Clifford Leroy Carter
68-year-old Fairfield native, Clifford Leroy Carter of Foster burg, Ill., died at 1:44 Wednesday morning, Feb. 13, 2002 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene, two sons, Curtis Carter of Dorsey, Il., and Clifford Lynden carter of Foster burg; a sister, Emma Jane Soward of Stroud, Oklahoma.; two brothers, Enis Ray Carter and Elden Mae Carter of Stroud, Oklahoma., and two grandchildren, Cheryl and Justin Carter.
Funeral services for Clifford Leroy Carter were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Staten Funeral Home in Alton with burial in Richland Cemetery south of Boyleston.
Visitation was from 4-7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at the Staten Funeral Home in Albion and from 1-3 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Feb. 16, at the Richland Christian Church, south of Boyleston, IL.
Memorials may be made to the Emmaus Lutheran Church of Dorsey, Ill.
Loretta Ann Horn
39 year old Loretta Ann Horn of Bradley, Il., formerly of Enfield, died Thursday, Feb. 14th, 2002 at Bradley. She attended Enfield schools from 1969-1979.
Surviving are her father and step-mother, Bill and Jan Horn of Enfield; her mother Eunice Horn of Kankakee; a daughter, Tiffany Horn of Kankakee; a brother, Jim Horn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a step-brother, Jonny Fields of Carmi; her maternal grandmother, Jean Quear of Kankakee; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18th at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield with burial at Enfield Cemetery.
Visitation was from 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18th until the time of service at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield.
Elizabeth J. “Betty” Shelton
81-year-old former Fairfield resident, Elizabeth J. “Betty” Shelton of Flora died at 11:07 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002 at the Gambro Healthcare Center in Effingham.
Her survivors include her husband, Louis Shelton of Flora; two daughters, Roberta Young and Vickie Sachau both of Flora; a sister, Georgia Walker of Texas; a brother, Richard Hargis of Edwardsville, IL, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Elizabeth J. “Betty” Shelton were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home with burial at Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14 at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

77-year-old Carmi resident, Helen Darnell Gwaltney died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002 at Wabash Christian Retirement in Carmi.
Survivors include her husband, J.T. Gwaltney of Carmi; a daughter, Brenda Pyle of Carmi, a son, Larry Gwaltney of Carmi; three grandchildren, Jay and Luke Pyle, and Jonathan Gwaltney; a sister, Ruth Knight of Crossville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Helen Darnell Gwaltney were at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with burial in Burnt Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Kittinger Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.

76-year-old Browns resident, Jean Nelson, died at 12:20 Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002 afternoon at her home.
Survivors include three daughters, Diana Outlaw of Houston, TX., Donna Peter of Danville, CA., and Audrey Christian of Lawrenceville.

63-year-old Byford L. Stewart of Rt. 4 McLeansboro died at 1:10 Sunday morning, Feb. 10th, 2002 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ruth Stewart, his mother, Vauda Stewart, a son, Jason of McLeansboro and an aunt, Rosemary Stewart of McLeansboro.

93-year-old Veda Hawkins of Fairfield died at 1:20 Saturday morning, Feb. 9th, 2002 at Way-Fair Restorium in Fairfield.
Surviving are a son, Robert (Bob) Hawkins of Fairfield; a sister, Laura Williams of Mt. Carmel; a daughter, Charlotte Ann Stahl of Sturgis, MIchigan; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11th at the Johnson Chapel with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was from noon Monday, Feb. 11th until the time of service at the Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Vivian B. "Sis" Belangee
80-year-old Enfield resident, Vivian B. "Sis" Belangee died Sunday morning, Feb. 10, 2002 at the Enfield Healthcare Center.
Her survivors include three sons, Thomas Vaught and Braden Willis, Jr. both of Enfield and Clinton Willis of Mt. Vernon, IN; two daughters, Alice Black and Vicky Russell of Enfield, nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a brother, Clinton Vaught also survives.

88-year-old Enfield resident, Mary Ellen Newman died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002 at the Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro.
Survivors include two daughters, Emma Barton of Norris City and Donna Hale of Bowling Green , Ohio; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; five sisters, Ruby Barger, Betty martin and Etta Lumb, all of Enfield, Mildred Gwaltney of Brownsville, and Dorothy Jumper of Normal.
Services for Mary Ellen Newman were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Enfield General Baptist Church with burial in Enfield Cemetery.

73-year-old McLeansboro resident, George "Slim" Vincent, Jr. died at 12:50 Monday morning, Feb. 11, 2002 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah; four daughters, Wanda Moore of McLeansboro, Geraldine Hutcheson of McLeansboro, Brenda Robertson of Danville, and Ronda Glenn of McLeansboro; a son, Allen Vincent of McLeansboro; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; six sisters, Jean Smith of Glasgow, KY, Martha Asberry of Franklin, KY, Jackie Wells of Cuba, Mo., Lenora Kemplen of Lynn, IN., Brenda Mueller of Cuba, Mo., and Linda Porter of Norris City. One brother-in-law, Calvin E. Lewis of Richmond, IN. also survives.
Graveside services for George "Slim" Vincent were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Digby Hill Cemetery in Dale.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
