ORANGE CITY, Fla. - Robert R. Smith, 79, of Orange City, Fla.,
formerly of Greenup, died Feb. 12, 2001, in Orange City, Fla.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenup Cemetery
with military rites. No visitation is planned. The Barkley Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.
He was born Mary 21, 1921, in Mena, Ark., the son of Charles and Calla
Stanberry Smith.
Surviving is one half sister, Louella Hippleheuser of Orange City, Fla.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Mr. Smith had retired from Washington National Insurance Co. in Chicago.
He was a charter member of the Greenup VFW. He was in the Coast
Guard during World War II and was a member of the American Legion.
Charles Vaughn
CHARLESTON - Charles E. Vaughn, 71, of Charleston, died at 10 a.m.
Sunday (June 10, 2001) at his residence.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Caudill-King Funeral
Home. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m.
today at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 6, 1929, in Coles County, the son of Charles "Diner"
and Mabel Pearcy Vaughn.
Surviving are his mother, Mabel Vaughn Cochran of Charleston; two
daughters, Deborah K. Oakley and Diana Vaughn, both of Charleston; two
brothers, Clarence "Chub" Vaughn of Lawrenceville and Thomas A.
Vaughn of Janesville; two sisters, Doris Linder and Mary Tucker, both of
Charleston; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Vaughn was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and retired as a
construction worker. He was a lifetime member of Charleston VFW Post
1592 and Charleston Masonic Lodge AF/AM 35.
HOWARD WELLER
HINDSBORO, ILLINOIS - Howard Mason Weller, 79, of Hindsboro died
at 2:55 AM Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Provena Covenant Medical Center in
Urbana.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 13, 2001
at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Dick Miller
officiating. Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery with military rites by the
Arcola American Legion and VFW Post.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Weller was born June 22, 1921 in Hindsboro, a son of Charles and
Ruth Cuppy Weller. He married Betty Ramsey in Hendersonville,
Kentucky on July 20, 1940.
She survives.
Besides his wife Betty, he is survived by 2 sons, Larry Weller of
Brooksville, Florida, Dick Weller and wife Linda of Hindsboro; a brother,
Norman Weller and wife Joy of Houston, Texas; a sister, Marjorie
Harrington and husband Jim of Arcola; 3 grandchildren, Wendy Weller of
Chicago, Devon Weller and wife Janet of Nashville, Tennessee and
Thomas Weller of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Mr. Weller was raised on a farm northwest of Hindsboro where he
attended Duffle Grade School and completed his education graduating from
high school in Hindsboro. He then moved to Connersville, Indiana and built
planes during the first part of World War II. He joined the Navy and was
stationed in California.
After his discharge in 1945, he moved back to the Hindsboro area and
pursued a farming career at which time he worked as a grain elevator
manager for VanGundy Grain, also worked for Sohigro Fertilizer Company,
and worked for Clapp and Ghere Construction in Arcola. He was a postal
carrier in Tuscola for several years, and then was hired as the Hindsboro
Postmaster from 1971 until retiring in 1985. He was active in 4-H, ASCS,
Farm Extension work, Citizen Advisory Council and other local
organizations. He was a member of the Kemp Church of Christ.
After retirement, he made his home in Brooksville, Florida during the
winter and returned to the farm in the summer. He was an avid golfer and
always enjoyed his family and friends.

Marjorie Wirey
MARTINSVILLE - Marjorie Wirey, 85, of rural Martinsville, died at 5
p.m. Sunday (June 10, 2001) at Heartland Manor Nursing Home in Casey.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Greenwell Funeral Home in
Martinsville. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Clark County.
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born April 30, 1916, in Martinsville, the daughter of Harry and
Lillie Belle Thompson Napier. She married J. Marlin Wirey in 1933; he
died in 1965.
Surviving are one son, Paul Wirey of Martinsville; one brother, Delbert
Napier of Martinsville; and three grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter and one grandchild.
Mrs. Wirey retired from Burnside Nursing Home in Marshall as a dietary
aid. She was a member of the Island Grove Baptist Church.
BEULAH COX
Beulah Gladys Cox, age 93, of Mattoon, passed away at 4:55 a.m. Sunday,
June 10, 2001, at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday
at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. E.E. Elliott officiating.
Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from
noon until service time Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home.
Beulah was born January 7, 1908, in Cumberland County, a daughter of
Alonzo A. Sparks and Essie Gentry Sparks. She married Howard W. Cox
on April 16, 1932. He passed away December 14, 1965. She was also
preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.
