Charles L. Winemiller
Born January 3, 1947 - Died January 19, 1997

Charles L. Winemiller, 50, of Macedonia, died at 12:25 a.m. on Sunday, January 19, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Winemiller was born on January 3, 1947, in Hamilton County, a son of Lewis and Lydia (Ewald) Winemiller. He married Carol Allen. He was a welder for CSX Railroad. Mr. Winemiller was a graduate of McLeansboro High School class of 1965. He was a member of American Legion Post 109 in Norris City, a U. S. Army Vietnam veteran, a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Employees #818, a member of the Methodist Church of Macedonia.
The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 1997 at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Keith Neal officiated. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery.
Mr. Winemiller is survived by one son, Clint Winemiller and wife Stacy of McLeansboro; one daughter, Tami Daily and husband David of Macedonia; four brothers, Lyman Winemiller of Evansville, Indiana, Rick Winemiller of Dalghren, Jack Winemiller of McLeansboro and Lewis Winemiller of McLeansboro; two sisters, Lenora Harrison of Nashville, Tennessee, and Lureen Bailey of Athens, Ohio; one grandchild and one step-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Kay Hanson.

Ruth (Miller) Davis
Born December 2, 1919 - Died January 19, 1997

Ruth (Miller) Davis, 77, of Walpole, Illinois, died at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 19, 1997, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, Illinois.
Mrs. Davis was born on December 2, 1919, a daughter of Frank and Sarah (Russell) Miller. She married Waldo "Red" Davis, who preceded her in death in 1986. She was a housewife and a member of New Salem Baptist Church.
A memorial service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 1997, at Harre Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. Cremains will be interred at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 1997, at Hebron Cemetery in Walpole. Rev. John Deen will officiate.
Mrs. Davis is survived by one son, John Davis and wife Judy of Colorado; one daughter Pat Shafer and husband Glen of St. Joseph, Illinois; one granddaughter, Paula Bradley of Louisville, Texas, and one great-granddaughter, Katherine Bradley of Louisville, Texas.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and a daughter.
Memorials may made to the Katherine Bradley Educational Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Bernard D. Morris
Born September 30, 1918 - Died January 20, 1997

Bernard D. Morris, 78, of McLeansboro, died at 3:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
Mr. Morris was born on September 30, 1918, in Hamilton County, a son of John A. and Grace (York) Morris. He married Helen McMahan on October 12, 1940. He was a farmer and an operating engineer in highway construction. Mr. Morris was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post 106, a member of Polk Masonic Lodge, a member of the Carmi VFW, and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rites Mason.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 1997, at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Masonic rites were held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Graveside military rites were performed by American Legion Post 106. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Mr. Morris is survived by his wife Helen; four sons, Bernard Lee Morris and wife Lynn of Springfield, Carl Morris of Knoxville, Tennessee, William Morris and wife Marilyn of Houston, Texas, Thomas Morris and wife Jeanetta of Knoxville, Tennessee; four brothers, Vernon Morris of McLeansboro, Val Morris of Mt. Vernon, and Wilburn "Todd" Morris of St. Francisville; three sisters, Ruth Jamieson of Phoenix, Arizona, Betty Davis of Kingman, Arizona, and Ruby Mayo of Wabasha, Minnesota; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, John David.

Faye Mitchell
Born January 23, 1912 - Died January 20, 1997

Faye Mitchell, 83, of Carmi and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 5:13 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 1997 at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
She was born on January 23, 1912, in McLeansboro, a daughter of the late James Frank and Sarah Lola (Ellis) Stafford. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Wesleyan Circle and Bethany Sunday School class, church choir for 30 years and the Retired Teachers Association. She retired after 43 years of teaching, having taught the fifth grade at Jefferson School. She married Victor Mitchell on February 22, 1941, and he died on December 24, 1944.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 1997 at Kittinger-Fair Chapel. Interment was at Enfield Cemetery. Visitation was at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 1997.
She is survived by two nieces, Glenna Charlene McDaniel of McLeansboro and Janice Prince of Enfield; two sister-in-law, Ruby Abbey Akers of Fairfield and Julia Stafford of McLeansboro; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and three half-sisters.

Ethel Jane Aydt
Born September 3, 1901 - Died January 10, 1997

Ethel Jane Aydt, 95, of Dahlgren died at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 1997 at Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Aydt was born on September 3, 1901, in Hamilton County, a daughter of John and Flora Belle (Snover) Kelley. She married John William Aydt on June 22, 1922, in St. Louis. She was a housewife and worked for several years in a St. Louis, Missouri shoe factory. She was a member of Belle Prairie Missionary Baptist Church.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 1997 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Crouch Cemetery in Belle Prairie.
Mrs. Aydt is survived by two twin sisters, Irene Fulk of Lockport, Illinois, and Lorene Weldin of New Lenox, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Glen Kelley, Frank Kelley, Alvie Kelley and Charles Kelley; two sisters, Nellie Askew and Florence Ryherd; and her twin sister, Flossie Bond.

