Ruth E. (Allen) White
Born January 29, 1931 - Died April 17, 1997
Ruth E. (Allen) White, 66, of Dahlgren, died at 6:40 p.m. on April 17, 1997, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was a housewife.
She was born on January 29, 1931, in Dahlgren, a daughter of Irene Allen. On November 24, 1949, she married Col. Amos K. White, who survives.
The funeral mass was April 21, 1997, at St. John's Catholic Church in Dahlgren with Fr. Alan Ruppert officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery in Dahlgren.
Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro was in charge of arrangements.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. White is survived by three sons, Charles White of Rifle, Colorado, Mark White and wife Trena of McLeansboro, and Stephen White and wife Shirley of Fortville, Indiana; four daughters, Joyce Cross and husband Clyde Lee of Wayne City, Pam Cox and husband Larry of Mt. Vernon, Cathy Wilkerson and husband Zane of Columbus, Indiana, and Paula Terry and husband Toby of McLeansboro; one sister Rietta Spalding of Kimberling City, Missouri; three brothers, Charles Allen and Ray Allen both of Reed Springs, Missouri, and Gene Allen of Alabama; and 17 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and one infant sister Mary Elizabeth.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Dahlgren and a member of Alter Society at St. John's.
Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home in Mrs. White's memory for St. Jude's Hospital.

John L. "Briss" Bowers
Born September 17, 1921 - Died April 18, 1997
John L. "Briss" Bowers, 75 of McLeansboro, died at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 1997. He was a retired oil field pulling unit equipment operator.
He was born on September 17, 1921, in Hamilton County, a son of William and Minnie (Holland) Bowers. He married Claudia B. Bridwell on May 13, 1944, and she survives. He was a member of Smith Church near Dale.
The funeral was at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Rev. Gerald "Andy" May officiated. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Mr. Bowers is also survived by three sons, John R. Bowers and wife Phyllis Sue of McLeansboro, Larry Joe Bowers and wife Judy of Broughton; one daughter, Andrea Rubenacker and fiancee Melvin Tennyson of McLeansboro; three brothers, James Bowers of Evansville, Indiana, Charles "Chick" Bowers of McLeansboro, Joe Franklin Bowers of Macedonia; three sisters, Fay Hook of Halstead, Kansas, Fern Fulks of Turon, Kansas, Anna Cheshier o...(cut off)

Bernice Loretta Edwards
Born July 14, 1938 - Died April 20, 1997
Bernice Loretta Edwards, 58, of McLeansboro, died at 5:18 a.m. on April 20, 1997, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Edwards was founder and president of New You Weight Loss Clinic.
She was born on July 14, 1938, in Mulkeytown, a daughter of Marie Cook. On February 14, 1957, in Sesser, she married Beverly Edwards, who survives.
Services were held at 11:00 on April 23, 1997 at Brayfield Funeral Home in Sesser with the Rev. Joe Wallace officiating. Burial followed in Maple Hill Cemetery, Sesser.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Edwards is survived by three sons, Kevin Edwards of Benton, Blake Edwards of McLeansboro and Craig Edwards of Wilmington, North Carolina; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Harvey and Rick of Christopher.
Mrs. Edwards was a member of the First Baptist Church in McLeansboro.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Cook, and one sister, Ethel Loreen.

Evelyn Hatcher
Born December 27, 1919 - Died March 22, 1997
Evelyn Hatcher, 77, of Denver, Colorado, and formerly of McLeansboro, died on March 22, 1997, after a six-month illness.
She was born on December 27, 1919, in Rochester, Minnesota, a daughter of Beecher and Lena (Nierstheimer) Hatcher. Her parents brought her to McLeansboro as an infant, where she lived until 1942. She attended the local schools graduating in the McLeansboro High School Class of 1938.
Before settling in Denver, she worked in Chicago, Springfield, Milwaukee, Pasadena, California, and several cities in Minnesota. She retired from Conoco Oil in 1985. Her entire life was devoted to church and community service. She enjoyed genealogy and gardening.
Memorial services were held at the Calvary Baptist Church in Denver on Thursday, March 27, 1997. Revs. Mary Hulst and Brad Burgland officiated.
Evelyn is survived by her sister, Lorraine Hatcher of Denver, and several cousins.

Roy R. Savage
Born June 30, 1903 - Died April 16, 1997
Roy R. Savage, 93, of Bellflower, Illinois, and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, at Heritage Manor in Bloomington, where he had been a resident for seven years.
He was born on June 30, 1903, in Hamilton County, the son of Lealvie S. and Nettie Bowen Savage. He married Opal J. Thomas on December 10, 1926, in Carmi. She died on October 28, 1992.
Mr. Savage was a farmer for more than 45 years in the Bellflower area, retiring in 1970. He was a 63-year member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Osman. He served on the Bellflower Township High School board for a number of years and on the board of directors of Foosland Grain. He was a former member of the Bellflower Lions Club.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 1997, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osman. Rev. Dean H. Spooner officiated. Burial was in Bell-flower Township Cemetery. Calvert-Belangee Bruce Funeral Home in Bellflower was in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by two sons, Donald Savage, Saybrook, Illinois, and Leonard Savage, Eureka, Illinois; four sisters, Lizzie Huffaker and Flora Darnell, both of Enfield, Faye Poore and Fern Savage, both of McLeansboro; eight grand-children; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two brothers and two sisters.

