TOWER HILL - Sylvia Warner, 95, of Tower Hill, died at 2:07 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2001) at Shelby Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Wayne Arganbright officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born June 9, 1906, in rural Tower Hill, the daughter of John and Leona Belle McKee McGuar. She married Paul D. Warner in 1933; he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Glen R. Warner of Tower Hill; one grandchild; and one step-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Warner was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Joan Baugher
SULLIVAN - Joan Baugher, 70, of Sullivan, died at 11:33 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 12, 2001) at St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany. No visitation is planned. McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan is in charge of arrangements.
She was born March 26, 1931, in Bethany, the daughter of Howard Marion and Dorothy Evelyn Mathias Moore. She married Charles O. Baugher in 1947; he survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Linda Garrett of Cleburne, Texas, and Charlotte Maxedon of Sullivan; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Baugher was a retired bus driver for the Sullivan school district. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Sullivan.

Clara Kibler
MATTOON - Clara Mae Kibler, 87, of Mattoon, died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Steve Shepherd officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was born Nov. 14, 1913, in Charleston, the daughter of George Dodley and Jane Golladay Easter.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita J. Turner of Mattoon; two brothers, Holly O. Easter of Charleston and Ralph Easter of Mattoon; one sister, AnnaBelle Thompson of Charleston; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Kibler was preceded in death by three brothers.
JOHN ALBERT LAWYER
FINDLAY - John A. Lawyer, 79, of Findlay, passed on to the Lord at 9:15 p.m. Monday, August 13, 2001, at his home.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2001 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home in Charleston. Funeral services and interment will be private.
John was born April 29, 1922, in Charleston, to Oscar Jackson and Eva Mae Vanesle Lawyer. Survivors include three sons: Ronnie Lawyer and wife Jo of Columbus, MS, John Lawyer and wife Cherie of Gurnee, IL, and Perry Lawyer and wife Jeanie of Windsor, IL; and one daughter: Brenda Burwell and husband Harold of Mattoon, IL. Nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, an infant son, and an infant grandchild.
John worked as a farm helper, served in the CCC Camp, and was a U.S. Navy "CBee" during World War II. He had also worked at Brown Shoe in Charleston, was a truck driver, carpenter, and barbered for over thirty-five years in Mattoon.
John was a member of First Christian Church in Mattoon, the V.F.W., and the American Legion.

LOWELL RITTER
Lowell P. Ritter, age 82, of Sullivan, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Broadway Christian Church with the Reverend Jim Dona officiating. Burial will be in the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time Thursday morning at the church.
Lowell was born September 29, 1918, in Shelbyville, a son of William "Bill and Maude Hudson Ritter. He married Opal Aleshire on December 18, 1938 in Mattoon.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Ritter of Sullivan; two granddaughters, Patty Coburn and husband Anthony of Sullivan, Chris Schumacher of Sullivan and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda K. Ritter; two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Ritter was a retired grain farmer.
Memorial gifts may be given to the Broadway Christian Church or to St. John's Hospice.
Gordon Waxler
OLNEY - Gordon N. Waxler, 73, of Olney, died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2001) at his residence.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Olney with the Rev. Louis Youngs officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg. The Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney is in charge of arrangements.
He was born April 30, 1928, in Olney, the son of George Allen and Hazel Nicholas Waxler. He married George Ann Doan in 1948; she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Timothy H. Waxler of Claremont, Daniel A. Waxler of Albion and Jonathan L. Waxler of Albion; one daughter, Debra A. DeRousse of Charleston; two brothers Glenn Waxler of Haslett, Mich., and Robert Waxler of Olney; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Mr. Waxler was a retired farmer and bus driver for United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Olney, a charter member of the Parkersburg Ruritan Club and served on the county board from 1968 to 1976.

Richard Hines
MATTOON - Richard Winford Hines, 80, of Mattoon, formerly of Humboldt, died at 7:41 a.m. Monday (Aug. 13, 2001), at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Edwards Funeral Home, Arcola, with the Rev. Joe Diener officiating. Burial will be in the Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until service time at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 18, 1920, in Muhlenberg County, Ky., the son of James Richard and Addie Vickrey Hines.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Hines had owned a gas station, pool hall and H & H Restaurant, all in Humboldt, and made and sold candy. He also worked for the fertilizer business in Humboldt for 29 years.
Florence Phillips
ARTHUR - Florence Beatrice Phillips, 93, of Arthur died at 8:36 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 12, 2001) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Vine Street Christian Church, Arthur, with the Rev. Michael Johnson and Pastor Wray Offermann officiating. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Shrader Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Aug. 7, 1908, in Royal, the daughter of Albert C. and Julia Anna Graves Day. She married Horace L. Phillips in 1930; he died in 1957.
Survivors include twin daughters, Janice A. Daugherty of Arthur and Charlotte Dipper of Decatur; two sisters, Irene Pennell of Arthur and Golda Miller of Seymour, Ind.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Phillips worked at the drug store in Arthur. She was a member and founder of the Arthur Garden Club and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ladies American Legion Auxiliary, Decatur Audubon Society, G.K.E. of Decatur and the Vine Street Christian Church.

JOHN WHEELER
John Eugene Wheeler, age 87, of Mattoon, passed away at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2001, at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. E. E. Elliott officiating. Burial with full military rites by the V.F.W. Post 4325 will be in the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to service time Thursday morning.
John was born February 14, 1914, in Phelps County, Missouri, a son of Frank E. and Lucy Tipton Wheeler. He married M. Gaynell Hubbart on October 5, 1946. She preceded him in death on June 6, 1999. He was also preceded in death by one son, John E. Wheeler Jr., one grandson, Joseph Alan Wheeler, three brothers and seven sisters.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Avis Ann Wheeler of Mattoon, two grandchildren, John Edward Wheeler of Mattoon, Bonnie Renee Wheeler of O'Fallon, Missouri, two great-granddaughters, Karen A. Brewton and Candy Lynn Brewton, both of O'Fallon, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wheeler retired from the State of Illinois Highway Department. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. John was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster, Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, European Theater of Operations and North African Theater of Operation Medal, Bronze Star with four extra bronze stars, Three unit citations and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mattoon, V.F.W. Post 4325, Mattoon Moose Lodge, Mattoon American Legion, Mattoon Coin Club, 8th Air Force Historical Society, 15th Air Force Association, 301 Bomb Group Association, 447 Bomb Group Association and was Past Commander of the Humboldt American Legion.
Memorial gifts may be given to the First Baptist Church of Mattoon.
James White
EFFINGHAM - James "Jim" White, of Effingham, Illinois, passed away on August, 8, 2001.
His parents, James White and Helen Schafer White, preceded him in death.
Jim was an alumnus of the University of Michigan; served in the United States Army; worked for the Internal Revenue Service; and was a commodities investor.
He is survived by aunts and uncles: Kathryn Schafer Kilman of Mattoon, Illinois; Lenore and Otto Reuther of Effingham, Illinois; Grace White of Terre Haute, Indiana; and seven cousins.
Burial will be August 18, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in Oakridge Cemetery, Effingham, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory to the American Heart Association.
