WEST TERRE HAUTE, IN - James Wilbur Hawkins, 75, of West Terre Haute, died at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2001 in Royal Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at Terre Haute. He retired from farming and was currently employed as a storeroom clerk with the Sisters of Providence at St. Mary Of The Woods. He was born July 6, 1926, at Coles County, IL to Wilbur Hawkins and Eva England Hawkins.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene Rikard Hawkins whom he married December 10, 1949 at Kansas, IL; a daughter and son-in-law, Ronda E. and Keith Antilla of Memphis, TN; a son, James "Rick" Hawkins of Tampa, FL; his stepmother, Mary Hawkins of Dennison, IL; a grandson, Dana I. Stapp of Clearwater, FL; and a great-grandson, Dana I. Stapp, Jr. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Eva and Owen Gallagher; and his father, Wilbur Hawkins.
He was a graduate of Paris (IL) High School. He was an Army veteran of WW II. A member of the First United Methodist Church of West Terre Haute; and the American Legion Post at Shelburn. He and his wife have been volunteers at the Providence Pantry at West Terre Haute since it's opening.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. (Indiana time) Wednesday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home with Reverends Sandy Clark and Jerry Clark officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Kansas, IL, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 211 at Paris, IL, and American Legion Post of Kansas. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 7:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday. There will be a meal for friends and family prior to the services at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 116 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Pantry with envelopes available in the funeral home.
Carol Marsh
WELDON - Carol Ann Marsh, 84, of Weldon, died Sunday (Nov. 25, 2001) at the Jackson Heights Nursing Home, Farmer City.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Trigg and Calvert Weldon Chapel with the Rev. C. Don Ferrill and the Rev. Louella Pence officiating. Burial will be in Weldon Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel.
She was born Jan. 28, 1917, in Oconee, the daughter of Luther Watson and Alice Brown. She married R.A. Marsh in 1941; he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Robert Marsh of Cisco; one daughter, Carolyn Poffinbarger of Charleston; two sisters, Opal Watson of Pana and Clara Shull of Monticello; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Mrs. Marsh had taught school in DeWitt and Piatt counties. She was affiliated with the Weldon United Methodist Church and was a member of the Women's Committee of DeWitt County Farm Bureau and Illinois Shorthorn Ladies Club.

Bonnie Overmyer
SUN CITY, Fla. - Bonnie Overmyer, of Sun City, Fla., formerly of Illinois, died October 23, 2001 in Sun City Center, Fla.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001 at Deer Creek Christian Church University Park, Ill. Memorials may be made to: Deer Creek Christian Church Chile Mission, Paul Overmyer, 425 Exchange St., University Park, IL 60466, to support Paul's Missionary Work.
Bonnie was born Dec. 8, 1946, in Mount Vernon, Ill., a daughter of Orlan and Marie Tribe. She married Paul Overmyer from Neoga, in April of 1967.
Survivors include her husband, Paul and a daughter, Sandy Overmyer, who are preparing for Missionary work in Chile; sons, Robert Overmyer of Wilmington, Ill., Jeffrey Overmyer of California; mother, Marie Tribe of Flora, Ill.; brothers, Jim, Jack, John and Jerry Tribe; sisters, Betty Atteberry and Brenda Wheeler; mother-in-law, Jennie Overmyer of Mattoon, Ill.; plus many friends and other relatives.
Betty Pearce
MACOMB - Betty E. Pearce, 88, of Macomb, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 27, 2001) at her residence.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Green officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
She was born Sept. 1, 1913, in Colchester, the daughter of Cecil Belshaw and Lela Parnell. She married George I. Pearce in 1935; he died in 2000.
Survivors include one son, Richard Pearce of Monmouth; three daughters, Sally Cottle of Kansas, Georgia Beltz of Charleston and Roxilee Vawter of Industry; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by four sisters and one grandchild.
Mrs. Pearce was a bookkeeper at Montgomery Wards and Supreme Radio Communications, both in Macomb.

RONNIE BOLEN
Charles Ronald "Ronnie" Bolen, age 51, of Mattoon, passed away at 2:50 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2001, at his sister's residence.
Funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Schilling Funeral Home with Thomas Culp Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until service time on Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home.
Ronnie was born October 5, 1950, in Tuscola, a son of Charles Rono and Ruby L. Gast Bolen. He married Kathy A. Powers.
Survivors include one son, Jason B. Bolen of Mattoon; two daughters, Gina A. Bolen and Kimberly A. Colbert and husband Ronald, all of Mattoon; one brother, Harvey L. Bolen and wife Shelly J. of Mattoon; five sisters, Louise Bean and husband Ronnie of rural Neoga, Sandra S. Ohm and husband Robert E. of Mattoon, Sharon K. Newlin and husband Brad W. of Mattoon, Pam J. Culp and husband Thomas L. of rural Charleston, and Cindy M. Utley and husband Joseph C. Jr. of Mattoon; two grandchildren, Hollie M. Colbert and Bryson A. Colbert, both of Mattoon; and sixteen nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Jacob A. Colbert.
Mr. Bolen was a former construction laborer and a former member of the Sons of the American Legion. Ronnie loved to be outdoors and going fishing.