Survivors include two sons, Carl W. Cox and wife Jan Kelly Cox of
Mattoon and Dr. Howard W. Cox and wife Mary Sellner Cox of
Bloomfield, Mich.; one sister, Ellen Reed of Mattoon; three grandchildren,
Carla Cox Waters and husband Tim of Watseka, Steven L. Cox and wife
Alisa of Pineland, Fla. David Cox and wife Cheryl of Mattoon; seven
great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cox was formerly employed as a legal secretary for forty five years
for the firm of Kiger and Dilsaver and later Dilsaver and Gilkerson. She
was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School
class. Beulah served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and taught a
children's Sunday School class for several years.
Memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church.
Robert Foltz
GRAYVILLE - Robert Foltz, 68, of Grayville, formerly of Oakland, died at
11:25 p.m. Saturday (June 9, 2001) at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville,
Ind.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Oakland
Cemetery with Pastor Don Funk officiating. There will be no visitation.
Taber Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of the arrangements. Military
graveside rites will be conducted by the Oakland VFW No. 3637.
He was born Oct. 24, 1932, in rural Oakland, the son of Forrest and Mary
Osburn Foltz.
Surviving are one sister, Theresa Seward of Lerna; two nephews and one
niece.
Mr. Foltz was a teacher and U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the
Oakland Christian Church, the Sheba Masonic Lodge of Grayville and
Grayville American Legion.
Virgil Griffith
GREENUP - Virgil H. Griffith 92, of Greenup, died at 6:04 p.m. Saturday
(June 9, 2001) at Heartland Manor Nursing Center.
A graveside funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Greenup
Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Pearce officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to
8 p.m. Monday at the Barkley Funeral Home in Greenup.
He was born March 29, 1909, in Hidalgo, the son of Howard and Allie
Griffith. He married Fannie Adkisson in 1930. She survives.
Mr. Griffith was a retired farmer and U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He
was a member of the Greenup American Legion and Charleston Elks Club.
Lorraine Haenny
WINDSOR - Lorraine G. Haenny, age 83, of Windsor, formerly of
Westfield, passed away at 8:50 p.m. Saturday (June 9, 2001) at the Odd
Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Markwell & Son
Funeral Home in Casey with the Reverend Joe Grozik officiating. Burial
will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Westfield. Visitation will be from
4:00-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Lorraine was born May 27, 1918 in Nokomis, a daughter of Ewald and
Sarah Jane (Taulbee) Sandner. She married William T. Haenny in 1946.
He preceded her in death in 1994.
Surviving are one son, William T. Haenny and wife Carol of Decatur; one
step-son, Mike Haenny and wife Anneliese of Oregon; one daughter, Betty
Jean Smock and husband Robert of Casey; one step-daughter, Kae
Clearwater of Edwardsville; one sister, Doris Kelly of Hicksville, N.Y.; two
grandsons, Jeremy and Ryan Smock; four granddaughters, Sarah Smock,
Melissa Haenny, Tanya Lacefield, and Becky Bonney; and two
great-grandchildren, Emma Lacefield and Natasha Smock.
Mrs. Haenny was a retired executive secretary and member of the United
Methodist Church in Westfield.
Memorials may be made to the Fairview Memorial Garden-Casey Fairview
Park.
Eleanor Lowrie
Eleanor P. Lowrie, 75, of Champaign, formerly of Sullivan and Phoenix,
AZ, died at 3:20 am Saturday (June 9, 2001) in Manor Care Health Care
Center, Champaign.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 pm Monday at the Reed Funeral Home,
Sullivan. Graveside funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday at Greenhill
Cemetery, Sullivan. Visitation will be from 6-7 pm at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
Mrs. Lowrie was born on July 18, 1925 in Lovington, the daughter of
William M. and Jennie B. Reynolds Cole.
Eleanor was a graduate of Sullivan High School. She attended the Eastern
Illinois University and graduated from Arizona State College at Tempe, AZ
with a B.A. in Education. Eleanor was a grade school teacher for over 40
years.
Survivors include two brothers, William Cole of St. Joseph and Clifton Cole
of Mattoon and ten nephews and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Richard Pearcy
STREAMWOOD - Richard Nelson Pearcy, 47, of Streamwood, formerly of
Charleston, died at 2:01 p.m. Sunday (June 10, 2001) at St. Alexis Hospital
in Hoffman Estates.

Charleston.
