TUSCOLA - Charles Earl "Charlie" Karn, 73, of Tuscola, died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at Tuscola.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bethel Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola.
He was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Earl and Nina Eva Hopkins Karn. He married Verlee Malcom in 1952; she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Paula Dawn Karn of Tuscola.
He was preceded in death by two sons.
Mr. Karn had retired from USI Chemical Company, Tuscola. He was a member of the Logan Street Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Tuscola Moose Lodge and the Villa Grove VFW Post. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Roscoe Meridith Kersey
MATTOON - Roscoe Kersey, 79, of Mattoon passed away at 4:50 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2001 at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend Henry Graham officiating. Interment will be at the French Cemetery south west of Allenville with full Military Rites. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will be held at 7 p.m.
Roscoe was born on December 2, 1921 in Mattoon, the son of Clarence Jennings and Clara Belle Cody Kersey. He married Virginia Katheryn Byus of June 17, 1941 in Mattoon. She died on July 7, 1981.
He is survived by three sons, C. David Kersey, and Tom Kersey, both of Mattoon; Michael (Tony) Kersey of Taylorville; two daughters, Mrs. Terry (Judy) Canupp of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Virginia (Suzie) Wright of Charleston. He is also survived by one brother Clarence L. Kersey of Mattoon; one sister, Frances Hayes of Chandler, Arizona; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Earl; son, Meredith "Bud" Kersey; and infant daughter, Anita Louise.
Roscoe graduated from Mattoon High School and was employed by Bridges Pharmacy until his induction into the Marine Corps and served in World War II. After returning home from the service, he began working for the Railway Express Agency in Mattoon, where he worked until its closure. He then became a security officer at Eastern Illinois University until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Kersey was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Masonic Lodge #260. In high school, he was a member of the Mattoon Drum and Bugle Corp. He was an avid trapper and hunter. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Marie Snodgrass
TOLEDO - Marie Snodgrass, 90, of Toledo, died at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

James Walden
MARTINSVILLE - James Walden, 65, of Martinsville, died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at Terre Haute Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Saturday at the Greenwell Funeral Home, Martinsville, with the Rev. Sonny Haumesser officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 7, 1936, in Charleston, the son of Richard M. and Zelma Watson Walden. He married Mary Hupp in 1969; she survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Kathy Clement of Terre Haute, Ind., Tina Diltz of Ashmore and Terry Walden of Champaign; three stepdaughters, Toody Hackett of Charleston, Linda Davis of Westfield and Jerry Wrigth of Kansas; one brother, Ronnie "Gig" Walden of Taylorville; one sister, Judy Baker of Charleston; and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
Mr. Walden was a retired construction worker.

Maretta Warner
TRAVERSE CITY - Maretta L. Warner, 87, of Traverse City, formerly of Charleston, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at Orchard Creek Assisted Living.
The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City, is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Jan. 26, 1914, in Traverse City, the daughter of James S. and Etta L. Minor Martinek. She married Robert A. Warner in 1940; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, James M. Warner of Traverse City and Allen R. Warner of Ann Arbor, and five grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother.
Mrs. Warner taught vocal music in Pontiac, Mich., and in Charleston. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood and MU PHI Epsilon and music sorority. She played string bass in the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.
Memorials may be made to the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.
Raymond West
CLINTON - Raymond F. West, 90, of Clinton, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at the Christian Village Nursing Home, Lincoln.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with the Rev. Fred Keim officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 22, 1911, in Weldon, the son of Ira West of Lula M. Pearl. He married Nellie Koons in 1934; she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Larry West of Toulon and Norman West of Greenup; one sister, Pearl Gale of Gibson City; four brothers, Robert West of Leroy, Harold West of Downs, Jim West of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Gene West of Coffeen; nine grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.
Mr. West was a farmer. He was a member of the Hallsville Christian Church, a 50-year member of the DeWitt Lodge 84 AF and AM, Eastern Star and Chapter Council.

