WILLIAM S. REASOR
CHARLESTON, IL - On July 10, 2001 the factory-built housing industry
lost a giant. It also lost a brilliant businessman of unassailable integrity, a
devoted husband, father, grandfather and a perfect friend to many. William
S. "Bill" Reasor passed away this past Tuesday morning at the Munson
Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan, where he had been hospitalized
since suffering a heart attack on July 4. He was surrounded by his wife
Ferne his daughters and other family members as he passed peacefully.
Services celebrating Bill's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow
(Saturday) at the First Presbyterian Church, 311 Seventh Street in
Charleston. Reverend Susan Reichenberg will officiate. Interment will
follow the services in Roselawn Cemetery, also in Charleston. Visitation
will be held this evening (Friday) from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral
Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive.
Bill, of Granger, Indiana and formerly of Charleston, was born March 9,
1939 in Charleston, the son of Walter Henry and Ruth Ellen (Hawley)
Reasor. He married Ferne Blackshire at the Ashmore Baptist Church in
Ashmore, Illinois on July 3,1958.
He is survived by Ferne, his wife of forty-three years; four daughters,
Pamela Reasor Hanebutt and her husband Randy, Deborah Reasor
Beccasio and her husband Anthony, Melissa "Gator" Reasor and her
partner Rita Luce, all of Chicago and Stephanie Reasor Holcomb and her
husband Rick of Mokena, Illinois; four grandchildren, Andrew J. Hanebutt
and Kelsey M. Hanebutt of Chicago and Jeffrey D. Holcomb and Lisa M.
Holcomb of Mokena and Baby Beccasio due to arrive in August; his
mother, Ruth Ellen Reasor of Orland Park, Illinois; four sisters, Julie
Fischer and her husband Greg of Naperville, Illinois, Margaret "Peg" Davis
and her husband Joseph of Mokena, Catherine Stickann and her husband
Richard of Columbia, Missouri and Melanie Budhill and her husband Bruce
of Macon, Georgia; one brother, John Reasor of St. Charles, Missouri; and
his Schnauzer, Smoltz, named after the outstanding pitcher for his beloved
Atlanta Braves. He was preceded by his father and one sister, Maribeth
Higginbotham.
Volumes can be spoken of Bill's achievements in the factory-built housing
industry from succeeding his father as CEO & President of The Reasor
Corporation in 1973 to President of Scholz Homes, Inc., Executive Vice
President of Operations of Marley Continental Homes, Inc., President of
Kaplan Building Systems, Inc., President of Textone, Inc., President of
Chairworld, Inc., CEO & President of Terre Quest Homes, Inc., COO &
President of Crest Homes and most recently as one of four founders of
Pleasant Street Homes, LLC and iBS Homes. Two of his peers recently
gave this tribute -"A simple work history doesn't really capture what we
want you to know about Bill Reasor, the human being. Over three decades
we never saw Bill compromise his integrity. Ever! If he made any enemies,
we don't remember them. He did make innumerable friendships. Bill was a
teacher, a mentor and a leader. There are an incredible number of people
who were nurtured by Bill and look upon him as the founder of their
careers. We learned more from Bill than we can calculate or describe. He
was somewhere between our friend and our brother."
Bill's colleagues were his extended family, but the first three objectives in
his List of Lifetime Ambitions were "spending quality time with Ferne (his
high school sweetheart) and doing those things we enjoy doing together",
"being able to spend time with our daughters and their families on a regular
basis", and "to get to know our grandchildren one-on-one". His love for
family and auto racing led him to organize a Reasor family reunion at the
Indy 500, an annual event that began forty-three years ago and was
attended this year by eighty-nine Reasor descendants and close family
friends. He always set aside time for family vacations, golfing with his
son-in-laws and antiquing, cooking and gardening with Ferne. Tradition was
important to him, kindled in part by his passion for history. He loved his
God and his country. Those close to Bill knew that he loved a challenge,
displayed an awesome sense of humor, embraced everyone he met and
kept in touch with his friends.
He received a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Eastern Illinois
University in 1965, and while residing in Charleston served as a member
and president of the Charleston Community Unit District 1 School Board.
Memorials in honor of Bill may be made to the American Heart
Association, and may be made at the visitation or services, or mailed to
Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
