Michael Bezruki, age 81, of Charleston, passed away at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2001 at his home surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Father Jeff Grant celebrating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass at the Church. The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Michael was born September 7, 1919, in Stanislau, Poland, the son of Josef and Maria Bezruki. He married Vera Piatenko on November 10, 1945, in Munich, Germany.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Bezruki of Charleston; one daughter, Lydia Marien and husband Richard of Kansas City, Missouri; three sons, Eugene Bezruki of Charleston, Don Bezruki and wife Peggy of Madison, Wisconsin and Chris Bezruki and wife Ann of Champaign; seven grandchildren, Jenny Marien of Boston, Massachusetts, Jessica Marien of Washington, D.C., Amanda Malhouf and husband James of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Anna Bezruki of Madison, Wisconsin, Steffanie Bezruki, Michael Bezruki and Christopher Svendsen, all of Champaign; one great-grandson, James Caven Malhouf and one great-granddaughter, Isabella Malhouf, both of Marshfield, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters.
Mr. Bezruki came to the United States in 1949 with his young family. Michael was employed with Moore Business Forms in Charleston, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 40, 4th Degree and the Charleston Elks. He especially enjoyed and loved his grandchildren.

CHARLES BOYER
Charles David "Chuck" Boyer, age 49, of Mattoon, passed away at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2001 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Jim Dona officiating. Burial will follow in the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Chuck was born August 31, 1951, in Charleston, a son of Charles F. and M. Ruth Throneburg Boyer. He married Georgia S. Turner on October 8, 1971.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Boyer of Mattoon; one son, Michael W. Boyer of Mattoon; one daughter, Tine M. Butler and husband Chris of Mattoon; his mother, Ruth Boyer of Mattoon; six brothers, Bill E. Boyer and wife Doris of Oakland, Jack R. Boyer and wife Verna of Kimberling, Mo., Bob J. Boyer and wife Ruth Ann of Paris, Jerry W. Boyer and wife Marge of Windsor, Ted F. Boyer and wife Lilly of Mattoon and Terry D. Boyer and wife Carol of Mattoon; one brother-in-law, Jim Turner and wife Brenda of Mattoon; four grandchildren, Kristen L. R. Boyer, Aaron T. Butler, Christopher D. Butler and Dallas M. Boyer, all of Mattoon.
He was preceded in death by his father and one infant brother, Jimmy Boyer.
Mr. Boyer was employed with Burger King and the former Calderwood (Vesuvius) in Charleston. He was a member of the Christian Church in Kansas and the Eagles Club in Mattoon.

George Carrow
ROBINSON - George Edward Carrow, 91, of Robinson died at 4:55 a.m. Saturday (July 14, 2001) at Crawford Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Robinson with the Rev. James E. Barnett officiating. Cremation will follow with interment at a later date. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He was born March 1, 1910, in Hazel Hurst, Pa., the son of Charles Francis and Clara Malfair Carrow. He married Eugenia "Jean" Suain in 1940. She survives.
Also surviving are one son Thomas G. Carrow of Elizabeth, Colo.; one daughter, Sallie Cougill of Charleston; three sisters, Louise Flickinger of Hazel Hurst, Pa., Evelyn Carrow of Kane, Pa., and Bernadette Carrow of Florida; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Carrow was a retired pumper and roustabout for Getty Oil Co. and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Robinson.
Faith Crandall
CASEY - Faith Finney Crandall, 88, of Hillsboro, formerly of Casey, died at 3:03 a.m. Sunday (July 15, 2001) at Hillsboro Health Center.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Greenwell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cumberland Cemetery in Casey. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 22, 1912, in Bellair, the daughter of Oral and Elsie May Cramer Finney. She married Fred Crandell in 1934. He died in 1999.
Surviving are three granddaughters, Lisa Huddlestun of Greenup, Lori Scimio of O'Fallon and Leslie Boston of Hillsboro; one daughter-in-law, Sue Houpt of Casey; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son.
Mrs. Crandall was a retired teacher and member of the Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Clark County Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, in memory of her son Larry Crandall.
Sarah Hanners
HAZEL DELL - Sarah A. Hanners, 77, of Hazel Dell, died at 1:25 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 18, 2001) at Heartland Manor Nursing Center.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Markwell Funeral Home in Casey with the Rev. Tom Marsh officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until time of service on Monday at the funeral Home.
She was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Casey, the daughter of Simon Roy and Zella Mae Watters Comer. She married Ralph Hanners in 1942. He died in 1997.
Surviving are one son, Duane Hanners of Hazel Dell; three daughters, Sharon Beck of Mattoon, Shirley Paul of Montrose and Sandra Washburn of Casey; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers.
Mrs. Hanners was a homemaker and previously worked for Ettlebrick shoe factory.

