Nora Rachel Heil

Nora Rachel Heil, 83, of Cobden, Illinois and formerly of McLeansboro, died on Wednesday, June 4, 1997, at the City Care Nursing Home in Cobden, Illinois. She was a homemaker.
She was born on March 16, 1914, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Andrew Jackson Bond and Ada Mearl (Neal) Bond. On August 31, 1931, she married Noel Heil, who died on March 6, 1979. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in McLeansboro, was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Rebekah Lodge #687 of McLeansboro and was a volunteer at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.
The funeral was at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 1997, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Jerry Parmley officiated. Burial was in Springer Cemetery near McLeansboro.
Mrs. Heil is survived by two daughters, Libbye M. Hanks of Overland, Missouri, and Nada M. Lipe and husband James of Richardson, Texas; two sons, N. Clifford Heil and wife Margret of Cobden and Frank J. Heil and wife Kay of Jeffersonville, Indiana; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pearl Haynes of Fairfield.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, grand-daughter, two brothers and one sister.
Marion Lee Daily
Born October 15, 1919 - Died June 5, 1997
Marion Lee Daily, 77, of McLeansboro, died at 6:12 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 1997, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. He was a retired engineer with Granite City Steel Company of Granite City, Illinois.
He was born on October 15, 1919, in Hamilton County, the son of William F. and Lura Claire (Standerfer) Daily. He was a member of the Delafield Baptist Church, American Legion Post #106 and VFW Post #1671. He was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII.
The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 1997 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Robert Sefried and Rev. Gary Davenport officiated. Burial was in Blooming Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Daily is survived by one sister, Lillian McGill of McLeansboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Elizabeth "Bette" Staker Laskey
Born June 14, 1921 - Died June 12, 1997
Elizabeth "Bette" Staker Laskey, 81, of Seminole, Florida, and formerly of McLeansboro, died on April 13, 1997, in Largo, Florida.
She was a daughter of Marshall and Zelia Davis of McLeansboro. Marshall Davis was a prominent businessman in McLeansboro for many years. Zelia Davis was of the well known twins, Zelia and Zella (nee Edington). Her brother William Davis and sisters Miriam Davis are all still living.
She moved to Chicago following graduation from McLeansboro High School. She became a model for Montgomery Ward clothing and subsequently was one of the pioneers in the earliest days of "key punching" (data processing). While living in Chicago, she married William Staker of New York and moved to New York shortly after. In 1942 they had a daughter, Barbara Kay, now of Seminole, Florida. Their son Kenneth Marshall, also of Seminole, Florida, was born in 1945. Kenneth and his wife Marjorie had a daughter, Jennifer (now Mrs. John Russell) and Barbara had a son, Edward Jacquemin III (married to Cindy). There are now two great-granddaughters, Jessica and Jackie.
After moving to Florida, Mrs. Laskey worked as an executive in the data processing department of the Maas Brothers stores until her retirement.
She maintained a close friendship with "Skip" and Lester Hargrave, both formerly of McLeansboro and now of St. Petersburg, Florida. She renewed old acquaintances in McLeansboro during her trips to visit her mother and aunt Zella in Hamilton Memorial Nursing Home before their deaths.
Melvina Jane McKay

Melvina Jane McKay, 92, of Kuttawa, Kentucky, and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 6:05 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at the Lake Clough Nursing Home in Kuttawa. She was a homemaker.
She was born on December 2, 1904, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Thomas and Madesta Ann (Endicott) McKay.
The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 1997, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Rector Cemetery in Broughton, Illinois.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
Dorcas June Little
Born June 14, 1921 - Died June 12, 1997
Dorcas June Little, 75, of McLeansboro, died at 12:50 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 1997, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She was a retired beautician.
She was born on June 14, 1921, in Dale, the daughter of Cecil and Blanche (Griffin) Irvin. She married William A. Little on July 16, 1959, at Macedonia Baptist Church. She was a member of Smith Chapel Baptist Church in Blairsville.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 1997, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro. The Rev. Art Foster and Rev. Eric Ragan officiated.
Mrs. Little is survived by her husband William; three sons, Randy Kim Harrawood and wife Dorys of McLeansboro, John Michael Little of Terre Haute, Indiana; two daughters, Paula Yvonne Webb and husband Paul Dean of McLeansboro, Sandra Kay Ragan and husband Bill of McLeansboro; one sister, Mary Alma York and husband Leroy of Springfield, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Hazel Irvin of McLeansboro; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kimmy Roscoe Harrawood and brothers John Griffin and Cecil Graynson Irvin.
Memorials may be made at the funeral home for Smith Chapel Church.
Albert Kelly

He was born on February 15, 1905, a son of William Franklin and Irene Rose (Miller) Kelly.

