Marjorie Randolph
MATTOON - Marjorie G. Randolph, 98, of Mattoon died at 2:44 a.m.
Sunday (July 15, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral
Home with Dr. Mark Prevo officiating. Burial will be in Dodge Grove
Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the
funeral home.
She was born Oct. 7, 1902, in Viroqua, Wis., the daughter of Herbert and
Mina Ann Hockenberry Nale. She married Clifford F. Randolph in 1953.
He died in 1979.
Surviving are two sons, Harley R. Oakley of Mattoon and Charles F.
"Chuck" Oakley of Rock Island; one brother, Bernard Nale of Mattoon;
and 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and several
great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter and one sister.
Mrs. Randolph was a life member of the Women of the Moose Chapter
312, Eagles Lodge, and Mattoon Senior Citizens. She attended Hopewell
Baptist Church in Johnstown.
CARL RHOADES
CHARLESTON, IL - Carl Rhoades, age 66 of Charleston, passed away on
Sunday, July 15, 2001 at his home. Graveside services celebrating his life
will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18 at Roselawn Cemetery in
Charleston with Reverend Jack Turner officiating. Military Rites will be
conducted by the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey
Post 1592 of Charleston. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from
6:00-8:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive.
Carl was born June 6, 1935 in Sardinia, Ohio the son of Orval and Viola
(Rickey) Rhoades. He married Carol McKenzie in Sardinia on January 22,
1955.
Carl is survived by his loving wife Carol of Charleston; two daughters,
Roxanne Steeples and her husband Larry of Sardinia and Cherie
Huddlestun and her husband Matt of Charleston; five grandchildren,
Christopher Hunter and his wife Carolyn of Williamsburg, Ohio, Carl
Jamison "Jamie" Hunter and his wife Robin of Mt. Orab, Ohio, Kevin
Hunter and his wife Julie of Williamstown, Kentucky and Jared Tanner and
Jada Huddlestun, both of Charleston; his mother, Viola Rhoades of
Sardinia; and his dog, Carly. He was preceded in death by his father and
one sister, Connie Wells.
Carl was a member of the Sardinia Church of Christ, the Kansas, Illinois
American Legion, Ohio Valley Military Society and Charleston Moose
Lodge #1388. Delivering Trailmobile manufactured truck trailers brought
Carl and his family to this area. Earlier he had delivered for the Danbury
Company and more recently with Rex "n" Don Van Lines of Charleston.
He was a collector of military memorabilia, enjoyed listening to music and
playing his guitar. He held special feelings for animals of all kinds. He was a
Military Veteran having served with the United States Army from
1959-1961. He will be remembered by Carol, a long-time real estate agent
in Charleston, his children and grandchildren as a kind and loving person
whose best times were with his family.

JOHN STULL
John David Stull, age 64, of Mattoon, passed away at 8:06 p.m. on
Thursday, July 12, 2001 at the Mattoon Health Care Center.
Graveside services celebrating his life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at
the Jewett Cemetery with the Reverend Jim Dona officiating. No visitation
is planned. The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
John was born February 25, 1937, in Mattoon, a son of Bert A. and Edith
Marie Peterson Stull. He married Janet Kay McQueen Sanders on June 19,
1986.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Kay Stull of Mattoon; two daughters,
Phyllis McCoy and husband William "Bill" of Gays and Crystal Sanders of
Mattoon; two sons, John David Stull Jr. and partner Jackie of Memphis,
Tenn. and Chad Sanders of Mattoon; three grandchildren, Jordan, Justin
and Kaitlyn; one brother, Jack Stull of Lowell, Ind.; several nieces and
nephews, including special niece, Virginia Patrick of Mattoon; and several
great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
Mrs. Stull worked in sanitation and also construction for the late, "Bub"
Young. He was a member of the Eagles Club in Mattoon.
Memorials may be made to the family.
JAMES WHITLEY
James Oren "Jim" Whitley, age 65, of Mattoon, passed away at 3:20 p.m.
on Friday, July 13, 2001 at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at
the Schilling Funeral Home with Father Herman J. Niebrugge officiating.
Burial will follow in the Upper Muddy Cemetery, southeast of Mattoon.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. this (Monday) evening at the
funeral home.
Jim was born September 26, 1935 in Mattoon, a son of Oliver O. and
Beulah Cornell Whitley.
Survivors include close friends, Norris and Karen Gill of Mattoon, Norris
Gill Jr. of Mattoon, Kyle Gill and wife Michelle of Mattoon; and an aunt
Josephine Abrams of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty Whitley
Jewel and Jean Whitley Wisley.
Mr. Whitley retired from Associated Spring after twenty years of service.
In later years he worked for Blaw Knox and Rogala Public Links. He was a
member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, the
Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Memorial gifts are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
Joseph Elam
PARIS - Joseph R. Elam, 85, of Paris, died at 6 p.m. Thursday (July 12,
2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Sutton and Son Funeral Home,
Paris, with the Rev. Deborah McClarey officiating. Burial will be in
Embarrass Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral
home.
He was born March 16, 1916, in Edgar County, the son of Ranze Elam and
Mary Burton Elam. He married Mildred Dennison in 1937; she died in
1974.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald Elam of Oakland and Floyd Dennis Elam of
Paris; one daughter, Patricia McConkey of Oakland; one sister, Fern Austin
of Paris; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
Mr. Elam had retired from Stewart Wire Company and farming. He was a
member of the Paris Christian Church.
