John Metcalf, 79, of McLeansboro, died at 2:55 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital of McLeansboro.
He was born on May 20, 1918, in Hamilton County, a son of Troy and Laurel M. (Phipps) Metcalf. he was a member of the First General Baptist Church of McLeansboro.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The Rev. Ken Cook officiated. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Mr. Metcalf is survived by one sister, Doris Beard and husband Robert of McLeansboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Memorials may be made to the First General Baptist Church or to Trade Industries.
Darrell W. Smith
Born June 11, 1941 - Died November 7, 1997
Darrell W. Smith, 56, of the Aden Road area of Hamilton County, died at 2:40 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at his residence. He was a farmer and was an Army veteran.
He was born on June 11, 1941, in White County, a son of Wilfred Floyd and Edna Marie (Staley) Smith. On Feb. 24, 1968, he married Dorothy Smith.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Robert White and Rev. Robert Lyons officiated. McLeansboro VFW had a flag presentation ceremony at the graveside. Burial was in Oddfellows Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Mr. Smith is survived by his parents Wildred and Edna Smith of McLeansboro; his wife, Dorothy Smith; one daughter, Diane Smith at home; one son, Dwayne Smith at home; one sister, Janice Winter of Burt Prairie; and one brother Wendall Smith of Mt. Erie.
Bernice G. Wooldridge
Born August 22, 1901 - Died November 10, 1997
Bernice G. Wooldridge, 96, of Marion and formerly of Broughton, died at 8:55 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, 1997, at Marion Memorial Hospital in Marion. She was a homemaker.
She was born on Aug. 22, 1901, in Broughton, a daughter of William A. and Julia (Gholson) Owen. She was married to William A. Wilson, who died in 1921. She later married Eugene T. Wooldridge, who died in 1961.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Elaine Hightower will officiate. Burial will be in the Gholson Cemetery in Broughton.
Mrs. Wooldridge is survived by one son, Eugene Wooldridge and wife Rhoda Mae of Marion; two daughters, Grace Watkins of Los Osos, Calif., and Betty Loper of Taylor, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Pamela Boewster, Gregory Loper, Lisa Crutchfield, Sheri Birdsong and Richard Watkins; and three great-grandchildren.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
William J. Craddock
Born March 10, 1924 - Died November 5, 1997
William J. "Bill" Craddock, 73, of McLeansboro, died at 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5. 1997, at his home. He was a retired oil field driller.
He was born on March 10, 1924, in Galatia, a son of Frank and Goldie L. (Dye) Craddock. He married Dena Rose Mitchell on Dec. 11, 1948 in Morganfield, Ky., and she survives. he was a lifetime member of benton VFW Post #2671, the McLeansboro American Legion Post #106 and the McLeansboro Eagles Lodge.
The funeral was at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, at Gholson Funeral Home of McLeansboro. The Rev. Robert Sefried and Rev. Jason Craddock officiated. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery in McLeansboro with graveside military rites by American Legion Post #106.
Mr. Craddock is survived by his wife Dena Rose Craddock of McLeansboro; three sons, James E. Craddock and wife Sandy of McLeansboro, Mark F. Craddock and wife Cheryl of McLeansboro and Charles W. Craddock and wife Vickie of Norris City; one daughter, Bille Welch and husband Christopher of McLeansboro; two brothers, Eugene Craddock and Ray Craddock, both of McLeansboro; one sister, Bessie Ritchason of McLeansboro; five grandchildren, Jason, James, William Daniel Craddock and Jordan WElch; two great-grandchildren, Whitney and Brandon Craddock.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Glen and Arvie Ewell Graddock and sister Anne Helen Smith.
Ralph B. Hungate
Born May 21, 1913 - Died November 5, 1997
Ralph B. Hungate, 75, of McLeansboro, died on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. He was a retired self-employed barber, owning Hungate's Barber Shop in McLeansboro.
He was born on May 21, 1913, in Hamilton County, a son of Frank Hungate and Maude (Shaffer) Hungate. On Sept. 6, 1935, he married Mary Ellen (Ritchason) Hungate, who survives. He was a member of Brush Harbor General Baptist Church of McLeansboro, Macedonia Lodge #1128 A.F. & A.M. (over 50 years), and Ainad Temple of East St. Louis Shriners and a member of Scottish Rite bodies of Belleville.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Charles Phelps officiated. Burial was in Ten Mile Cemetery in McLeansboro. Masonic rites were performed by Macedonia Lodge A.F & A.M. at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7.
Mr. Hungate is survived by three daughters, Leda Ruth Bishoff and husband Bill of Wilmette, Ill., Doris Jean Parker and husband Cortland of Irvington, Ill., Nina Leigh Hungate Gauer of Evansville, Ind.; five sons, Charles Robert Hungate and wife Bonnie of Vincennes, Ind., Harrel Hungate and wife Wanda of McLeansboro, Paul D. Hungate and wife Gladys of McLeansboro, Carl B. Hungate of McLeansboro, Donald Ralph Hungate of McLeansboro; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; one sister Dorothy Hungate Cafarelli of Albuquerque, N.M., one half-sister, Sue Jane Mezo of Harrisburg; one half-brother, William Frank Hungate of McLeansboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
William H. Davis
Born November 22, 1921 - Died November 6, 1997
William Henry "Bill" Davis, 75, of McLeansboro, died at 3:35 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at his residence. He was a retired driver for Universal Butane and Laborers Union #1197 of McLeansboro.
