TOLEDO - Nellie L. Beals, 83, of Neoga, died at 9:15 a.m. Monday (Sept.
17, 2001) at Springfield Memorial Medical Center.
The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Barkley Funeral Home,
Toledo, with the Rev. Tim Pearce officiating. Burial will be in Janesville
Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at
the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 27, 1917, in Lyford, Ind., the daughter of Hugh and
Viola Lippincott Blackburn. She married Dale L. Helm in 1934; he
preceded her in death. She married John S. Beals in 1963; he also preceded
her in death.
Survivors include one son, James L. Helm of Mattoon; two daughters,
Shirley Frazier of Stewardson and Dorothy Ames of Lerna; one sister,
Mary Drum of Mattoon; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and
three great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, four brothers, one sister, two
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Beals was a homemaker.
Mary E. Chapman
Mary E. Chapman, 84, of Arcola, IL passed away at 5:15 a.m. Sunday,
September 16, 2001 at Arcola Health Care Center in Arcola, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2001
at the First Christian Church in Arcola, IL. Dick Miller will officiate. Burial
will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, IL. Visitation will
be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on today, September 18, 2001 at the Edwards
Funeral Home, 221 E. Main St., Arcola, IL.
Mary was born January 18, 1917 in Tolono, IL. She was a daughter of
Roland B. and Addie (Bickel) Little. She married Harlan Earl Chapman on
April 26, 1936 in Tolono, IL. He passed away on March 1, 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Ted Chapman and his wife Patty of
Taylorville, IL and Stanley Chapman and his wife Sue of San Francisco,
CA; two daughters, Chlora Little and her husband Byron of Arcola, IL and
Dixie Maninfior of Neoga, IL; nine grandchildren, Clyde Stoedter of
Taylorville, IL, Jacob and Lincoln Chapman of San Francisco, CA, Darrell
Little of Staunton, VA, Michele Lindenmeyer and her husband Mitch of
Arcola, IL, Angie Hobgood and her husband Brent of Olivette, IL, Mark
Maninfior and his wife Susan, Jeff Maninfior and his wife Amy and Miles
Maninfior and his wife Kelly, all of Mattoon, IL.; thirteen
great-grandchildren, Madison Stoedter, Jordan, Jared and Kaurie
Lindenmeyer, Brandon, Justin and Morgan Rose Hobgood, Dustin, Derek
and Whitney Maninfior, Blake and Nick Maninifior, and Maddison
Maninfior; and three brothers, Lewis Little and his wife Jean of Leroy, IL,
Joe Little of Moweaqua, IL, and George Little and his wife Joyce of
Urbana, IL.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl, one brother,
Roland B. Little Jr., and one sister, Helen Sydebotham.
Mary was a member of the First Christian Church of Arcola, IL and the
Christian Women's Fellowship at the church. She was a member of the
Douglas County Home Extension. She enjoyed sewing, gardening as well as
canning.

INDIANAPOLIS - Virginia G. Dolan, 80, of Indianapolis, formerly of
Sullivan, died at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 18, 2001) in Community North
Hospital, Indianapolis.

Charles Malatesta
RIVER FOREST - The Rev. Charles Reginald Malatesta, 85, formerly of
Mattoon, died Monday (Sept. 17, 2001).
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Priory in
River Forest. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7
p.m. today; Office for the Dead at 7 p.m. at the Priory. The Smith
Corcoran Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born in Mattoon, the son of Lawrence and Margaret Peter
Malatesta.
Survivors include one sister, Mary M. Malatesta of Indianapolis.

Betty Whitlock
CISCO - Betty Jean Whitlock, 80, of Cisco, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday
(Sept. 15, 2001) at The Carle Arbours in Savoy.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home
in Monticello. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Bondville, the daughter of Fred and
Elizabeth Whiton Wendt. She married Stanley Meade Whitlock in 1948; he
died in 1985.
Survivors include one son, John Whitlock of Charleston; six grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Whitlock was a receptionist for Dr. William Mundt and a caretaker.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Monticello and the
Cisco United Methodist Church.

