MATTOON - Lyle E. Robbins, 87, of Mattoon, died at 6:03 a.m.
Thursday (July 5, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Drummond
Cemetery, rural Neoga, with the Rev. Jim Dona officiating. Visitation will
be 9 to 10 a.m. at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home.
He was born March 15, 1914, in Seymour, the son of Robert and Eva Cox
Robbins. He married Berdina Eveland in 1972; she survives.
Also surviving are two stepsons, Richard and Donald Nichols; one
stepdaughter, Barbara Johnson of Kentucky; four sisters, Marjorie Peters
of Champaign, Maxine Ruwe of St. Joseph, Dorothy Burr of Savoy and
Mildred Davis of Muskegon, Mich.; and one half sister, Roberta Blaichner
of Findlay, Ohio.
Mr. Robbins was retired from the Mattoon Park District and a volunteer
worker for CCAR in Charleston. He was a member of the Broadway
Christian Church.
Edwin Robison
Edwin "Ed" Leland Robison, age 59, of Decatur, MI, passed away Wed.,
July 4, 2001 at home. Ed was born June 28, 1942, in Mattoon, IL, the son
of Marvin and Goldie (Hite) Robison. He married Loretta Eggers March
21, 1967 in Charleston, IL, and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter,
Robin (John) Renfro of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; a son, Don (Sophie)
Robison, U.S. Air Force, Hurlburt Field A.F.B., FL; three grandsons,
Justin, Joshua and Christian; two granddaughters, Jenny and Crissy; two
brothers, James (Linda) Robison of Chesterfield, VA, Fred (Patty) Robison
of Neoga, IL; a special little friend, Kelli Ruff of Decatur, MI; two uncles
Dean Hite and Glenn Hite both of Mattoon, IL; and an aunt, Mildred Hite
of Mattoon, IL. He was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Jr.; mother,
Goldie Hite Roark; father, Marvin Robison; and stepfather, Don Roark.
Friends may call after 12 noon Sun. in the Newell Funeral Home, Decatur,
MI, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with Rev. Michael Heflin
officiating. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. (IL, time) Mon. in Dodge
Grove Cemetery, Mattoon, IL.
Robert Sanner Jr.
BETHANY - Robert L. Sanner, Jr., 85, of Bethany, died on July 4, 2001,
at 8:20 a.m. in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the McMullin-Young
Funeral Home, Bethany, with the Rev. Charles Witte officiating. Visitation
will be Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial with military
rites will be in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany. Memorials:
Christian Church, Bethany or the Historical Society of Shelby County.
Mr. Sanner was born on October 21, 1915, in Shelby County, the son of
Robert L. and Jennie B. Shipman Sanner Sr. He was in the Army-Air
Corps during WW II, and a retired farmer, member of the Christian Church
of Bethany, Historical Society of Shelby County, Shelby County Drainage
District Commissioner. He married Fay Marie Elliott on April 1, 1950, in
Bethany and she survives.
Also surviving is a daughter, Kay Ann Jones and husband William L. of
Slidell, LA.; grandchildren, Margaret Ann and Daniel William Jones of
Slidell, LA; brothers, Daniel D. Sanner and Austin R. Sanner of Bethany;
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Geneva and one brother, Orville.
Geraldine Stierwalt
TOLEDO - Geraldine Stierwalt, 83, of Toledo, died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday
(July 3, 2001) at her residence.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at the Barkley Funeral Home in Toledo
with the Rev. Marvin Flowers officiating. Burial will be in Toledo
Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral
home.
She was born Feb. 6, 1918, in Toledo, the daughter of Gilbert and
Marguerite Keller Redfern. She married Clema Stierwalt in 1938; he died in
1977.
Surviving are three sons, Larry and Randall Stierwalt, both of Toledo, and
Keith Stierwalt of Mattoon; one brother, Richard Redfern of Toledo; one
sister, Lilis Morgan of Toledo; four grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Stierwalt was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and one
grandchild.
Lucinda Stroud
EFFINGHAM - Lucinda M. Stroud, 84, of Effingham, formerly of
Wheeler, died at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday (July 4, 2001) at Sunbridge Care
Center, Effingham.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wright Funeral Home,
Dieterich, with the Rev. Cord Bear officiating. Burial will be in Baily
Cemetery in rural Wheeler. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral
home.
She was born Feb. 16, 1917, in Jasper County, the daughter of Perry and
Dora Clagg Bailey. She married Jesse Stroud in 1935; he preceded her in
death.