Ruby Wheeler Ritcheson

Ruby Wheeler Ritcheson, 72, of McLeansboro, died at 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 1997, at her home. She was a housewife.
She was born on November 27, 1924, a daughter of Lee Wilkerson and Rosie Lillian (Travelstead) Kennedy. She married William Eugene Wheeler, who is now deceased. She later married Raymond Ritcheson Sr., who survives. She was a member of Smith Chapel Baptist Church.
The funeral was on Friday, July 4, 1997, at 11:00 a.m. at Gholson Funeral Home. The Rev. John Ritcheson officiated. Burial was in Kuykendall Cemetery in Carmi.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Ritcheson is survived by one son, Ervin Lee Price and wife Linda of El Paso, Illinois; one daughter, Edith Faye South and husband Warren South and husband Warren South of Mesa, Arizona; four stepsons, Ray Ritcheson Jr. of Milnooka, Illinois, Dan Ritcheson of Janesville, Wisconsin, Thomas Ritcheson of Jacksonville, Florida, Rev. John Ritcheson of McLeansboro; three stepdaughters, Mary Lou Gabriel of Lockport, Illinois, Sharon Burr of Wheaton, Illinois, Carol Bolton of Russellville, Alabama; three sisters, Deliah Patton of Merrillville, Indiana, Beulah Hunt of Springfield, Illinois, Emma Nyc of Joliet, Illinois; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy, two sisters and her parents.
Louis James "Jim" Herzing
Born November 25, 1925 - Died July 5, 1997
Louis James "Jim" Herzing, 71, of Dahlgren, died on Saturday, July 5, 1997 at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon. He was a radio technician for the Illinois State Police.
He was born on November 25, 1925, a son of Louis Jacob and Clara (Rubenacker) Herzing. On July 24, 1948, he married Jean Dickerson, who survives. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He attended D'Vrye University.
The funeral was at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 1997, at St. John's Catholic Church in Dahlgren. Father Alan Ruppert officiated. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery. Altar servers were provided by the Knights of Columbus. Newell Funeral Home of Mt. Vernon was in charge of the arrangements.
Besides his wife, Mr. Herzing is survived by two sons, James Herzing and wife Nancy of Mt. Vernon and Bob Herzing and wife Louis of Scheller; four daughters, Cathy Williams and husband Alan of Waltonville, Susan Allen and husband Steve of Houston, Texas, Stephanie Fitzjerrells of Mt. Vernon and Janet Estes and husband Alan of Mt. Vernon; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Floyd Herzing of Mt. Vernon, Dick Herzing of Mt. Vernon and Bill Herzing of Dahlgren; three sisters, Betty Tanner of Hurst, Texas, Clara Lou Mitchell of McLeansboro and Mary Winemiller of Dahlgren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

John Griffin Irvin

John Griffin Irvin, 84, of McLeansboro, died at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, May 25, 1997, at his residence. He was a retired farmer.
He was born on September 7, 1912 near Broughton, a son of Cecil and Blanch (Griffin) Irvin. He was married to Hazel Virginia Lynch, who survives. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of McLeansboro, Polk Lodge 137 of McLeansboro, a Shriner of Ainad Temple-East St. Louis, past Kiwanis member, past member of the board of directors of Wayne-White Electric, board member Hamilton County Telephone Co-op.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Jerry Parmily officiated. Burial was in Blooming Grove Cemetery in McLeansboro. Masonic rites were performed by Polk Lodge 137 A.F. & A.M. Monday at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Grayson Irvin.
Josephine Miller

Josephine Miller, 88, of Carmi, formerly of McLeansboro, died at 10:50 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 1997, at the Walbash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was a homemaker.
She was born on April 6, 1909, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Edward Martin Jones and Doricus (Biggerstaff) Jones. She married Dwight P. Miller in McLeansboro on September 19, 1929, and he survives. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in McLeansboro since 1938, a member of the Order of Eastern Star in McLeansboro (Past Worthy Matron) and an inactive member of P.E.O. Sisterhood.
The graveside service was at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, in Oddfellows Cemetery in McLeansboro. The Rev. Alan Edick officiated. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro was in charge of the arrangements.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Miller is survived by one daughter, Paula Miller Edick and husband Fred of Little Rock, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Ellen Tosie and husband Dr. Richard J. of St. Louis, Missouri, Mark F. Edick and wife Stephanie of Ocala, Florida; seven great-grandchildren, Richard Tosie, Jr., Kyle Tosie, Ellen Edick, Kari Edick, Lucy Edick, Ruth Edick, and Nathan Edick.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Virginia Jones.