He was born on Nov. 22, 1921, in Hamilton County, a son of Albert and Daisy (O'Bryan) Davis. On Dec. 23, 1941, he married Hettie Lucille (Taylor), who survives. He was a member of the First Christian Church in McLeansboro, a member of Polk Lodge #137 of McLeansboro and Laborers Union #1197 of McLeansboro. Mr. Davis was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Rob Robbins officiated. Burial was in Oddfellows Cemetery in McLeansboro. Masonic rites were performed by Polk Lodge #137 of McLeansboro at 7 p.m. on Nov. 8.
Besides his wife, Mr. Davis is survived by two daughters, Brenda Tripp and husband John of Christopher, Linda Robbins and husband Jim of Sesser; two brothers, Wilburn Davis of St. Charles, Mo., Dr. Bryan Davis of Conroe, Texas; three sisters, Freda Kone of Mt. Vernon, Alice Deen of Broughton and Sue Cottingham of St. Louis; six grandchildren, Kim Kail, Mark Reichow, Rob Robbins, Scott Robbins, Chantyl Wilson and Cory Robbins; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.
Pearl A. Casey
Born October 5, 1909 - Died November 6, 1997
Pearl A. Casey, 88, of Dahlgren, died at 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon. She was a homemaker.
She was born on Oct. 5, 1909, in Franklin County, a daughter of George W. and Emma Jane (Page) Gapps. On Nov. 23, 1929, she married Calvin E. "Dutch" Casey in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of Belle Rive Baptist Church.
The graveside funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9. The Rev. Richard McCormick officiated. Burial was in Hams Grove Cemetery near Opdyke. Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Casey is survived by one sister, Zella Payne of Dahlgren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, eight brothers and two sisters.
Bonnie O. Munsell
Born October 5, 1909 - Died November 4, 1997
Bonnie O. (Sloan) (Mansell) Munsell, 90, formerly of McLeansboro, died Tuesday Morning, Nov. 4, 1997 at the Toulon Health Care in Toulon, Ill. She was a retired nurse working for many years in the offices of Dr. Tobey and later for Dr. Mitchell before working at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March, 6, 1907, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Mose Franklin Bowers and Eveline (Duty) Bowers. She was married three times, to Fred Sloan, who died on May 9, 1942; Burris Mansell, who died on June 17, 1956; and Earl J. Munsell, who died on Nov. 10, 1992. She was a member of Little Springs Primitive Baptist Church.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Elder John O'Dell officiated. Burial was in Oddfellows Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Mrs. Munsell is survived by one daughter, June Hubbard and husband Robert of Kewanee, Ill.; two sons, Alex Sloan and wife Barbara of Florence, Ala., Rev Fred Sloan and wife Linda of Gainesville, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Sue James and husband Cecil of Eldorado and Norma Burk and husband John of Crossville, Tenn.; two stepsons, John Munsell and wife Velda of Denton, Texas, and Robert Munsell of Hibbing, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Dr. Ned Hubbard and wife Bitha of Kewanee, Jan Gunter and husband Guy of Opelika, Ala., Shannon Halbert and husband Larry of Houston, Texas, Scott Sloan and wife Margaret of Florence, Ala., Alicia Chen and husband Rick of Gainesville, Fla., Denna Hatfield and husband John of Gainesville, Fla., Capt. Mark Sloan and wife Linda stationed with US Air Force in Turkey; nine step-grandchildren, John James and wife Regina of Eldorado, Tom James and wife Pamela of Trenton, Ill., Craig Mansell and wife Donna of Texas, Mark Mansell and wife Dee Ann of Texas, Kevin Burk and wife Kathy of Bloomington, Ind., Kris Burk and wife Anne of Crossville, Tenn., Patrick Burk and wife Lu Ann of Hendersonville, Tenn., Jeff Munsell and wife Tomoko of Japan; nine great-grandchildren, 18 step-great-grandchildren; and one niece, Evelyn Allen of McLeansboro.

Bernadine Flannigan
Born July 26, 1913 - Died November 1, 1997
Bernadine Flannigan, 84, of McLeansboro, died at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She operated the Blairsville General Store for over 30 years and also had operated a beauty shop in Dahlgren for several years.
She was born on July 26, 1913, in Ridgway, a daughter of Frank and Appolonia "Loni" (Rubenacker) Ewald. She married Ruben Medley Flannigan, who died on Aug. 19, 1994.
The graveside funeral was at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, at Cartright Cemetery near McLeansboro followed by a mass service at the St. John's Catholic Church in Piopolis at 11:15 a.m. The Rev. Joseph Lawler officiated. Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro was in charge of the services.
Mrs. Flannigan is survived by one son, Loy Flannigan and wife Sue of McLeansboro; three grandchildren, Teresa Gibbs, Reuben Flannigan and Richard Flannigan; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Gibbs, Chad and Tristan Flannigan; a sister, Sister Rose Anthony Ewald of Dominican Convent of Sparkill, N.Y.; four brothers, Walter Karcher of Wayne City, Clyde Karcher of McLeansboro, Eugene Karcher of Sumner, Harry Karcher of Johnston City.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. Frank and Grand Ewald and C.O. Karcher and Junior Karcher.
Marie E. Kelly
Born September 17, 1928 - Died October 28, 1997
Marie E. Kelly, 69, of Momence, Ill., and formerly of Dahlgren, died at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. She was a retired press operator at Bennett Industries at Peotone.
She was born on Sept. 17, 1928, in Poland. She was married to James Paul Kelley, who died on Jan. 2, 1995.
The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren. The Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Richardson Hill Cemetery in Dahlgren.
Mrs. Kelly is survived by three sons, Ronald Kelly and wife Michelle of Woodstock, Ill., Kevin Kelly of Momence and Thomas Kelly and wife Vicki of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren, Mason, Jeffery, Samantha, Jaclyn and Lauren Kelly.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by parents and one sister, Olga Kelly.
