CHAMPAIGN - George Delgado, 77, of Champaign, formerly of the Charleston area, died at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday (June 5, 2002) at his residence in Champaign.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Taber Funeral Home, Oakland. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A graveside service with military rites will be 2 p.m. Monday at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. The military rites will be performed by the Interveterans Group of Sangamon County.
He was born Nov. 13, 1924, in Berkeley, Calif., the son of Lewis and Amanda Pena Delgado. He married Marclynn K. Lutz in 1968; she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Peoples and Christina Fourman, both of Champaign; two brothers, Tony Delgado of San Leondro, Calif., and Martin Delgado of Fremont, Calif.; one sister, Helen Cunico of LaHabra, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Delgado retired from the Army after 20 years. He was a chef at many area restaurants and fraternity houses in the Champaign-Urbana area.

Jerry Rudman
BROOKHAVEN, Miss. - Jerry Thomas Rudman, 75, of Brookhaven, Miss., died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at King's Daughter's Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Mississippi. Burial will be in Riverwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Brookhaven Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. wake prayer service.
He was born May 8, 1927, in Chicago, the son of Jerry and Valasta Rudman.
Survivors include his wife, Iris Coker Rudman; sons, Jerry Rudman of New Hope, Pa., Jon Rudman of Ramstein, Germany, and Joel Rudman of Niceville, Fla.; daughters, Judy Rudman of Brookhaven, Suzanne Brooks of Georgetown, Texas; one sister, Shirley Glenn of Mattoon; and seven grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one sister.
Mr. Rudman served as controller of Johnston Lawn Mower Corporation in Brookhaven. He opened an independent accounting practice in 1962, became the director of Brookhaven Country Club, president of the Industrial Development Foundation of the Chamber of Commerce, a Brookhaven school board member for 10 years, member of the Brookhaven Noon Lions Club and St. Francis Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Ministries, Inc., or St. Francis Catholic Church, Brookhaven, Miss.
Robert Taylor
DECATUR - Robert Dean Taylor, 79, of Decatur, formerly of Arthur, died at 3:54 p.m. Thursday (June 6, 2002) at Lincoln Manor in Decatur.

Loretta "Jean" Moore
CHARLESTON - Loretta "Jean" Moore, 69, of Charleston, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Funeral services honoring her life will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Monday, June 10, 2002, at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home with Monty Walters officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until services Monday at the funeral home.
Loretta was born April 27, 1933, in Edgar County, daughter of Dale and Ethel DeVall Glidewell. Survivors include four sons: John Moore and Dan Moore of Charleston, Steve Moore and wife Sandy of Marana, Arizona and Mike Moore and wife Deb of Villa Grove, Illinois. Two brothers, Bob Glidewell and wife Charlotte of Georgetown, IL, Donnie Glidewell and wife Ruth of Mattoon, and one sister: Shirley Swanson of Galesburg, Illinois; special friend, Brenda Carroll. Nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Albert Moore, and her life long friend: John "Bud" Nixon.
Loretta retired in 1987 from Eastern Illinois University, where she had been a food service worker for more than thirty years.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Lois "Josie" Slifer
SULLIVAN - Lois Josephine "Josie" Slifer, 98, of Sullivan, died at 2:05 a.m. Thursday (June 6, 2002), in her home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan, with the Rev. Dr. David Leslie officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Burial will be in the Cochran Cemetery, in rural Windsor. Memorials: First Christian Church, Sullivan, or to the Ash Grove Christian Church, Windsor, donor's choice.
She was born on October 15, 1903 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma Territory, the daughter of Tom and Elizabeth Hardy Tice. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Sullivan, Order of Eastern Star Crystal Chapter #39, past member of the Moultrie County Home Extension, W.C.T.U., and the Bell Hopper Missionary Society. She married Clem E. Slifer on October 6, 1920. He preceded her in death in 1971.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Darrel (Mildred) Davis of Sullivan; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Vail and infant Dorothy Jean; 3 brothers, & 3 sisters.
E. Vivian Sullivan
SULLIVAN - E. Vivian Sullivan, 87, of Sullivan, died at 1:00 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2002, in her home.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002 in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan, with the Rev. Dr. David Leslie officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour before service time. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials: Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library, First Christian Church, Sullivan, or to the Lincoln Land Hospice.
She was born on April 8, 1915, in Pittsburgh, IL, the daughter of Morton Calloway and Ada Mae Hayes Scheretz. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Sullivan, Naomi Circle at the First Christian Church, Sullivan, Order of the Easter Star Crystal Chapter #39, Sullivan. She married Homer E. Sullivan, on August 31, 1940, in St. Charles, Mo., he preceded her in death on December 25, 1995.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Thomas and husband Jim of Sullivan, Sharon Wiley and husband Jim of Bloomington; brother, Robert Scheretz of Rockford; sister, Gaynelle Jacobs of Herrin; grandchildren, Nichole Atchison of Sullivan, Michael Thomas of Woodstock, IL; 3 great-grandchildren; she is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 1 brother.
