URBANA - Donald Joseph Bartholomew, 77, of Urbana, formerly of
Neoga and Arcola, died at 4:40 a.m. Monday (Sept. 17, 2001) at his
residence.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Shrader Funeral Home, Arcola,
with the Rev. Doug Maris officiating. Burial will be in Arcola Cemetery
with military rites by the Arcola VFW. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Arcola, the son of Arthur and Mabrey
Woodin Bartholomew. He married Virginia McGregor in 1943; she died in
1998. He married Louise Banning Carwile in 1999; she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Duan Bartholomew of Decatur and Dean
Bartholomew of New Caney, Texas; three daughters, Kay Rosensteel of
Mandeville, La., Dianne Frank of Charleston and Debora Peters of Neoga;
two stepsons, Morris Carwile of Cape Girardo, Mo., and Russell Carwile of
Pesotum; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four
step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son and one brother.
Mr. Bartholomew retired from USI Chemical Corporation, Tuscola, after
25 years as a lab technician and farmed. He was a member of the First
Christian Church of Champaign and the Arcola VFW. He was a veteran of
World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Elmer Wallace
HAVANA - Elmer Verne Wallace, 78, of Havana died Friday (Sept. 14,
2001) at his residence.
The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at the Laurel Cemetery in
Havana. Arrangements are by Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Local
arrangements by Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor.
He was born in Windsor, the son of Verne and Daisy Bowman Wallace.
Surviving are two sons, Stuart Wallace of Havana and Denny Wallace of
Osage Beach, Mo.; one sister, Evelyn Lovins of Windsor; two
grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Mr. Wallace was a previous manager of the FS in Havana and a World
War II Army veteran. He was a lifetime member of the Windsor Christian
Church.

Hazel Woodard
WESTFIELD - Hazel K. Woodard, 88, of Westfield, passed away at 8:33
a.m. Sunday (Sept. 16, 2001) at the Paris Community Hospital.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Markwell & Son
Funeral Home, Casey, with the Rev. Joe Grozik officiating. Burial will be in
Maple Hill Cemetery in Westfield. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday
at the funeral home in Casey.
Hazel was born Nov. 18, 1912 in Westfield, the daughter of Earl Clark and
Nancy E. Welsh Hammond. She married M.E. "Mart" Woodard on June 6,
1936 in Martinsville. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1998.
Surviving are her two daughters, Bette Young and her husband Ron of
Westfield and Sue Stults of Paris; one sister, Reba Laws of Ft Wayne, Ind.;
six grandchildren, Julie Davis and her husband David and Steve Lamb and
his wife Sandra, all of Westfield, Rebecca Winchester of St. Peters, Mo.,
Nancy Young and her husband Bill of St. Charles, Mo., Kristi Knowles and
her husband James of Marshall, and Jason Stults of Paris; and nine
great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Woodard was a homemaker and member of the Westfield United
Methodist Church.

Norma Daniels
BETHANY - Mrs. Norma Elaine Daniels, 76, of Bethany, died at 12:10
p.m. September 15, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2001, in the
First Christian Church, Bethany, visitation will be Monday from 6:00 p.m.
to 8:00 p.m. in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Bethany. Burial will be
in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany. Memorials: First
Christian Church, Bethany.
Mrs. Daniels was born on May 3, 1925, in Lovington, the daughter of Otho
W. and Vivian Gladville Snyder. She was a retired telephone operator in
Dalton City, graduate of Brown Business College, Former Deacon and
Sunday School Teacher with over 50 years with the First Christian Church,
Bethany. Member of the R.S.V.P. Volunteer. She married Philip F. Daniels
on March 21, 1959 in Moultrie County.
She is survived by her husband Philip of Bethany; daughter, Eleanor Ann
Moralcs and husband Amador (J.R.) of Bethany; grandchildren, John
Philip, Kristy Ann, David Michael; sister, Eleanor Snyder of Bethany; and
aunt, Mary Gladville of Lovington.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her grandchildren
were her pride and joy, she will never be replaced.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mary E. Chapman
Mary E. Chapman, 84, of Arcola, IL passed away at 5:15 a.m. Sunday,
September 16, 2001 at Arcola Health Care Center in Arcola, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2001
at the First Christian Church in Arcola, IL. Dick Miller will officiate. Burial
will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, IL. Visitation will
be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at the Edwards
Funeral Home, 221 E. Main St., Tuscola, IL.
Mary was born January 18, 1917 in Tolono, IL. She was a daughter of
Roland B. and Addie (Bickel) Little. She married Harlan Earl Chapman on
April 26, 1936 in Tolono, IL. He passed away on March 1, 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Ted Chapman and his wife Patty of
Taylorville, IL and Stanley Chapman and his wife Sue of San Francisco,
CA; two daughters, Chlora Little and her husband Byron of Arcola, IL and
Dixie Maninfior of Neoga, IL; nine grandchildren, Clyde Stoedter of
Taylorville, IL, Jacob and Lincoln Chapman of San Francisco, CA, Darrell
Little of Springfield, IL, Michele Lindenmeyer and her husband Mitch of
Arcola, IL, Angie Hobgood and her husband Brent of Olivette, IL, Mark
Maninfior and his wife Susan, Jeff Maninfior and his wife Amy and Miles
Maninfior and his wife Kelly, all of Mattoon, IL.; thirteen
great-grandchildren, Madison Stoedter, Jordan, Jared and Kaurie

