's Club, both of Arcola. She was a member of the Eagles Club in
Mattoon.
Michael Roberts
CHARLESTON - Michael Ray "Mike" Roberts, 46, of Charleston, died
Friday (June 15, 2001) at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Adams Funeral Chapel with the
Pastor Scott Sims and Pastor Matt McGregor officiating. Visitation will be
5 to 7 p.m. with Masonic Rites conducted at the funeral chapel.
He was born Aug. 9, 1954, in Charleston, the son of William E. and Betty
L. Ehrsam Roberts. He married Mel Bonnell in 1985; she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Zeke Roberts of Charleston; one daughter,
Becca Roberts of Charleston; one sister, Marilyn Ellison of Ashmore; and
two brothers, Russell Roberts of Odin and Jack Walker of Charleston.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Mr. Roberts was employed by Lake Land College. He was an Army
veteran, a member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge 35 AF/AM, Ansar
Shrine, Valley of Danville Scottish Rites, American Legion Post in Mattoon
and The Patriots.

Homer Bahney Jr.
JEWETT - Homer E. Bahney Jr., 54, of Jewett, died at 9:03 a.m.
Wednesday (June 13, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. The Barkley Funeral
Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Dec. 19, 1946, in Goessel, Kan., the son of Homer and Pearl
Stubby Bahney. He married Sandra Carson in 1996; she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Homer "Trey" Bahney III of Jewett; four
stepsons, Steve Bennett of Paris, Russell Bennett of Woodbury, Robert
Carson of U.S.M.C. and John Carson of Greenup; three stepdaughters,
Peggy Hayes of Paris, Lisa Bennett of Charleston and Marci Titus of
Toledo; one brother, Jack Bahney of Shelbyville; two stepbrothers, Randy
and Dean Lock, both of Toledo; one stepsister, Donna Cinde of Lerna; and
several grandchildren.
Mr. Bahney was retired from Young's Radiator of Mattoon. He was a
member of Charleston Moose 1388, Mattoon Eagles 3438 and Sons of
America Legion.
Jerry Lock
LERNA - Jerry L. Lock, 41, of Lerna, died at 5:07 p.m. Wednesday (June
13, 2001) at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home in
Neoga with the Rev. Richard Coen officiating. Burial will be in Janesville
Cemetery, Janesville. There will be no visitation.
He was born Sept. 7, 1959, in Mattoon, the son of Lyle E. and Goldie
(Hill) Lock.
Surviving are his father and stepmother, Lyle and Linda Lock of Carmago;
one son, Bryar Lock of Mattoon; one daughter, Andrea Lock of Orange
City, Fla.; two brothers, J. Randy Lock and R. Dean Lock, both of Toledo;
one sister, Donna J. Sinde of Lerna; one half sister, Kelly J. Lock of
Tuscola; one stepbrother, Jack Bahney of Shelbyville; and two
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one stepbrother.
Mr. Lock was a retail salesman.
Edna McConnell
CHAMPAIGN - Edna L. McConnell, 81, of Champaign, formerly of
Arcola area, died at 9:28 a.m. Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Provena Covenant
in Champaign.
She was born Nov. 30, 1919, in Arcola, the daughter of George and Lillie
Lucas Stortzum. She married John McConnell in August of 1967; he
survives.
Other survivors included a stepson, Marc McConnell of Corpus Christi,
TX; a stepdaughter, Sheila Smethers of Cincinnati, Ohio; four
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Mrs. McConnell was a beautician and Instructor of Beauty Culture. She
was a member of the OES Hope Chapter #104. She loved football, knitting,
crocheting and other needlework as well as cooking.
The funeral was conducted Wednesday at the Heath and Vaughn Funeral
Home in Champaign with the Rev. Steve Bradley officiating. Burial was in
Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon. The pallbearers were Lyle,
Nathan and Steve Gannaway, J.D. Nolte, Jene Smethers and Jeff Douglas.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Crippled Childrens Hospital, St.
Louis.
Inez Whitesel
LITTLETON, Colo. - Inez L. Whitesel, 95, of Littleton, Colo., formerly of
Charleston, died at 3:20 a.m. Thursday (June 14, 2001) at Christian Living
Campus in Littleton, Colo.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Roselawn Cemetery. The
Harper-Swickard Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born July 16, 1905, in Willow Hill, the daughter of Frank and
Martha Scott Davis. She married John Whitesel II; he preceded her in
death.
Surviving is one son, John Whitesel III.
Mrs. Whitesel was a retired teacher.
Thomas Endsley
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Thomas L. Endsley, 86, of Arkadelphia, Ark.,
formerly of Coles County, died Wednesday (June 13, 2001) at Baptist
Medical Center in Arkadelphia.
A memorial service will be conducted in Charleston at a later date. The
Harper-Swickard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Jan. 25, 1915, in Coles County, the son of William "Mack"
and Minnie Harwood Endsley. He married Mary Catherine Smith; she
preceded him. He married Kathryn Swickard; she also preceded him in
death.
Surviving are one daughter, Anita Holt of Redondo Beach, Calif.; one
stepdaughter, Paula Leming of Arkadelphia; two brothers, Carroll Endsley
of Decatur and Norman Endsley of Bartonville; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Endsley was a Methodist, a teacher and an administrator, and an Army
veteran of World War II.

CLELLA F. TEMPLE
CHARLESTON, IL - Clella F. Temple, age 86, of Charleston, went to be
with the Lord on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at Prairie View Care Center.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June
16, with Reverend Jack Turner officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday
evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Services and visitation will be held at Adams
Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston. Following the services,
interment will be in Mound Cemetery, Charleston.
Clella was born March 24, 1915, in LaClede, Illinois the daughter of
Grover Cleveland and Flora Mae (Weaver) Randall. She married Harold
"Shorty" Temple in August, 1943 in Mattoon, Illinois.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne "Moe" Temple and his wife Jill of
Charleston and Stephen and his wife Carol of Granger, Indiana; two
daughters, Pamela Anne Newby and her husband Larry of Charleston and
MaryLee Temple and her husband Kenny of Effingham, Illinois; one
stepson, Glen Temple and his wife Dona of Effingham; seven
grandchildren, Glenda Taggart and her husband Tony of Oakland City,
Indiana, Rebecca Temple of Effingham, Eric Temple and his wife Karen,
Matthew Newby and his wife Krista and Joshua Newby, all of Charleston,
Kimberly Temple and Timothy Temple and his wife Nikki, all of Mattoon;
five great-grandchildren, Travis Taggart and Brooke Taggart of Oakland
City, Indiana, Ariel Hassinger and Harlie Rose Temple of Mattoon and
Matthew Richard (Ricky) Newby of Charleston; two step grandchildren,
Mona Repking and her husband Ken and Janet Ohnesorge and her husband
Doug, all of Effingham; two sisters, Enid Robertson of Edgewood, Illinois,
Cleo Schussler of Tucson, Arizona, and one brother, Edwin Randall of
Marengo, Illinois. She was preceded by her husband who went to be with
the Lord April 19, 1969; one son, Rodney D. Temple and two sisters, Eva
Humes and Cora Vincent.
Clella attended the Providence Separate Baptist Church. A retiree from the
Business Office at Charleston Memorial Hospital, she enjoyed crocheting,
sports, flower gardening, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and collecting
refrigerator magnets and beanie babies. Clella will be fondly remembered as
a loving mother and grandmother, and will be missed by her special pet, a
parakeet she called "Petie".
