William H. Dowling

CHARLESTON - William H. Dowling, 86, of Charleston, died at 12 a.m. Thursday (August 16, 2001) at Prairie View Health Care, in Charleston.

Private services will be conducted. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Charleston. The Caudill-King Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born Oct. 27, 1914, in Coles County, IL, a son of William Harvey and Harriett Nott Dowling. He married Martha Thatcher in 1936; she preceded him in death in 1991.

Survivors include two sisters, Robert (Jane) Woodyard of Charleston and Harriett Peters of Ft. Worth, Texas; special niece, Denise Coffey of Charleston; and special nephew, Mark Cobble of Charleston.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Emily.

Mr. Dowling retired as an accountant for Darin and Armstrong Const. Co. after 25 years. He was a member of the Charleston Elks Lodge #623 and Charleston Moose Lodge #1388.

LOLITA LAREAU

DONOVAN, IL - Lolita Lareau, 74, of Donovan, IL, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Magnolia Wood Health Care.

She was born July 16, 1927, in Donovan, a daughter of Horace Nourie Sr. and Nina Ames. Lolita married Ethelbert Lareau on Feb. 4, 1950, at St. Mary's Church in Beaverville, IL. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1998. Lolita was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, David and Nancy Lareau of Clinton, IL, Rodney and Denise Lareau of Donovan, IL, Daryl and Saundra Lareau of Ladson, S.C., Mitchel and Debra Lareau of Holton, KS, Michael and Jean Lareau of Watseka, IL; daughters and sons-in-law, Karla and Bernie Markley of Watseka, IL, Janice and Reece Honnold of Kansas, IL, Mary Lareau of Watseka, IL and Sheila and Rick Lesage of Donovan, IL; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step grandchildren.

Mrs. Lareau was a homemaker and member of St. Mary's Church in Beaverville, IL. She was a member of a card club and enjoyed making angel food cakes and baking chocolate chip cookies.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 18, 2001) at St. Mary's Church, in Beaverville, IL, with Father Robert Coleman officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today with an 8 p.m. Prayer service at the Baier Funeral Home in Watseka, IL. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Beaverville. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Restoration Fund in Beaverville and to Iroquois Memorial Hospice.

ELSIE SPENCER

Elsie Blanche Spencer, age 94, of Mattoon, passed away at 12:50 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Graveside funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 18 at the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time Saturday morning at the Schilling Funeral Home.

Elsie was born December 23, 1906, in Johnstown, a daughter of Wall and Alice Greenwood Zike. She married Daniel Phillips in 1923 in Humboldt. He preceded her in death in 1935. She married Wesley Taylor in 1939. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1974. She then married Charles Spencer on October 3, 1980. He also preceded her in death on September 29, 1985. She was also preceded in death by one infant daughter and daughter, Katherine Fairchild; one son, Robert Wayne Taylor; one grandchild, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include son, Donald E. Phillips and wife Elaine of Toledo, daughter, Betty Kilman of Murrieta, California, son, Harley L. Taylor and wife Judy Lee of Wildomar, California; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Spencer retired from the Brown Shoe Company. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Eagles.

Memorial gifts my be given to National Diabetes Association.

Helen Correll

EFFINGHAM - Helen Correll, 75, of Effingham, formerly of Mattoon, died at 8:33 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2001) at Lynncrest Manor, Effingham.

A private family service will be held at a later date. The Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born Oct. 20, 1925, in Witt, the daughter of John and Florence Hoehn Schwartz.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis Correll of LaValle, Wis., Bernard Correll of Geneseo and Leslie Correll of Sigel; three brothers, Leo Schwartz of Montillo, Wis., Walter Schwartz of Irving and Louis Schwartz of Witt; two sisters, Elizabeth Gilmore of Markenson, Wis., and Lorraine Jackson of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Correll retired from the Mattoon garment factory. She was a member of the Mattoon Immaculate Conception Church.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Lincoln Land or Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care of Mattoon.

Letha Gibbons

JANESVILLE - Letha L. Gibbons, 85, of Janesville, died at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2001) at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Barkley Funeral Home in Toledo with the Rev. Marvin Oakley officiating. Burial will be in the Janesville Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born Nov. 29, 1915, in Neoga, the daughter of Alfred and Ida Mae (Cooper) Chronic.