Donald Bartholomew
URBANA, ILLINOIS - Donald Joseph Bartholomew, 77, of Urbana,
formerly of Neoga and Arcola, died at 4:40 AM Monday, Sept. 17, 2001 at
his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001
at the Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev.
Doug Maris officiating. Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery with military
rites by the Arcola VFW. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 PM Wednesday
at the funeral home.
Mr. Bartholomew was born Feb. 13, 1924 in Arcola, a son of Arthur and
Mabrey Woodin Bartholomew. He married Virginia McGregor in Arcola on
Feb. 26, 1943. She preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 1998. He then
married Louise Banning Carwile in Champaign on June 9, 1999. She
survives.
Besides his wife Louise of Urbana, he is survived by 2 sons, Duan
Bartholomew and wife Mary Lynn of Decatur, Dean Bartholomew and
wife Phyllis of New Caney, Texas; 3 daughters, Kay Rosensteel and
husband Robert of Mandeville, Louisiana; Dianne Frank and husband
Robert of Charleston; Debora Peters and husband Mark of Neoga; 2
stepsons, Morris Carwile of Cape Girardo, Missouri, Russell Carwile of
Pesotum; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; and
3 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 son and 1
brother.
Mr. Bartholomew retired from U.S.I. Chemical Corporation, Tuscola, after
25 years as a lab technician and farmed. He was a member of the First
Christian Church of Champaign and the Arcola VFW.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater. He was
awarded the Bronze Star.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Champaign or
Provena Covenant Hospice.
GERALD S. BRIGHT
ARCOLA - Gerald S. Bright, 78, of Arcola, IL passed away at 10:55 p.m.
Monday, September 17, 2001 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Gerald was born July 29, 1923 in Humboldt, IL. He was a son of Francis
Marion and Helen Mildred (Sexton) Bright. He married Eleanor Ruth
Brown on March 12, 1946 in Arcola, IL.

husband Alan of Champaign, IL; 6 Grandchildren: Todd Bright and his wife
Heather of Arcola, IL, Taisha Chapman and her husband Dana of
Humboldt, IL, Dawn Owen and her husband Whit of Mattoon, IL, Joshua
Bright of Mattoon, IL, Lucas and Matthew Bright of Arcola, IL; 7

His parents, 2 brothers, Ronnie and Junior; 1 sister, Mrs. Edward (Rose
Mary) Biscupski preceded him in death.
Gerald farmed in the Arcola area his entire life.
Gerald was an Army veteran of WW II. He was a Private First Class and
received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the New Life Tabernacle
in Sullivan, IL and also a member of the Disabled American Veterans
Association.
Jerry loved gardening & watching things grow - also he was an avid bird
watcher. He took great pleasure in being with his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren who loved to hear his many "war stories," Jerry was a
one in a million husband - father and grandfather. His life was centered on
his love of the Lord and was a faithful child of God.