JOY HAYES
CHARLESTON, IL - Joy Hayes, age 73 of Charleston, passed away on
Thursday, July 12, 2001 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Graveside
services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 16
at Hardinville Cemetery in Hardinville, Illinois. Visitation will be held
Sunday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel. The Ladies
Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post 1592 of
Charleston will conduct special services during the visitation, beginning at
6:45 p.m.
Joy was born November 22, 1927 in Bunker, Missouri the daughter of
Lebert and Frances (Lowrance) Wilkins. She married Vincent Brock in
1944. Following Vincent's death in 1966, she married Charles "Chuck"
Hayes in 1973.
She is survived by her husband Chuck of Charleston; one daughter, Vineta
Springer of Charleston; one son, Gary Brock and his wife Jana of
Nashville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Jana Fisher and her husband
Andrew and Dana Kwarteng and her husband Kenneth, all of Florissant,
Missouri, Sarah Jo Brock of Mudelein, Illinois and Candi Avila and her
husband Ed of Round Lake, Illinois; one sister, Shirley Wilkins of
Robinson, Illinois; four great-grandchildren; and, several nieces and
nephews. She was also preceded by her parents, three brothers, Amel
Wilkins, Delbert Wilkins and Bobby Gene Wilkins; one sister, Chloe Harris,
one son, Vincent Brock, Jr.; and one stepson, Robert Hayes.
Joy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Robinson and
the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post
1592 of Charleston. Family and friends were the centerpiece of her life;
grandchildren and great-grandchildren provided her with an abundance of
love which she generously returned in a manner that would cause any
grandmother to be proud. She enjoyed cooking, especially baking cobblers.
A gracious and loving woman who never met a stranger, Joy will be
remembered by many during the twenty-two years she and Chuck owned
and operated the Ranch House Restaurant in Ashmore. Prior to the Ranch
House, she was employed at the Ettelbrick Shoe Company in Robinson,
Illinois, the Brown Shoe Company in Charleston and the R. R. Donnelley
Company in Mattoon.

William Midgett
WINDSOR - William "Harry" Midgett, 73, of Windsor, formerly of
Rodanthe, N.C., died at 9:15 p.m. Thursday (July 12, 2001) at his
residence.
The funeral and burial will be Monday in Rodanthe, N.C. The
Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge of local arrangements.
He was born in Waves, N.C., the son of St. Clair and Mamie (Midgett)
Midgett. He married Eunice Knight; she survives.
Also surviving are four sons, William E. Midgett of Orange Park, Fla.,
Harry Midgett of Potomac Falls, Va., Irvin Midgett of Rodanthe, N.C., and
Timothy Midgett of Windsor; three daughters, Connie Hatcher of
Middlesburg, Fla., Virginia O'Neal of Rodanthe, N.C., and Joyce Midgett
of Windsor; three sisters, Lennie Midgett of Rodanthe, N.C., Jennetta
Williams of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Alice Bundy of Norfolk, Va.; 10
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Midgett was a retired U.S. Navy Chief ADRC with 22 years of service.
He was a member of the Fairhaven United Methodist Church, the VFW
Post 04226 and Fleet Reserve A03422.
Enid Misner
MARTINSVILLE - Enid Misner, 82, of Martinsville, died at 5:10 p.m.
Thursday (July 12, 2001) at her residence.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Willow Creek Cumberland
Presbyterian Church, Martinsville, with the Rev. Kevin Small officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at
the Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville.
She was born Feb. 18, 1919, in Orange Township, Clark County, the
daughter of Clayton and Lola Hart Buckner. She married Raymond Misner
in 1946; he died in 1978.
Surviving are one son, Jerald Misner of Martinsville; two daughters, Sharon
Napier of Martinsville and Bonnie Smith of Monticello; one brother, Enos
Buckner of Martinsville; three sisters, Imo Calvert, Leota Chapman and
Janet Staley, all of Martinsville; and six grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Misner owned and operated the Moonshine Store located in Clark
County. She was a lifelong member of the Willow Creek Cumberland
Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
ROSALIE RENNELS
Rosalie Elma Rennels, age 98, of Mattoon, passed away at 10:20 a.m. on
Friday, January 12, 2001, at the Mattoon Health Care Center.
Graveside memorial services celebrating her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on
Monday, July 16, 2001, at the Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston with the
Reverend Eugene Black officiating. The Schilling Funeral Home is in
charge of the arrangements.
Rosalie was born December 19, 1902 in Cherryvale, Kansas, a daughter of
Frank and Mary Johnson Rennels. Miss Rennels was an elementary school
teacher for Community Unit #2 for many years. She loved children and
taught at the former Lowell School in Mattoon. She also enjoyed her many
travels, both foreign and domestic, and lived several years in both New
Jersey and New York. She was a member of the First United Methodist
Church in Mattoon.
Survivors include several nephews; dearly loved adopted aunt of Caryl D.
Johnson and Sara D. Rothenberger; dearly loved adopted great-aunt of
Stephen H. Friend, Alexander L. Friend and Bruce C. Rothenberger; and
special friend, Lenore Aebischer of Charleston.
Miss Rennels was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Rennels.
Memorial gifts are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.
