Melvin C. Morgan, 76, of Millstadt, died Dec. 30, 2014 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. He was born Nov. 5, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of the late Melvin O. and Alta (Turner) Morgan. Melvin married Patricia Olinda Rose (nee Fidler) Morgan. She died in 2011. Mr. Morgan is survived by his children, Wade (Cindy) Morgan of Columbia, Kelly Morgan of Dupo, Derek (Karla) Morgan of Millstadt and Kimberly (Scott) Seidle of Millstadt; grandchildren, Jacqueline (Jay) Spanley, Lisa (David) Klahs, Amy (Chris) Debourge, Derek (Melinda) Morgan, Jr., Nicholas Morgan, Dustin (Lacey) Bevill, Andy Martin, Brian Blevins and T.C. Blevins; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry (Francis) Morgan of Mead, Okla. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Moallankamp; a sister, Judy Altizer; and a son-in-law, Stephen Moallankamp. Mr. Morgan served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired civil servant. Melvin was a member of the St. Clair Lodge 24 of the A.F. and A.M. Arthur E. Wirth, 83, of Waterloo, died April 29, 2008, in Des Peres, Mo. He was born June 7, 1924, in Waterloo, the son of the late Albert L. and Clara M. Wirth nee Loehr. He was married to Wanda Wirth nee Rednour. Mr. Wirth is survived by his wife; daughter Lavonne (Leo) Broderhausen of Fults; grandsons Troy Ray of Waterloo and Timothy Peppers of Waterloo; five great-grandchildren; brother Royal (Shirley) Wirth of St. Louis; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Herbert Wirth and sister Jeanette Wirth. Mr. Wirth was a member of Maeystown Sportsman's Club. Visitation was Friday, May 2, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo. A funeral service was at Quernheim, Rev. Leo Broderhausen and Ryan Rednour officiating.
James E. Jenkins, 73, of Cahokia, died April 30, 2008, in Cahokia. He was born June 8, 1934, in Olney, the son of the late Everett and Eunice Jenkins nee May. He was married to Carol Jenkins nee Shryock. Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife; children James L. (Karen) Jenkins of St. Charles, Mo., Sharon (Tim) McMillan of Columbia, and Mary Mueller of Highland; grandchildren Kevin Wheeler, Brian Wheeler, Adam Jenkins, Elizabeth "Libby" Jenkins, Bryce Mueller, Evan Jenkins, Bret Mueller and Grant Jenkins; sisters Jane (Jack) Berry and Marie (Chuck) Kesler; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Brenda Wheeler. Mr. Jenkins was retired from ALCO Controls in Maryland Heights, Mo., and was a member of the Machinist Union District 9 Local 41. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of Cahokia VFW Post 1699. Visitation was Friday, May 2 at Dashner-Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo. Florence Helen Viola Joshu nee Schmidt, 83, of Millstadt, died April 30, 2008, in Millstadt. She was born July 21, 1924, in Columbia, the daughter of the late Edmund and Alma Schmidt nee Schmallenberger. She was married to the late Edward A. Joshu. Mrs. Joshu is survived by her children Ronald (Shirley) Joshu of Millstadt, Eugene (Rhonda) Joshu of Millstadt, Anthony (Sherri) Joshu of Millstadt, Andrea (Rich) Godlin of Parker, Colo., Christine (Darrell) Ball of Millstadt, and JoAnn (Larry) Agne of Millstadt; daughter-in-law Debra Haire-Joshu of Millstadt; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant children Barbara Joshu, Jean Joshu and Charles Joshu; son Eric Joshu; and sisters Marie (Louis) Smith and Doris (Tom) O'Donnell. Mrs. Joshu was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, the BDCCW, the Sodality, and was a volunteer at the church. Doris Jean Vogel nee Speichinger, 83, of Millstadt, died April 30, 2008, in Belleville. She was born Feb. 10, 1935, in Belleville, the daughter of the late Sylvester Speichinger and Freida Speichinger nee Greible. She married L. "Pinky" Vogel in 1952. Mrs. Vogel is survived by her husband; children Alan Lee (Cheryl) Vogel of Wilmington, Ohio, and Karen Domyan of Millstadt; grandchild Lisa Maxfield; great-grandchild Kayla; sister Mary Ann Karban of Belleville; brother Paul (Fonda) Speichinger of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister-in-law Viola "Tootie" Vogel of Belleville; step-mother Mary Speichinger of Belleville; along with nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; nieces Joni Faulstich and