Chester Cloyd Sturgeon, fondly known as "Cobb," age
84, of Mattoon, went to the great golf course in the sky
at 8:05 a.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2001, at his
residence.
Graveside memorial services will begin at 2:30 p.m.
Thursday afternoon at the Rest Haven Memorial
Gardens with the Reverend Dr. E. E. Elliott officiating.
The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of the
arrangements.
Cobb was born November 14, 1916, in Assumption, a
son of William Spencer Sturgeon and Floy (Roy)
Sturgeon. He married Kathryn A. Taylor on June 15,
1941.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn A. Sturgeon of
Mattoon; one son, Steve Sturgeon and wife Sally of
Yaak, Montana; two stepdaughters, Shirley Rideout and
husband James Ervin of Kansas and Sharon Bozarth
and husband Carl of Mt. Zion; one brother, Clifford
Sturgeon and wife Catherine of Belleville; a niece, June
Sturgeon of Medford, Mass.; thirteen grandchildren,
sixteen great-grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two
sisters.
Cobb was sole proprietor of Cobb's Grill and retired as
custodian for the former Central National Bank. He was
a lifetime member of the Rogala Public Links Golf
Course and was a U.S. Army veteran. He will be missed
by friends and family alike.

James Browning Sr.
PANA - James A. Browning Sr., 49, of Pana, died
Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at his residence.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the
McCracken-Dean Funeral Home in Pana with the Rev.
Kenneth Morell officiating. Burial will be in Linwood
Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the
service at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 3, 1952, in St. Elmo, the son of Orvill
Otto and Leah Faye Jackson Browning. He married
Mary Ann Anderson in 1979; she died in 1998.
Survivors include two sons, James Browning Jr. of
Pana and Brian Anderson of Pana; two daughters, Tina
Marie Arkebauer of Mattoon and Michelle Neal of Pana;
his mother of Pana; one sister, Dorothy Oliver of Pana;
and four grandchildren.
Mr. Browning was a farm hand and a member of the
Pana ESDA.
Glen Funk
CASEY - Glen Norris Funk, 87, of Casey, died at 12:20
p.m. Sunday (Sept. 9, 2001) at Prairie View Care Center
in Charleston.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Markwell
and Son Funeral Home in Casey with the Rev. Dan
Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Cemetery
south of Casey. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service
time at the funeral home.
He was born May 20, 1914, in Casey, the son of Jesse
Monroe Funk and Amy Pearl List Funk.
Survivors include one son, Harold Funk of Casey; three
daughters, Carole Blanchard of Fort Pierce, Fla.,
Sharon England of Westfield, Ind., and Linda McGill of
Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Mr. Funk was retired from the Illinois Department of
Transportation in Paris and an Army veteran. He was a
member of the Consistory Scottish Rites Bodies of
Danville and Charleston Elk Lodge 623 and was a
50-year member of Casey Masonic Lodge 442.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's
Hospital.
Charleen Yelton
LAKELAND, Fla. - Charleen Roberts Yelton, 89, of
Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Arcola, died at 2:10 p.m.
Thursday (Aug. 30, 2001) at the Florida Presbyterian
Home in Lakeland, Fla.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the
Arcola United Methodist Church in Arcola with the
Rev. Margaret Misal officiating. Burial will be in Dodge
Grove Cemetery in Mattoon at a later date. The Shrader
Funeral Home in Arcola is in charge of the
arrangements.
She was born Feb. 9, 1912, in Mattoon, the daughter of
James H. and Elsie May Metz Allen. She married Virgil
C. Roberts in 1932; he died in 1985. She married Hubert
Yelton in 1989; he died in 2000.
Survivors include one stepson, John Yelton of
Delavon, Wis., and two stepdaughters, Nancee Jones of
Hampshire and Helen DeMay of Hemingway, S.C.
Mrs. Yelton was a homemaker and member of the
Arcola United Methodist Church since 1934.

