Leah M. Jehling, 78, of Columbia died Oct. 16 [2003]. She was the wife of Marvin J. Jehling. They were married May 18, 1946. Other survivors include a son Thomas J. (Barbara) Jehling, a daughter Barbara Lea (Don Schult) Jehling; two grandchildren; a niece and a nephew. She was born Sept. 11, 1925 at Waterloo the daughter of William C. and Elsie (Goeddel) Kolmer. A sister, Betty Cash, preceded her in death. She retired as a sales clerk from Famous Barr. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home where a funeral was Oct. 20 the Rev. Kim Kelly officiating. Burial was at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.
Marvin E. Rodenberg, 69, of Fults died Oct. 16 [2003]. He was the husband of Loretta Rodenberg nee Rippelmeyer. Mr. Rodenberg was born March 31, 1934 at Fults the son of the late Otto and Louisa Rodenberg nee Schmidt. Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Mentel, Sandra (Julian) Ron and Shelly (Ken) Schneider; a son, Ricky (Karen) Rodenberg; a brother Earl (Glenna) Rodenberg; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home with a funeral Oct. 18 the Rev. Ivan Horn officiating. Burial was at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.
Lavina Susewind, 102, of Waterloo died Oct. 16 [2003]. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth Susewind nee Klostermann and was born April 11, 1901. Survivors include cousins and friends. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home with a funeral service at St. Paul UCC and burial at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.
Valerie S. Slaughter Binger, 37, of Waterloo died Oct. 15 [2003]. She was the daughter of Viola Mehrtens and the late Cletus J. Slaughter. Survivors include a son Eric Slaughter and a daughter Clara Slaughter; two sisters, Angela (Barry) Pinkelton and Tina Jeffers; a brother Herbert Mehrtens, Jr.; stepfather Herbert Mehrtens; stepbrother Gary (Wanda) Mehrtens; stepsisters, Rebecca (Steve) Morrison and Lisa (Kevin) Tinsley; grandmother Dorothy Haney. She was an employee of Human Support Services. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home where a funeral was conducted Oct. 17. Burial was at Holy Cross Lutheran
Betty Ann Miller, nee Huebner, 72, of Waterloo died Oct. 15 [2003]. She was the wife of David Miller and the daughter of the late William and Mathilda (nee Weber) Huebner. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, Daniel (Anita) Miller and John (Susan) Miller; a daughter Julie (Scott) Sinn; six grandchildren and other relatives. There was no visitation or funeral. A reception in her memory was at her home Sunday, Oct. 26. Quernheim Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Lucille A. Whelan, nee Johanning, 93, of Waterloo died Oct. 9 [2003]. She was the wife of the late Edward G. Whelan and was born June 17, 1910 the daughter of the late Henry and Christina Johanning nee Schmeding. Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Geri) Whelan and Donald (Janet) Whelan; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was Oct. 11 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at Wartburg the Rev. Steven MacDougall officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
Reginald Carver, 74, of Columbia died Oct. 7 [2003] at Columbia Convalescent Center. His wife Patricia A. survives him (Strus) Carver. They were married Dec. 22, 1956. Other survivors include two sons, Joe (Susan) Carver and Jim Carver; a daughter Jan (Chris) Schoenhoff; a sister Barbara (Bob) Valentine; a brother Charles (Mary) Carver; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Mr. Carver was born Feb. 26, 1928 at Boonville, MO. He was the son of the late Roy Lee and Sadie F. (Sachsenheimer) Carver. A brother Leon Carver also preceded him in death. He retired as a teacher, coach and athletic director at Valmeyer High School with 36 years of service. Mr. Carver was a staff sergeant in the Air Force during World Ward II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and American Legion Post 202 in Columbia, MO. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home where a funeral was Saturday, Oct. 11 the Rev. Bill Groennert officiating. Burial was at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery.
Arline M. Gant, 88, of Waterloo died Oct. 6 [2003]. He was the husband of Mary Gant nee Dinan. Other survivors include three sons, James (Claudia) Gant, Robert (Pam) Gant, Lawrence (Noreen) Gant; two daughters, Lori (Glenn) Reams and Rita Bachelier (John Fries); 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a retired meat cutter and a member of Metzger-Crook VFW Post 6504 and SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Mr. Gant was born Oct. 28,1914 at Fults the son of the late James L. and Gertrude Gant nee Abell. Besides his parents, an infant brother and a sister, Mildred Conrad, preceded him in death. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was Oct. 9 at SS Peter and Paul Church with Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