Donna Frances Wall
Donna Frances Wall, age 63, of 2215 Richmond Avenue, Manitowoc, died
Sunday, September 16, 2001, at her home surrounded by her family
following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2001,
at the Pfeffer Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic
Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev.
Gerald Foley with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born July 8, 1938, in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Steve and
Hattie Hinesh Skarvan. Donna grew up and was educated in Manitowoc.
She was a graduate of Holy Innocents Catholic Grade School and Lincoln
High School, Class of 1956. on September, 17, 1960, she married George
E. Wall. Donna was a homemaker until 1977. She then started her 24 year
career with the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA in the front office. Donna
was the tennis secretary for many years until her retirement in June 2001.
She received the Red Triangle Award in 1990 for her dedicated service to
the YMCA. Donna enjoyed camping and riding her bicycle. Donna was a
member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church where she enjoyed singing with
the Mixed Choir. She also enjoyed walking with her husband and spending
time with her grandchildren and her granddog, Nala.
Survivors include her husband, George Wall, Manitowoc; four sons and
daughters-in-law, Michael & Sallie Wall, Mattoon, Illinois, Mark & Lesley
Wall, Kennewick, WA, Steven & Katie Wall, Manitowoc, Brian & Karmen
Wall, Green Bay; five grandchildren, Samantha, Aaron, Joshua, Courtney
and Bryson; two sisters-in-law, Romana (Skarvan) Wesely and Lorraine
Marsh and a brother-in-law, Hubert Wall. Also surviving are nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her
parents, Steve & Hattie Hinesh Sharvan; a brother, Leo Skarvan; her
mother-in-law and father-in-law, Clara & Gust P. Wall Jr.; a
granddaughter, Breanna Marie Wall; a nephew, Joseph Lee Skarvan and
three brothers-in-law, Donald S. Wall, Jimmy Bonk and Larry Marsh.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928
S. 14th Street, Manitowoc, (920-684-4642) from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday
(TODAY) where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. led by Deacon
Paul Kieffer.

Marian Eron Caudill
MATTOON - Marian Eron Caudill, age 83, of LaGrange, Illinois, formerly
of Kansas and Mattoon, passed away at 7:00 p.m. Monday, September,
18, 2001 at LaGrange Community Hospital, LaGrange, Illinois.
Funeral services will be Noon Friday, September 21, 2001 at the
Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend Robert C. Clark officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from
4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Marian Eron Caudill was born August 18, 1918, at Westfield, Illinois, a
daughter of Jesse and Myrle Bennett McDaniel. She married Harold "Jack"
Caudill November 23, 1937 at Sullivan, Indiana; he preceded her in death
October 27, 1990. Her daughter, Cyndy Kaspar of Berwyn, Illinois,
Grandchildren, Crystal Jerz and her husband Jerry of Wilmington, Illinois
and Tamara Kaspar of Plainfield, Illinois survive her. Three
great-grandchildren, Jerry, Johnny and Misty Jerz also survive as well as a
sister, Evelyn McCloud of Nederland, Texas.
Mary Goble
CASEY - Mary Linder Goble, 103, of Casey, died at 2:02 p.m. Monday
(Sept. 17, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Markwell Funeral Home, Casey,
with minister Mark Kaley officiating. Burial will be in Casey Cumberland
Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 25, 1898, in Casey, the daughter of Bruce B. and Mae
Heffley Wood. She married Charles "Herb" Goble in 1918; he died in
1982.
Survivors include two sons, James Goble of Dallas and Robert Goble of
Casey; one daughter, Joanne Downey of Martinsville; one sister, Helen
Mosier of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, two brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Goble was a homemaker. She was a member of Casey United
Methodist Church, Heartland Manor Service League, Casey Airport
Booster Club, Casey Country Club and bridge clubs, and Daughters of the
American Revolution.

Albert Levitt
OLNEY - Albert Jason Levitt, 76, of Olney, died at 2:33 p.m. Sunday
(Sept. 16, 2001) at Burgin Manor Nursing Home.
The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Summers-Kistler Funeral
Home, Olney, with the Rev. Randy Mullinax officiating. Burial with
military rites will be in Haven Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 10, 1925, in Jasper County, the son of Albert and Naomi
Semple Levitt. He married Georgia Louise "Babe" Taylor in 1945; she died
in 1987.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Levitt of Alma, Dennis Levitt of
Norris City and Michael Levitt of Olney; three daughters, Janet Wells of
Noble, and Robin Rodriquez and Randee Krup, both of Mt. Carmel;
stepmother, Grace Nixon of Decatur; one brother, Maurice Levitt of
Neoga; two sisters, Carol Cole of Lexington and Marjorie Kibler of
Decatur; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son and one grandchild.
Mr. Levitt was self-employed in refrigeration repair. He was a Navy
veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW and American Legion.