Dr. Waldron Keith "Sonny" Seolas
Dr. Waldron Keith "Sonny" Seolas, 71, of Provo, Utah, died at the Provo Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo early Friday morning, April 6, 2001 after an extended illness. He was born June 16, 1929 in Robinson, IL, the son of Samuel Seolas and Helen Sarah Berry Seolas. He was a medical doctor and a member of the American Medical Association. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by 3 children, Suzette Seolas Blanke, Robert Keith Seolas, and James Robert Seolas.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, April 22, at 12:30 p.m. at the Robinson New Cemetery. Ken Harrelson, President, Robinson Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is in charge of the service. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Sunday at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson, prior to the graveside service.
David F. Simpson
David F. Simpson, 71, of Robinson, died at his home at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001 after suffering for an extended period of time from leukemia. He was born September 6, 1929 in Springfield, IL, the son of Raymond Luther Simpson and Mary Ellen Market Simpson.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart in that action. He was a member of the Robinson VFW Post #4549, had been a member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69, the Robinson Moose Lodge #1369; and an active member of the Flo's Coffee Club for years. He had been employed by the Hutsonville CIPS plant as a boiler operator. He also was a member of the Operating Engineer Union #109.
David married Velma Davis on July 24, 1950 and she survives. He is also survived by 2 sons and his daughter-in-law, Stephen Kent and Barbara Simpson, Robinson, and David L. Simpson, Robinson; 4 grandchildren, Cassandra Simpson, Phoenix, AZ, Kacie Simpson, Phoenix, Stephen Patrick and his wife Carrie Simpson, Robinson, and Christ Nicole Simpson, Cape Girardeau, MO; 1 great-grandson, Christian Guy Simpson, Robinson; and his sister-in-law, Betty Simpson, Robinson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Simpson.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2001 at the Robinson New Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon Friday until service time at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson. Charles Rains is in charge of services. Memorials may be made to the Lincoln Trail Hospice with envelopes at the funeral home.
Col. Michael Barszcz, Ret.
Col. Michael Barszcz, Ret., 79, of Robinson, IL, died at his home of an apparent heart attack Saturday, April 14, 2001. He was born October 18, 1921 in Mosinee, Wisconsin, the son of Michael Barszcz and Helen Wojcik Barszcz.
Col. Barszcz began his Army career in 1940 as an enlisted man. Two years later, he received a 2nd Lieutenant's commission up graduation from Office Candidate School at Ft. Benning, GA. During WWII he served in the Pacific where he participated in campaigns from Guadalcanal to the Philippines. He was a veteran of combat in Korea and Vietnam, with tours in Europe and Japan. Among the medals he has earned in his career is the Silver Star for action in Korea, the Purple Heart for wounds received in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He also received the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit among other medals and citations. He retired from the U.S. Army on April 30, 1970 after 30 years of service, where upon he moved to Robinson.
He was a member of the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, the Robinson VFW Post #4549, and the Robinson Moose Lodge #1369.
He married Annette Reizer on January 10, 1942 and she survives. He is also survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Don Nash, Robinson, Susan and Scott Stitt, Springfield, IL; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Jr. and Patricia Barszcz, East Amherst, NY; 5 grandchildren, Michael, Douglas, and Katie Barszcz, Robert and Quinn Stitt; and his brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Olga Barszcz, Mosinee, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents and 9 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson, on Wednesday, April 18. Father Richard Weltin is in charge of services. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 with an Elks Memorial service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Robinson Elks Lodge #1188 will conduct the service. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Thursday at the Camp Butler National Veteran's Cemetery in Springfield for the family. Memorials may be made to the St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church or to the Robinson Elks Lodge Veteran's Committee with envelopes at the funeral home.
Gertrude Elizabeth Knight
Gertrude Elizabeth Knight, 91, Palestine, died September 6, 2000 in Lakewood, Washington, after a lengthy illness.
She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Palestine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy D. Knight, on March 18, 1974. She was also preceded in death by a son, James F. Knight.
Survivors include two sons, Guy Dale Knight, Lakewood, WA, and George Alan Kngiht, Mesa, AZ; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Hughes, Shelby, OH, and Yuma, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Velda Knight, Robinson; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service is 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, at the Palestine Cemetery with Rev. James Delaney III officiating. Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine, is in charge of arrangements. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Pioneer Room of the Village Hall on Main Street in Palestine after the service. Friends and acquaintances may attend.