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl, one brother,
Roland B. Little Jr., and one sister, Helen Sydebotham.
Mary was a member of the First Christian Church of Arcola, IL and the
Christian Women's Fellowship at the church. She was a member of the
Douglas County Home Extension. She enjoyed sewing, gardening as well as
canning.

MATTOON - Mary Kay Carso, 74, of Mattoon, died at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday
(Oct. 2, 2001) at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Lawrence Harshbarger
GALLATIN, Tenn. - Lawrence "Larry" Stephen Harshbarger Jr., 71, of
Gallatin, Tenn., died Sept. 20, 2001.
A memorial service was held at the Hendersonville Chapel. Burial with full
military rites was conducted at the Nashville National Cemetery. The Noble
Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Aug. 14, 1930, in Onarga, the son of Lawrence Stephen Sr.
and Gladys Cole Harshbarger. He married Ruby Eaton; she survives.
Other survivors include five sons, Rod and Paul Cook, and Mitch
Harshbarger, all of Hendersonville, Tenn., Mark Harshbarger of
Goodlettsville, Tenn., and Mike Harshbarger of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; one
daughter, Debbie Gerbers of Loveland, Colo.; one sister, Mardelle
Goldsmith of Mattoon; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Harshbarger retired as an Army sergaent E-7 after serving 20 years in
the military and was currently employed by ABC Auction Co. He was a
member of the Hendersonville Chapel.
Edith Hollingsworth
PARIS - Edith Maxine Griffin-Hollingsworth, 78, of Paris, died at 11:30
a.m. Sunday (Sept. 30, 2001) at her residence.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home
in Paris. Burial will be in the Edgar County Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 7, 1922, in Sandford, Ind., the daughter of Emory and
Vivian Grismer McConkey. She married Donald Hollingsworth; he died in
1990.
Survivors include one son, Robert "Bill" Griffin of Mattoon; three
daughters, Ruth Wilson-Labaume of Linton, Ind., Barbara Griffin-Shepard
of Paris and Judy Griffin-Jenkins of Tulsa, Okla.; two stepsons, James
Griffin of Houston and Kenneth Griffin of Paris; four stepdaughters,
Jeanette Tinsman of Paris, Donna Winklepleck of Colorado, Linda
Griffin-Keefer of Texas and Jean Griffin-Phillips of Washington; four
brothers, Russell McConkey of Broughton, Harold McConkey of Rapid
City, S.D., Junior McConkey of Cohassett, Minn., and Kenneth
McConkey of Redmon; two sisters, Wanda Goodwin and Kathleen Wilson,
both of Paris; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was a Cook at Ogden's Cafe.
Jennie Lawrence
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Jennie Lawrence, 82, of Terre Haute, Ind.,
formerly of Marshall, died Monday (Oct. 1, 2001) at her residence.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday in the Callahan and Hughes
Funeral Home, Terre Haute, Ind., with the Rev. Robert Swenson
officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral
home.
She was born July 31, 1919, in Marshall, the daughter of Charles and
Frances Maddy Lawrence.
Survivors include one sister, Lorene Staubus of Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Miss Lawrence worked at Elder Beerman department stores for over 20
years.

Harold Lindsey
CHRISMAN - Harold Arthur Lindsey, 82, of rural Chrisman, died at 12:50
a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 2, 2001) at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, Ind.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Sutton and Son Funeral Home, Paris.
Burial will be in Edgar Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at
the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 5, 1919, in Buck Township, the son of Arthur and
Minnie Young Lindsey. He married Joan Huls in 1941; she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Max Lindsey of Carrollton and Michael
Lindsey of Paris; two daughters, Carole Anne Cheathan of Paris and
Jeannette Annis of Charleston; one brother, Lloyd Lindsey of Paris; one
sister, Patricia Krumpeck of Valencia, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.
Mr. Lindsey was a retired Edgar County farmer, former security guard of
Zenith Corp. and worked at Illinois Cereal Mills in Paris for many years.
He was a member and former trustee of Horace Baptist Church, and a
former board member of Edgar County Farm Bureau.