Thelma Leonard
BEECH GROVE, Ind. - Thelma K. Leonard, 91, of Beech Grove, Ind., died Saturday (Aug. 18, 2001.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Little & Sons Funeral Home in Beech Grove, Ind. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Thelma Kearney married George Leonard; he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two daughters.
Survivors include two sons, George Robert Leonard and Thomas Wayne Leonard; one daughter, Alta Jane Stogsdill; one sister, Ella Beavers of Mattoon; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Jonathan Ruffner
YALE - Jonathan Hugh Ruffner, 28, of Yale died at 9:36 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 16, 2001) at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson.
The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Barkley Funeral Home in Greenup with Brother Jim Rue officiating. Burial will be in the Hazel Dell Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 22, 1972, in Charleston, the son of Jack and Norma Leistner Ruffner.
Survivors include his parents of Yale; a sister, Michelle Ruffner of Yale; and grandfather Robert W. Green of Greenup.
Linda Underwood
SULLIVAN - Linda J. Stinson Underwood, 58, of Sullivan, formerly of Dalton City, died at 10 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 18, 2001) at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Dolan officiating. Burial will be in Keller Cemetery in Lovington. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 6, 1942, in Lake City, the daughter of Floyd S. and Lure T. Phillips Stinson.
Surviving are her mother, Lura of Sullivan; one son, Mike Underwood of Atwood; one daughter, April Suarez of Findlay; three brothers, Dave Stinson of Sullivan, Scott Stinson of Moweaqua and Denny Stinson of Bethany; two sisters, Marsha Silotto of Findlay and Sue Valousky of Tuscola; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and one sister.
Ms. Underwood was a member of the New Life Tabernacle Church in Sullivan.

Gene Compton
OAKLAND - Carleton E. "Gene" Compton, 69, of Oakland died at 3 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 16, 2001) at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Taber Funeral Home in Oakland with Tony Crouch officiating. Burial will be in Young America Cemetery, in Hume, with military rites by the Oakland VFW Post. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1931, in Hartville, Mo., the son of Carleton L. and Barbara Johnson Compton. He married Dixie Whitten in 1963; she died March 9, 2001.
Survivors include his mother of Newman; two sons, Carleton Thomas Compton of Hutsonville and Kenneth Compton of Indianapolis, Ind.; one daughter, Susan M. Compton of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Leo Compton of Mansfield, Mo., and one sister, Alice Pugh of Montezuma, Ind.; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Compton was a car inspector for B & O Railroad where he had worked for 28 years. He was a member of the Oakland Christian Church, the Evergreen Masonic Lodge of Greenwood, Ind., and the Indiana Scottish Rite. He was also an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Oakland VFW Post 3637.

Beverly Gatchell
SOLDOTNA, Alaska - Beverly A. Gatchell, 61, of Soldotna, Alaska, formerly of Olney and Mattoon, died at 1:46 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 15, 2001) at Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at the Summers-Kistler Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was born, May 25, 1940, in Mattoon, the daughter of Charles and Mary Jane Cline Harriss. She married Dennis Gatchell in 1980; he survives.
Other survivors include, a son, Geoffrey Clark of Soldotna, Alaska; daughters Dawna Ross of Logansport, Ind., and Deanna Woods of Rapid City Mich.; and five grandchildren.