Survivors include one son, William Walker of Winfield; one sister, Lela Needham of Chesterfield, Mo.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, seven brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Gibbons was a homemaker and a member of the Janesville Wesleyan Church.

Clara Kibler

MATTOON - Clara Mae Kibler, 87, of Mattoon, died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Steve Shepherd officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

She was born Nov. 14, 1913, in Charleston, the daughter of George Dodley and Jane Golladay Easter.

Survivors include one daughter, Rita J. Turner of Mattoon; two brothers, Holly O. Easter of Charleston and Ralph Easter of Mattoon; one sister, AnnaBelle Thompson of Charleston; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Kibler was preceded in death by three brothers.

EMMA PYGOTT

Emma Luellan Pygott, age 86, of Mattoon, passed away at 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at the Mattoon Health Care Center.

Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the Schilling Funeral Home with Captain Fred Wakefield officiating assisted by Captain Joyce Wakefield. Burial will be in the Zion Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. this (Thursday) evening.

Emma was born August 22, 1914, in Coles County, the daughter of Charles and Rosie Brown Eaton. She married Dale Vernon Pygott in July 1937 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1974. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Rose Marie Pygott and Irma Luella Pygott and one brother, Roy Eaton.

Survivors include five sons, Carl Pygott and wife Betty, Lee Pygott and wife Kathy, Lloyd Pygott, Don Pygott and wife Connie, and Dean Pygott, all of Mattoon; three daughters, Frances Hale and husband Frank of Mattoon, Lois Potter and husband Larry and Pansy Paul and husband James, all of Casey; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Pygott was a homemaker. She was a member of the Salvation Army. Emma loved to garden and play bingo. She also loved to visit with her friends and the nurses at the Mattoon Health Care Center. Her greatest love was to talk about her children.

Meribeth Smith

PLEASANT HILL - Meribeth Smith, 60, of Pleasant Hill, died at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2001) at her home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill with Elder Roger Howell officiating. Burial will be in Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born April 15, 1941, in Martinsburg, the daughter of John Leon and Carol (Guthrie) Thomas. She married Terry Smith in 1960; he survives.

Other survivors include her mother of Pleasant Hill; two sons, Gregory T. Smith of Mattoon and James T. Smith of Pittsfield; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, one brother and one sister.

Mrs. Smith was the organist at the Ward-Lummis Funeral Home for many years. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Pleasant Hill.

Memorials may be made to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints, Pleasant Hill, or Blessing Hospice.

Hazel Trimble

JEWETT - Hazel Trimble, 86, of rural Jewett died at 11:32 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2001) at Lakeland Healthcare Center, Effingham.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bishop Funeral Home, Greenup. Burial will be in Aten Cemetery, Hidalgo. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

She was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Jasper County, the daughter of Robert and Laura Spesard Reisner. She married Parker Trimble in 1934. He survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Max Trimble of Frederick, Md., Dale Trimble of LaPlace, La., and Ted Trimble of San Jose, Calif.; a brother, Gene Reisner of Jewett; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Trimble was a homemaker.

DELORES WANNENMACHER

Delores Marie Wannenmacher, age 67, of Mattoon, passed away at 4:45 p.m. an Sunday, August 12, 2001, at her residence.

Memorial services celebrating her life will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 18 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3322 Moultrie, with Santiago Beltran officiating. The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Delores was born August 17, 1933, in Rock Island, a daughter of George and Madeline Hauman Wise. She married Dale Wannenmacher on October 9, 1954.

Survivors include her husband, Dale Wannenmacher of Mattoon; three sons, Brian D. Wannenmacher and wife Tina of Mattoon, Mark A. Wannenmacher of Susanville, California, Joel A. Wannenmacher and wife Carol of Mattoon, Leah Malcome and husband Larry of Neoga, Lisa Poole and husband David of Terrell, Texas, and Beth Wannenmacher of Mattoon; one brother, Robert Wise and wife Coleen of Manassas, Virginia; three sisters, Beverly Christner of Davenport, Iowa, Shirly Moore of Dallas, Texas and Phyliss Sutton of Fort Worth, Texas; ten grandchildren, Ehren Wannenmacher, William Wannenmacher, Nathan Wannenmacher, Austin Malcome, Michelle Malcome, Heather Malcome, Logan Malcome, Megan Malcome, Michael May and Nicholas May.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Wannenmacher was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mattoon congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Memorial gifts may be made to the donor's choice.