Gene O. Osburn
Born April 20, 1927 - Died January 20, 1997

Gene O. Osburn, 69, of Springfield, died at 11:36 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 1997, at his farm in Dahlgren.
Mr. Osburn was born on April 20, 1927, in Hamilton County, a son of Miles O. and V. Grayce (Jenkins) Osburn. He married Nonnie B. Karraker in 1951. He was employed by Springfield School District #186 as a counselor and elementary school principal for 32 years, retiring in 1982. Mr. Osburn was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, the Illinois Principal's Association and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. He was also a veteran of World War II and Korea and a member of South Side Christian Church.
The funeral was at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 1997, at Bisch and Sons Funeral Home in Springfield. Revs. Bob Green and Jeff Chitwood officiated. Burial was in Chatham Cemetery. Local arrangements were handled by Gholson Funeral Home.
Mr. Osburn is survived by his wife, Nonnie B. Osburn; one son, Keith D. Osburn of Chatham; one daughter, Karen E. Osburn of Springfield; a nephew, Mark Osburn; two half-brothers, John F. Gibbs of McLeansboro and Coin Osburn of New York, New York; two grandchildren, Kristen and Gina Osburn.
Memorials may be made to South Side Christian Church.

John Richard Mansell
Born February 25, 1915 - Died January 20, 1997

John Richard Mansell, 81, of McLeansboro, died at 8:29 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 1997, at his home.
He was born on February 25, 1915, in Flannigan Township in Hamilton County, a son of Cleveland and Flora (Davis) Mansell. He married the former Georgia Dial on November 7, 1936, and she survives. He was a farmer and member of the Church of Christ.
A private family burial was conducted on the Mansell farm. Hobbes-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton was in charge of the arrangements.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard Mansell of McLeansboro and Uriah Mansell of McLeansboro; one daughter, Jennie Upton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mansell was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Clifton and Darrell Taylor, and one grandson, Darrell Mansell.

Emory H. Armes
Born May 5, 1907 - Died January 22, 1997

Emory H. Armes, 89, of Hightstown, New Jersey, and formerly of McLeansboro, Illinois, died at 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 1997, at Sunlawn Nursing Center in Highstown.
Mr. Armes was born on May 5, 1907, in Hamilton County, a son of John C. and Alma (Parker) Armes. He married Colleen R. Wright on June 7, 1930. He was a retired prison guard for the Illinois Department of Corrections at the Statesville Prison in Joliet. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 1997, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Rev. Mark Lee officiated. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery near Macedonia.
Mr. Armes is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Patterson and husband Charles of Cranbury, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Charles Patterson of Medford Lakes, New Jersey, and Susan Colleen Schreib of Austin, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Christian Cody Schreib, Thomas Colby Schreib, Richard Schrieb, Charles Aaron Patterson and Casandra Patterson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers and three sisters.

Doris Millspaugh
Born February 10, 1910 - Died January 26, 1997

Doris Millspaugh, 86, of Norris City died at 11:11 a.m., January 26, 1997, at White County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Millspaugh had taught school for 40 years.
Born February 10, 1910, in Broughton, Illinois, she was a daughter of Harvey Hershell and Wava Victoria Pennington. She married Wilmer Millspaugh on February 10, 1945, and he survives.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 1997, at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City, Illinois. Rev. Randy Plunkett and Rev. Gary Lemmon officiated. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Survivors include a brother, Gerald Pennington and wife Maggie of Carrollton; two sisters, Mary Henson and husband Kenneth of Norris City, and Isabel Davis and husband James Sr. of Broughton; three nephews, Jerry Pennington and wife Elizabeth of Alton; Eddie Henson and wife Yollie of Norris City and James Davis Jr. and wife Mary Kaye of Broughton; three great-nieces and several cousins.

F. Alma Carey
Born ????? - Died January 27, 1997 (per SSDI, b. 20 Apr 1899)

Flora Alma "Peggy" Carey of McLeansboro died at 9:22 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 1997, at Rosewood Care Center in Swansea, Illinois.
Miss Carey was born in Hamilton County, a daughter of William Lockey and Sophia (Suttle) Carey. She was a graduate of Mazon Township High School at Mazon, Illinois, and also a graduate of the Oregon Normal School in LaGrande, Oregon. She received a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and a master's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana. Miss Carey taught school in Albany, Oregon. She later taught in the Mt. Vernon, Illinois, school district #80 before retirement. She was a member of Mt. Olivet General Baptist Church, Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's sorority while teaching. She was also a member of the Mayflower Descendants, Colonial Dames of the American Revolution and the New England Genealogy Society. Miss Carey was a historian and genealogist and wrote several books on genealogy and family history. She did the first recorded research on the history of education in McLeansboro.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 1997 at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Miss Carey is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister and five brothers.