"Buck" Rue
CASEY-"Buck" Alonzo R. Rue, 84, of Casey, died at
10:30 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 8, 2001) at Burnsides
Nursing Center in Marshall.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the
Markwell & Son Funeral Home in Casey with the Rev.
Kenny Inman officiating. Burial will be in Casey
Cumberland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m.
today at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 20, 1916 in Kansas, a son of Henry
Scott and Pearl Willison Rue. He married Alice Marie
Ripple on June 28, 1937 in Casey. She preceded him in
death on Feb. 3, 2001.
Surviving are eight sons, Robert Rue and wife Marsha
of Morton, Ron Rue and wife Sharon of Casey, Ben
Rue and wife Carol of Lawrenceville, John Rue and
wife Nancy of Peotone, Richard Rue and wife Kathy of
Houston, Texas, Tony Rue and wife Leah of Katy,
Texas, Jack Rue and wife Janeen of Martinsville, and
Rodney Rue of Pekin; four daughters, Mary Sue
Watson and husband Dick of Neoga, Bonnie Baird and
husband Don of Martinsville, Andrea Rue at home,
Julie Briggs and husband Chuck of Danville and
Melanie Evans and husband David of Friendswood,
Texas; one sister, Mabel Pine of Paris; 39 grandchildren,
32 great-grandchildren, and three
great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, one
sister; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Rodney (Debra Egan)
Rue; and one great-granddaughter, Kayrina Hinds.
Mr. Rue retired as a self-employed plasterer,
maintenance supervisor and bus driver for Casey
schools and was a member of Union Local #143.

Warren P. Baker
Warren P. Baker, 71, of Buckner MO, passed away
Sunday September 9, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday September
11, 2001 at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, Grain
Valley, MO. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00
p.m. prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Jackson
County Veterans Field of Honor in Grain Valley, MO.
Mr. Baker was born March 16, 1930 in Neoga, IL. He
served his country honorably during the Korean War in
the U.S. Army, he was a member of the American
Legion Post 499, and Teamsters Local 41. Mr. Baker
retired in 1992 from Yellow Freight after 22 years. He
loved animals and raised and showed Arabian Horses.
He was preceded in death by his parents, PerI and Opal
Baker, one daughter Shirley Baker, a brother Hedrik
Baker and a sister Dorothy Briggerman. Survivors
include his wife of 13 yrs. Joan Baker, 4 daughters
Theresa Hughes. Neoga IL, Pam Baker Mattoon, IL,
Judi Baker, Neoga, IL, and Patti Baker, Boca Baton, FL,
and 1 son Warren L. Baker of Deerfield Beach, Fla. Six
grandchildren Chad, Jason, Mark, Lee, Gabrielle and
Warren Luke, 4 great-grandchildren Tysha, Thad,
Cholly and Jordan, one sister Betty Woods of
Champagne, IL. two brothers Charles Baker of Neoga,
IL. and Frank Baker of Decatur, IL, also survive him,
as well as step children Jeff Reeves, Lee's Summit, MO,
Jamie Burnett, Topeka, KS, Jolene Sumpter, Sallisaw
OK, Jason Hays, Enid, OK, and 9 step grandchildren

JUANITA ARTHUR
Juanita Lorean Arthur, age 91, of Mattoon, passed away
at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, September 9, 2001, at the Douglas
Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 11:00
a.m. Wednesday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the
Reverend Robert C. Clark officiating. Burial will follow
in the Green Hill Cemetery in Sullivan. Visitation will
be held from 10:30 a.m. until time of service
Wednesday morning at the funeral home.
Juanita was born February 25, 1910, in Hardinsburg,
Kentucky, a daughter of Joseph and Georgie Ann
Stillwell Collard. She married David Frank Arthur. He
preceded her in death in 1979. She was also preceded in
death by one son, two grandchildren, five brothers and
one sister.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin Yates and wife
Betty of Huntsville, Alabama, Jerry Ginther and wife
Connie of Gatesville, Texas; three daughters, Mary Curl
of Rockford, Bonnie Williams of Mattoon and Connie
White and husband Bill of Charleston; eighteen
grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren and
fourteen great-great-grandchildren.
Juanita was a C.N.A. for the Masonic Home for several
years.
Sarah Ames
MATTOON - Sarah Ellen Ames, 93, of Mattoon, died at
3:10 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 8, 2001), at Douglas Care and
Rehabilitation Center.
The graveside funeral will be held at1 p.m. Monday at
the Dodge Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Ronald
Dickinson officiating. There will be no visitation.
Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home is in charge of the
arrangements.
She was born Feb. 4, 1908, in Neoga, the daughter of
Flores L. and Lula May Kimrey Lacy. She married
Delbert M. Ames in 1926. He died in 1967.
Surviving are one brother, Charles W. Lacy of
Clarksville, Ind. and two sisters, Eva Mae Henne of
Mattoon and Mary E. Wise of Fairview Heights.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and
one sister.
Mrs. Ames retired from Mattoon Memorial Hospital and
was a member of the First United Methodist Church,
Order of the Eastern Star and Coles County Home
Extension.