EARL KENNETH BYARD
ARCOLA, IL - Earl Kenneth Byard, 85, of Arcola, IL passed away at 12:07 a.m. Sunday, November 25, 2001 at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, IL.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2001 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 E. Main St., Arcola, IL. Rev. Richard Chamberlain of East Peoria will officiate. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, IL. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a Masonic service, conducted by the Urbana Lodge #157 AF & AM, at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2001 at the funeral home.
Earl was born October 3, 1916, in Greensburg, IN. He was a son of Roy and Goldie M. (Sanders) Byard. He married Ruth Winters on June 14, 1933, in Covington, IN.
Survivors include: his wife, Ruth Byard of Arcola, IL; one son, Kenneth L. Byard and his wife Sonja of Arcola, IL; two daughters, Marliss J. Gregerson and her husband Joseph of Cheney, WA and Phyliss J. Howard of San Diego, CA; one brother, Warren C. Byard and his wife Virginia of Champaign, IL; one sister, Thelma Krabbe and her husband Fred of East Peoria, IL; eight grandchildren, Michael Williams, Debra Sisk, David Williams, Steven Starwalt, Kristin Ryan, Kenneth Byard, Shelley Samuels and Kevin Byard; 16 great-grandchildren.
His parents; one granddaughter, Kristin Marie Williams; and three brothers, preceded him in death.
Earl was affiliated with the Methodist Church.
Earl graduated from Urbana High School in 1934. He was a DeMolay "Dad" for the Order of DeMolay Boys. He was a life member of the Urbana Masonic Lodge #157 AF & AM, Order of the True Kindred. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a 50 year member of the Danville Consistory.
Earl was a Milkman for Urbana Pure Milk Company from 1936-1969. He delivered milk in the Champaign-Urbana area for 32 years and he started out driving a horse and wagon. After he retired he operated Earl's 45 in Arcola for 11 years from 1970-1981. He also repaired radios and televisions in his spare time. He enjoyed fishing as well as traveling and was a Chicago Bear fan and a die hard Cub fan.

CHARLESTON - Howard Edward Chumbley, 70, of Charleston, formerly of Arcola, died at 11:10 a.m. Monday (Nov. 26, 2001) at the Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

DORIS JEAN DOTY
CHARLESTON, IL - Doris Jean Doty, age 70 of Charleston, passed away on Sunday, November 25 (2001) at her rural Charleston home. Services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 30 with Reverend Dale Beck officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5-7. Services and Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive in Charleston. Interment will be held in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston.
Doris was born June 13, 1931 in Charleston, Illinois the daughter of John and Dorothy (Shreeves) Snyder. On August 23, 1963 she married Dale T. Doty in Charleston.
Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Snyder of Charleston, three sons, Rex Doty and his wife Sheila and Dean Doty and his wife Carol, all of Charleston and Samuel T. Doty and his wife Wanda of Westminster, California; nine grandchildren, Michael Doty, Christina Doty, Matthew Doty, Rachel Jean Doty and Kendel Ranae Doty, all of Charleston, Angela Doty and Dale T. Doty of Westminster, Sam Hills of Corona, California and Thomas Mellen who is serving with the U.S. Navy; two special adopted grandchildren, Erica East and Nicholas East, both of Charleston; three brothers, Richard "Bud" Snyder and his wife Joan of Tustin, California and Harold Snyder and Charles Snyder, both of Lake Havasu, Arizona; and one sister-in-law, Norman Dean Doty of Green Valley, Arizona. She was preceded by her father; her husband, Dale who passed away on February 19, 1999; one daughter, Dale Lee Drumm; and two brothers, Robert Snyder and Donald Snyder.
Doris was a member of the Coles County Farm Bureau and the Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston where she often served as a Greeter with her granddaughter, Rachel. She enjoyed card games, mowing the family homestead, attending yard sales and flower and vegetable gardening, especially raising sweet corn. Cooking was a favorite, too and she was famous for serving family members and friends her chowder every fall, cooked outside in a large iron kettle. She also served as a Red Cross Volunteer. Prior to assuming an active role in her and Dale#,s farming operation, she was employed at the Charleston Brown Shoe Plant. Of all her interests, none exceeded the love she held for Rex, Dean, Sam and their families.

Treva Jones
ARCOLA - Treva Viola Jones, 91, of Arcola, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday (Nov. 26, 2001) at Hilltop Convalescent Center, Charleston.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Barkley Funeral Home, Greenup. Burial will be in Bell Cemetery, rural Greenup. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.
She was born May 15, 1910, in Greenup, the daughter of Henry and Rose Rhue Kuhn. She married Myno Jones in 1928; he died in 1990.
Survivors include one daughter, Treva Cobb of Humboldt; one sister, Eva Hurt of Greenup; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker. She was a life member of the O.E.S.