JANE WOODYARD
CHARLESTON, IL - Ella Jane Woodyard, age 92, of Charleston, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at her residence. Services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 26 (2001) with Reverend Bill Boaz officiating. Visitation will be held this evening (Thursday) from 5:00 - 7:00. Visitation will close with special services conducted by the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post #1592 of Charleston. Services and visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Interment will follow the services in Mound Cemetery.
Jane was born October 3,1909 in Charleston, Illinois, the daughter of William Harvey and Harriett (Nott) Dowling. On May 9,1959, she married Robert Woodyard in Charleston. He survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Katsy Stewart and her husband Jim of Lexington, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Dan Campbell and his wife Wendy of Rockford, Illinois, Vicki Wade and her husband Chuck of Lerna, Illinois, Ken Campbell and his wife Carolyn of Charleston, M.J. Ghrist and her husband Bill of Lexington, Kathy Bauknight and Barbie Stewart, both of Columbia; nine great grandchildren; and one sister, Harriett Peters of Fort Worth, Texas. She was preceded by her parents; one sister, Emily Dowling; one brother, William H. Dowling; and one daughter, Janie
Campbell.
Jane was a charter member of Charleston Community Church, Women's Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post #1592 of Charleston, a fifty-plus year member of Eastern Star - Sopha C Chapter and Women of the Moose - Charleston Chapter No. 1775. She was an avid bowler, having bowled until she reached seventy years of age and was honored by her Charleston Bowling peers by being inducted into the Charleston WBA Hall of Fame. Her hobbies included traveling, hummingbird watching, reading and in her younger years - roller skating and dancing. Many will remember her from her sixteen years as a clerk at the Charleston National Bank. But her most important endeavor, and one she truly loved, was that of homemaker. Many of her activities involved her loving and devoted husband Bob and her family, whom she dearly loved.

GRACE CLIFFORD
Grace Mary Clifford, age 91, of Mattoon, passed away at 3:20 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2001, at the Convalescent Care Center.
Funeral services will celebrating her life will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Schilling Funeral Home with Father Herman J. Niebrugge will officiate. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Cemetery, southwest of Mattoon. Visitation will be held from Noon until service time on Thursday afternoon at the funeral home.
Grace was born April 12, 1910, at Convent, Louisiana, a daughter of Baldazar and Caterina Maggio Mangiaricino. She married William J. Clifford on June 5, 1952. He passed away on December 22, 1993. She was also preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharron Schrock of Mattoon; one stepdaughter, Kathy Lane of Brooklyn, New York; two brothers, Joseph Mangiaricino of Las Vegas, Nevada and Leroy Mangiaricino of Granite City; one sister, Kate Buechele and husband Harold of Granite City; eight grandchildren, including special granddaughter, Tiffany Grace Schrock of Mattoon and special grandson, Todd W. Harper and wife Sarah and their son Jeremiah, all of Decatur.
Mrs. Clifford owned and operated Grace's Beauty Salon for twenty-three years which was located in the Sheridan Jefferson Hotel in St. Louis, Mo. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Mattoon.

Doris Meekins
CHARLESTON - Doris Bell Meekins, 89, of Charleston, died at 2:25 p.m. Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Caudill-King Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Caudill-King Funeral Home.
She was born March 8, 1912, in Charleston, the daughter of Joseph F. and Goldie Jenkins Goff. She married Charles "Reece" Bell; he died in 1952. She married Gene Waffle; he died in 1968. She married William Meekins; he died in 1988.
Survivors include three sons, Robert and John Bell, both of Charleston, and Rex Bell of Littleton, Colo.; one daughter, Martha Van Dyke of Littleton, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers.
Thomas Myles
WEST UNION - Thomas B. Myles, 78, of Danville, formerly of rural West Union, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at Danville Care Center, Danville.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Marshall Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Chapman officiating. Military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 90 and V.F.W. Post 5975. There is no visitation. Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Dec. 29, 1922, in Clark County, the son of Charles Myles and Ruth Cunningham Myles. He married Arlene Drake; she died on June 9, 2001.
Survivors include two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Myles had retired from Velsicol Chemical Corporation, Marshall, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Clark County American Legion Post 90 at Marshall and Marshall Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975.