Sandra Hoock; sister-in-law JoLee Speichinger nee Nelson; and brothers-in-law Eugene Karban and Clarence C. Vogel. Mrs. Vogel was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1952 and worked for Gassert Garment Factory in Millstadt. Caroline I. Asselmeier, 100, of Columbia, died March 1, 2008, in Columbia. She was born Nov. 7, 1907, in Maeystown, the daughter of the late Charles and Maria “Mamie” Krone nee Schaaf. She married the late Alfred Asselmeier in 1930; he preceded her in death in 1962. Mrs. Asselmeier is survived by her son David (Shirley) Asselmeier of Columbia, grandson David “Buzz” Asselmeier, and other relatives, past students and many friends. Mrs. Asselmeier was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and the Women’s Fellowship. She taught in one-room schoolhouses in Monroe County for many years, including Hayden School in Renault, Bluff School, New Hanover School, Goeddeltown School and Gall School. She then taught with the Valmeyer School district and the Dupo School District. She retired after teaching for 37 years. She was also a member of Monroe County and Dupo Retired Teachers Association, Columbia Woman’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star – Rob Morris Chapter, and the Order of the White Shrine. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral service was at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia, Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Alice G. Wallace nee Thompson, 76, of Waterloo, died March 3, 2008, in Red Bud. She was born May 12, 1931, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Herman and Anna Thompson nee Pieron. Ms. Wallace is survived by her sons Chris E. (Renee) Price and Daniel S. (Nancy) Wallace; grandchildren Edward Scott Hodges, Dawn Marie Hodges, Douglas Scott Hodges, Nahoma Wallace, Jamie R. Ledbetter, Ashley M. Ledbetter, Bailey C. Price and Libby G. Price; sister Hilda Barcum; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Kimberly K. Kennebeck. Ms. Wallace was a member of First Baptist Church of Waterloo and the Women’s Bible Study Group. Emilie W. Bernau, 97, of Waterloo, died March 3, 2008, in Columbia. She was born Feb. 28, 1911, in Van Meter, Iowa, the daughter of the late August C. and Marie Bernau nee Van Buren. Ms. Bernau is survived by her brothers Roland Bernau of Burt, Iowa, and Ernest (Luana) Bernau of Fountain, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Vera (Henry) Harms and Ida Faulstick, and brothers Otto Bernau and August Bernau. Ms. Bernau was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and was active in Bible Study. Visitation and a funeral service were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor Tony Troup officiating. She is buried at Waterloo Cemetery in Waterloo.
Timothy W. Rambo II, 21, of Waterloo, formerly of Cahokia and Dupo, died March 1, 2008 at his residence. He was born Oct. 16, 1986 in Belleville. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Betty Rambo. Surviving are a daughter, Brook Kenner of Cahokia; his fiancé, Jessica Stahl of Waterloo; mother and step-father Dana and Keith Radford of Waterloo; father, Timothy (Patricia) Basse Rambo of Pontoon Beach; brothers Dustin Davis, Jeremy Rambo and Keith Radford; sisters Shannon McFarland, Krystal Germard and Miranda Basse; grandparents Bob Rambo of Cahokia, Rita Howard of Dupo, Thomas Ventimiglia of Ironton., Mo., and Golden and Bernetta Radford of Cahokia.; along with seven uncles and seven aunts. He was a dear nephew, cousin and friend. Visitation and funeral were at Braun Colonial Funeral Home in Cahokia.
Jason M. Spytek, 32, of Columbia, died March 3, 2008 at St. Anthony's Medical Center. He was born July 3, 1975 in Belleville. He is survived parents John and Marcia Spytek; a brother, John C. (Amy) Spytek of Waterloo; a sister, Christena (Jamie) Frank of St. Louis, Mo.; paternal grandmother, Josephine "Sue" Spytek; and maternal grandmother, Doris Hamilton; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Debra Sue Spytek; and grandfathers Leo Spytek and David "Skeeter" Hamilton. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of Ironworkers Local 396 and Dupo VFW Post 6368. Visitation and funeral were at the Quernheim Funeral Home, Dr. Dennis R. Jones officiating. Burial was at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