Bertha Hill
Born January 9, 1915 - Died April 21, 1997
Bertha Hill, 82, of Carmi, died at 10:22 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 1997, at White County Hospital/Skilled Care Unit. She was a clerk at Kisner's Drug Store for many years.
She was born on January 9, 1915, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Charles Hiram and Mary Frances (Dugan) Allardin. She was married to Dwight Hill on May 31, 1949, and he survives. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carmi.
The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 1997 at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial in the IOOF Cemetery at McLeansboro.
Mrs. Hill is survived by her husband Dwight of Carmi; one sister, Jewell Endicott of Carmi; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Hiebert on August 21, 1996, and Bethel Peters in 1958; and two brothers, Guy Allardin in April 1997 and Hayden Allardin in October 1977.

Logan V. Irvin
Born March 8, 1925 - Died April 27, 1997
Logan V. Irvin, 72, of McLeansboro, died at 6:35 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, 1997, at his home. He was a retired machine operator, having worked at Pfizer Company in East St. Louis for 35 years.
He was born on March 8,1925, in Hamilton County, a son of Willis Riley and Hallie (Braden) Irvin. He married Doris J. Morris on October 7, 1950, and she survives. He was a member of the Church of God in McLeansboro. He also was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post #106 and VFW Post #1671, both of McLeansboro.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 1997, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Revs. Kerry Courtney and David Mays officiated. Burial was in Hickory Hill Cemetery near Broughton, Illinois with graveside rites by American Legion Post #106.
Besides his wife, Mr. Irvin is survived by two sons, John Irvin and wife Joyce of Visalia, California, and Shelton Irvin ans wife Cathy of McLeansboro; three daughters, Vicki Carter and husband Louie of Brighton, Illinois, Carmen Graulein and husband Richard of Lensburg, Illinois, and Shirley Shea and husband Larry of Harrisburg; two sisters, Chloe Little of Keysport, Illinois, and Mary Syzdek of Belleville; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two half-brothers.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Marie Brent Eirick
Born January 24, 1947 - Died April 29, 1997
Marie Brent Eirick, 50, of McLeansboro, died at 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 1997, at her home. She was a retired nurse aide.
She was born on January 24, 1947, in Wayne County near Golden Gate, a daughter of Harold and Ella Mae (Watt) Brent.
The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 1997, at the Hebron Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Walpole. The Rev. Greg Bond officiated. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery. Gholson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Eirick is survived by her father Harold Brent and wife Geniva Brent of Mt. Carmel; mother Ella Mae Watt Morrison of McLeansboro; two sons, Anthony Lee Eirick of Summerville, Georgia; Richard Allen Cameron Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Kimberly Ann Cameron of Summerville; two sisters, Beulah Irvin and husband Donald of Dale; Anna Anderson and husband William of McLeansboro; six grandchildren, Tamara and Ashley Cameron, Allan L. Watt, Michael Farmer, Anthony and Pamelia Eirick; four nephews, one niece, three great-nieces and three great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by one infant son, Harold J. Eirick.
Memorials may be made to the Hebron Cemetery Fund.

Maycel Yoder Gunter
Born August 23, 1918 - Died April 28, 1997
Maycel Yoder Gunter, 78, of McLeansboro, died at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 1997, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She was a retired employee of the former Elder Manufacturing Company and a homemaker.
She was born on August 23, 1918, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Simon and Iva (Vanhorn) Yoder. She married Marion Gunter on August 2, 1943. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in McLeansboro.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 1997, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Mrs. Gunter is survived by one son, Mickey and wife Suzanne E. Aaron Gunter of Moscow, Idaho; three brothers, Ira Yoder and wife Rosa of Tampa, Florida, Kermit Yoder and wife Sarah of Santa Barbara, California, Aubrey Yoder and wife Mary of McLeansboro.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Gilbert Yoder.

Barbara Rose Hamilton
Born December 11, 1931 - Died May 4, 1997
Barbara Rose Hamilton, 65, of McLeansboro, died at 4:40 a.m. on Sunday, May 4, 1997, at her residence. She retired from Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro and was a bookkeeper/partner with her husband in H & H Trenching in McLeansboro after retirement from HMNC.
She was born on December 11, 1931, in White County, a daughter of Thomas W. and Dorothy Marie Land. She married Clarence W. Hamilton on December 21, 1948, in Henderson, Kentucky. She was a member of Brush Harbor General Baptist Church.
The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 1997, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Ken Cook officiated. Burial was in Brush Harbor General Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Hamilton is survived by her mother, Dorothy Valco of McLeansboro; husband, Clarence W. Hamilton of McLeansboro; one daughter, Jeannie Brockett and husband Johnny of McLeansboro; one son, Jeff Hamilton and wife Michelle of McLeansboro; four grandchildren, Andrea Cantrell, Alan Brockett, April Brockett and Alexis Hamilton; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Jonathan and Madelyn Rose Cantrell; and two sisters, Doris Prince and Joyce Ratliff, both of McLeansboro.
She was preceded in death by her father, brother Danny Land, son Clarence Keith Hamilton, granddaughter Kaeli Rose Hamilton.
Memorials my be made to Welborn Hospital's Oncology Unit and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home.