Surviving are one son, James Stroud of Lerna; one daughter, Betty Pollard
of Salem; one sister, Sybil Hitz of Gilman; 15 grandchildren; 22
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters and one
step-grandchild.
Mrs. Stroud was a retired factory worker, and a member of the Wheeler
Christian Church and Royal Neighbors of America.

Jerry Yoder
LOVINGTON - Jerry J. Yoder Jr., 46, of rural Lovington, died at 3:35
p.m. Wednesday (July 4, 2001) at his residence.
The funeral will be 9 a.m. Saturday at the Lewis Yoder residence. Burial
will be in the Otto Cemetery, Arthur. Visitation will be anytime until
services. The McMullin-Young Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Sept. 2, 1954, the son of Jerry S. and Alta E. Yoder.
Surviving are three brothers, Edwin Yoder of Arcola, Henry Yoder of
Tuscola and Lewis Yoder of Lovington; and five sisters, Kathryn Yoder of
Lovington, Mary Schrock of Sullivan, Anna Troyer and Elnora Mullet,
both of Sugarcreek, Ohio, and Susan Miller of Arthur.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Mr. Yoder was a member of the Old Order Amish.
Juanita Blagg
CHARLESTON - Juanita Blagg, 81, of Charleston, died at
7:06 p.m. Tuesday (July 3, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln
Health Center.
A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the
Hurricane Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Boaz officiating.
Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the
Harper-Swickard Funeral Home.
She was born Aug. 28, 1919, in Oakland, the daughter of
Clyde and Mable Haddock Blagg.
Surviving are three brothers, John Blagg of Mattoon,
Robert Blagg of Charleston and Joe Blagg of Marshall.
Memorials may be made to Tull House in Charleston.
OMER C. DAILY
ARTHUR, ILLINOIS - Omer Clyde Daily, 88 of Arthur,
died at 10:15 PM Monday, July 2, 2001 at the Odd
Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, July 6,
2001 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street,
Arcola, with the Reverend Scott Kozisek officiating. Burial
will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Cooks Mills.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at the
funeral home.
Mr. Daily was born Sept. 6, 1912 in Coles County, a son
of Harry and Irma Ellison Daily.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Karen Daily of Arthur;
and 4 nieces, Alice Deninger and husband Warren of
Decatur, Kay Horn and husband Dan of Mattoon, Lynn
Funck and husband David of Goshen, New York, and
Jean Daily of Mattoon. He was preceded in death by 3
brothers.
Mr. Daily was a retired farmer and a member of the Coles
County Farm Bureau and the Quinn Chapel Methodist
Church.
Ruth Harlow
WOODLAWN - Ruth Pearl Harlow, 90, of Woodlawn,
died at 4 a.m. Tuesday (July 3, 2001) at her residence.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Woodlawn
Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Auxier and the Rev.
Roger Lipe officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon
Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at
the church and after 9 a.m. on Friday. The Hughey
Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born July 15, 1910, in Woodlawn, the daughter of
Earnest W. and Mary Wilson Hails. She married Joseph
Leo Harlow in 1930; he died in 1986.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Gary of Mattoon and
Marie Gilbert of Warren, Mich.; two sisters, Edith
Robinson and Ruby Savage, both of Navarre, Fla.; 16
grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and eight
great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son and one
brother.
Mrs. Harlow retired after teaching 30 years in Jefferson
County schools. She was a member of the Woodlawn
Baptist Church, Jefferson County Historical Society and
the Genealogical Society. She and her husband operated
the Mt. Vernon Rescue Mission for many years.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice Program at St.
Mary's/Good Samaritan Hospital or the Woodlawn Baptist
Church Debt retirement fund.
JOHN LAWHORN
John E. Lawhorn, age 62, of Mattoon, passed away at
11:58 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2001, at the St. John's Hospital
in Springfield.
Funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 1:30 p.m.
on Friday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the
Reverend Robert C. Clark officiating. Burial will follow in
the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from
5:00-8:00 p.m. this (Thursday) evening at the funeral
home.
John was born July 26, 1938 in Mattoon, the son of
Clarence E. and Flossie Hardin Lawhorn. He married
Marleen K. Rapozo on May 2, 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Marleen Lawhorn of Mattoon;
two daughters, Diana L. Lawhorn of Mattoon and
Kimberly K. Thomson and husband David of Charleston;
and one grandson, Hunter W. Thomson of Charleston.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael, his parents
and two sisters.
Mr. Lawhorn worked for the former U.S.I. (Quantum
Chemicals) in Tuscola, Gulf Central Pipeline and the
Mattoon Moose Lodge, of which he was a member. He
was a U.S. Army veteran.
