BRIDGEPORT - Leota Madeline Schoffstall, 85, of Bridgeport, died at 3:05 p.m. Saturday (July 28, 2001) at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. today at the Sivert-Macey and Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner. Burial will be in Waggoner Cemetery, north of Chauncey.
She was born Dec. 1, 1915, in Lawrence County, the daughter of Alva and Emma Rodrick Shank. She married Luther Cleon Schoffstall in 1935; he survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Fred Schoffstall of Lawrenceville, Dan Schoffstall of Haubstadt, Ind., and Larry Schoffstall of Arthur; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Schoffstall was a switchboard operator for Chauncey Telephone Company and a member of the Landes United Methodist Church.
Glenn C. Veach
CHARLESTON - Glenn C. Veach, age 85, of Charleston, passed away at 7:25 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2001 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Skinner officiating. Interment will follow in Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2001 at the funeral home with Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m.
Glenn C. Veach was born May 30, 1916 at Charleston, Illinois, a son of Albert Franklin "Bert" and Ivy Myrtle Richards Veach. He married Maxine Scott December 5, 1937 at Charleston, she survives. Also surviving are his children, Larry G. Veach of Lerna and Jack W. Veach and his wife Sue of Charleston; grandchildren, Joe and Rick Veach of Charleston, Alex Veach of Mattoon and Mike Veach of Effingham; five great-grandchildren and special friend Catherine J. Veach. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Veach retired in 1979 as a plumber with Local 419 in Champaign. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
KENNETH B. HASH
CHARLESTON, IL - Kenneth B. Hash, age 83 and former Charleston businessman, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2001 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Visitation will be held this evening (Monday) from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services celebrating his life will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Clark officiating. Visitation and services will be held at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive. Interment will follow the services at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston.
Kenny, as he was known by his many friends, was born June 4, 1918 in Lerna, Illinois the son of Frank L. and Carrie (Hammond) Hash. He married Betty D. Hughes in Mattoon, Illinois on March 6, 1937. She preceded him on October 10, 1997.
Survivors include three daughters, Janice Furlong and her husband Joseph of Charleston, Diane Kidwell and her husband Tom of Mattoon and Nancy Mathews and her husband Jim of Effingham, Illinois; one son, Greg Hash and his wife Robyn of Charleston; thirteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Shutts of Mattoon. He was preceded by his wife, his parents, one grandchild, two brothers and three sisters.
Kenny was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston. Many will remember his as the Manager of Furste's Auto Supply, Owner and Operator of Ken's Sunoco, a service station that originated as Ken's DX, and Ken's Five Point Garage, all auto related businesses in Charleston. Earlier he had been employed at the Brown Shoe Company, Charleston facility. Kenny worked hard at everything he did, from being a loving and caring family man to making certain that his life and the lives of his family and friends were filled with fun and laughter. Known as a prankster, and a very good one he was, Kenny also enjoyed vegetable gardening, woodworking, playing the organ and harmonica.

Annabelle Addams
DANVILLE - Annabelle Boyle Addams, 80, of Danville died at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday (July 25, 2001), at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island.
The Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Ted Pracz officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
She was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Danville, the daughter of James W. and Della Stephens Boyle. She married John C. "Jack" Addams in 1943. He died in 1997.
Surviving are one son, James Addams of Cody, Wyo.; two daughters, Nancy Arnold of Coal Valley and Susan Vance of Charleston; and five grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters.
Mrs. Addams was employed as a purchasing agent with Prairie States Oil and as a bookkeeper for Red Top Cab Co.
Alice Bales
OAKLAND - Alice L. Bales, 81, of Pleasant Meadows Christian Village, Chrisman, formerly of Oakland, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday (July 29, 2001), at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Taber Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Shane officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 8, 1919, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Thomas H. and Agnes Blandon Moore. She married Harry l. Bales Sept. 28, 1940, in Detroit, Mich. He died in 1976.
She is survived by three sons, Robert of Mattoon, Mike of Charleston and Chuck of Greenup; one daughter, Sharon Houchin of Oakland; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
She was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church where she served as parish visitor for 12 years. She also belonged to the Oakland VFW 3637 Ladies Auxiliary and the Oakland Senior Citizens.
She assisted Taber Funeral Home providing answering service for 10 years, was a cook at the Oakland cafe for 10 years and was a certified nurse assistant at Prairie View Nursing Home, Charleston, retiring in 1984.

CHARLESTON - Winifred "Winnie" Pauline Cowart, 80, of Charleston died at 9 p.m. Saturday (July 28, 2001) at Sara Bush Lincoln Health Center.

I. Carl Ekiss
DECATUR - I. Carl Ekiss, 106, of Decatur died at 2:40 p.m. Friday (July 27, 2001), at McKinnly Court Nursing Home.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with the Rev. William Pruitt officiating. Burial will be in Marrowbone Township Cemetery in Bethany. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 8, 1894, in Bethany, the son of William D. and Clara L. Ekiss. He married Maye Austin in 1929. She died in 1982.
Surviving is one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one daughter.
Mr. Ekiss was a retired postal clerk and member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Sullivan American Legion Post 68, and National Association of Retired Federal employees. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW I.

Heather Harmon
LOUISVILLE - Heather E. Harmon, 23, of Louisville died at 4 p.m. Thursday (July 26, 2001) at her residence.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Neal Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial will be in Shouse Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 31, 1977, in Effingham, the daughter of Michael and Susan L. Brown Harmon.
Surviving are two daughters, McKenzie and Taylor Paton, both of Louisville; one brother, Eric Harmon of Louisville; one sister, Holly Anderson of Casey; and her grandmother, Eilene Harmon of Louisville.
Ms. Harmon was employed at Steven's Cabinet.

David Paton
CASEY - David L. Paton Jr., 28, of Casey, formerly of Greenup, died at 4:28 p.m. Thursday (July 26, 2001, in Bible Grove Township near Louisville.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bishop Funeral Home in Greenup with the Rev. Brooke Davis officiating. Burial will be in Greenup Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 18, 1972, in Effingham, the son of David L. and Eula "Jo" Hays Paton Sr.
Surviving are two daughters, Taylor and McKenzie Paton, both at home, and one sister, Barbara Redman of Casey.
Mr. Paton was machine operator at Steven's Industries in Teutopolis.

Clellie Wilson
TUSCOLA - Clellie A. "Kelly" Wilson, 75, of Tuscola, formerly of Girard, died at 7:25 p.m. Friday (July 27, 2001) at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard with the Rev. Robert Goolsby officiating. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be 5-6:30 p.m. Monday at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard.
He was born June 1, 1926, in Gary, Ind., the son of Edker and Bertha Jewel Carwile Wilson. He married Ethel E. Schott in 1950. She died in 1998.
Surviving are one son, Kelly R. Wilson of Bloomington; three daughters, Karen Stansberry and Linda Smith, both of Girard and Laurie Towle of Arcola; one brother, Derald Wilson of Girard; two sisters, Hazel Wilson of Altamont and Edna Sargent of Joplin, Mo.; and eight grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers.
Mr. Wilson was a retired maintenance foreman for the Ziegler Coal Co., and was a member of the Elks Club and Moose Lodge, both of Tuscola. He was U.S. Army veteran of WW II.
