DECATUR - Kathleen Marilyn "Kathy" Atwood, 47, of Decatur, died Thursday (Sept. 27, 2001) in Stanford, Conn.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church in Decatur. Burial will be in the Harristown Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. The Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born July 28, 1954, the daughter of David and Marilyn Wollenberg McCollum. She married Kent Atwood in 1976; he survives.
Other survivors include her parents of Homewood; one son, Mike Atwood of Decatur; one daughter, Amy Atwood of Decatur; and one brother, Timothy McCollum of Charleston.
Mrs. Atwood was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and was involved in United Way, Red Cross and the March of Dimes. She was director of human resources at Amdocs, Champaign. She formerly worked at Kemper Insurance.

Sharon Baker
CLINTON - Sharon I. Baker, 75, of Clinton, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 30, 2001) at her residence.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Clinton. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.
She was born April 15, 1926, in Weldon, the daughter of Henry Pearl and Crystal Baker. She married Jesse "Pete" Baker in 1947; he died in 1991.
Survivors include one daughter, Terry Dunn of Mattoon; one sister, Ada Katherine Martinez of W. Port, Conn.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son.
Mrs. Baker was a member of Golden Eagle of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 593.

LORENE CASPERSON
Lorene Myrtle Casperson, age 81, of Mattoon, passed away at 6:01 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2001, at her residence.
Graveside funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning at the Marissa Cemetery near Belleville. The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Lorene was born September 19, 1920, in Conran, Missouri, a daughter of Arthur and Amy Wolfe Cooper.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Milam and husband Kent of Mattoon and their children Dr. Kevin C. Milam and fiancee, Kelly Davis of Herrin and Brian D. Milam of Charleston; Cheryl Hood and husband Ron of Millstadt and their children, J. Kyle Hood and wife Meghan of Chicago, G. Drue Hood and wife Kelly of Collinsville and Kendra J. Hood of Millstadt; twin sister, Pauline Schmidt and husband William of Cahokia; and one brother, Raymond Cooper and wife "Bert" of Sparta.
Lorene was a homemaker and was a member of the Arthur Methodist Church.

Irma Dickason
ARTHUR - Irma Lucille Dickason, 89, of Arthur, formerly of Argenta, died at 9:16 a.m. Monday (Oct. 1, 2001) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Shrader Funeral Home, Arthur, with the Rev. James Elder officiating. Burial will be in the Bourbon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was born July 29, 1912, in Clay County, the daughter of Asa and Della Hale Stipp. She married Lester Dickason in 1936; he died in 1987.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathie Chandler of Arthur and Judy Rodmaker of Decatur; one brother, Myron Stipp of Urbana; one sister, Wreatha Peters of Charleston; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, three brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Dickason helped farm for 23 years and was a cook for the Villa Grove schools. She was a member of the Garver Brick United Methodist Church of Decatur.

George "Jack" Hollensbe
HAZEL DELL - George "Jack" Hollensbe, 91, of Hazel Dell died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday (September 29, 2001) at Hazel Dell, IL.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday (today) at Barkley Funeral Home in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hazel Dell Cemetery.
He was born March 18, 1910, at Hazel Dell, IL, the son of Ira and Josephine Kelly Hollensbe. He married Helen Luke on March 10, 1930; she died in 1972.
Survivors include two sons, Larry and wife Shirley Hollensbe of Hazel Dell, and Tom and wife Becky Hollensbe of Tuscola, IL; two grandsons, Scott and wife Monica of Hazel Dell, Randy and friend Chrissy of Hazel Dell; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Cody Hollensbe of Hazel Dell; one step granddaughter, Mindy Ray; and one step great-granddaughter, Paige Fullerton of Decatur, IL.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; one grandson, Tony Hollensbe; one sister, and two brothers.

Neva Lacey
CASEY - Neva Lacey, 80, of Casey, died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 30, 2001) at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Markwell Funeral Home in Casey with the Rev. Rick Emrich officiating. Burial will be in the Hazel Dell Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home.
She was born Nov. 26, 1920, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Claude and Martha Opal Laymon Huddlestun. She married Richard D. Lacey in 1962; he died in 1994.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Marjorie Whaley of Christopher.
Mrs. Lacey was a retired co-owner of Lacey's Grocery Store of Casey. She was a member of the Hazel Dell Church of God and former member of the Casey B.P.W.

DOROTHY PIERCE
Dorothy D. Pierce, age 91, of Mattoon, passed away at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, September, 29, 2001, at the Mattoon Health Care Center.
Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. E. E. Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in the Gaskill Cemetery, west of Neoga. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Schilling Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born April 12, 1910, in Shelby County, the daughter of Ben and Lulu Carruthers Doll. She married Robert Lee Bell in May of 1930. He preceded her in death in March of 1942. She married Clarence Pierce in January of 1953. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1977.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Cook of Bellevue, Washington; three stepdaughters, Betty Tracy and husband Norman of Norman, Oklahoma, Martha Prentice and husband Joseph of Villa Grove, Frances Sanders and husband Paul of Mattoon; three granddaughters, Paula Lapam, Janis Morris and Carla Vanderpool; eight step-grandchildren, Steven, David and Judith Sanders, Jimmy, Gary and Randy Prentice, Susan Contreras and Janice Van Tine; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Carl, Clayton "Tobe", John and Donald Doll, two infant sisters and one step-grandson, Richard Tracy.
Mrs. Pierce worked as an executive secretary for Atlas Imperial Diesel Company, Kuehne Manufacturing and the New York Central Railroad. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for sixty-one years. Dorothy was also a former Deaconess and member of the Diaconate.

Mary Richards
MATTOON - Mary E. Richards, 88, of Mattoon, formerly of West Liberty, died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 30, 2001) at the Sullivan Health
Care Center.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Olney, with the Rev. David A. McNabb officiating. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery, rural Noble. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 8, 1913, in Noble, the daughter of Joseph and Nettie Brooks VanBlaricum.
Survivors include four sons, Larry Richards of Mattoon, Harry Richards of Decatur, Willie Richards of Neoga and Ray Richards of Taylorville; one sister, Helen Neff of Cisne; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Richards had worked for International Shoe Factory in Olney. She was a member of the Mattoon Moose Lodge.

Kathleen Atwood

Marion Ballinger
Marion W. "Mick" Ballinger Sr., 62, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 12:35 PM Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001 in the Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL.
Mr. Ballinger was born Feb. 2, 1939 at Etna, IL the son of Henry and Opal Shadow Ballinger.
Mr. Ballinger was formerly employed by B & J Redi-Mix and Hanfland Sand and Gravel Co. both of Shelbyville. He was a sports enthusiast and outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and ride his Harley. More than anything though, he loved time spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
He married Verna Jean Martin in 1962 and she survives. Also surviving are sons Wes and Edward both of Shelbyville; a daughter, Roxann Heaton and husband Bill of Champaign, IL; grandchildren, Zachary and Alec Ballinger of Moweaqua, IL, Jessica and Jenna Shedhelm, Josh Payne and Beth Heaton, all of Champaign, IL; brothers, Dale Ballinger and wife Polly of Stewardson, IL, Jesse Gene Ballinger and wife Ruby of Neoga, IL, Raymond Ballinger and wife Joyce of Stewardson, Ervin Ballinger and wife Linda of Altamont; and one aunt, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Junior Ballinger and wife Lois and one sister and brother-in-law, Delores Mueller and husband Calvin.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 in the Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Rev. Wade Helmkamp will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday. Burial will be in Swedish Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Habitat for Humanity or the Shelby County Rescue Squad.
